Raindrip Wireless WeatherSmart Sensor
INTRODUCTION:
The RS 100 Wireless WeatherSmart Sensor works specifically with the RSC 600 WeatherSmart Irrigation Controller.
The Sensor sends weather information to the Controller to optimize your programmed irrigation schedule based on
local current weather conditions.
OVERVIEW:
WeatherSmart Sensor and Controller Interaction:
• When rain is detected, the Controller will temporarily disable watering schedules.
• The Controller receives local outside temperature readings from the Sensor and optimizes the programmed
watering schedule run times.
• When the outside temperature reaches 40º F, the Controller will temporarily disable watering schedules.
INCLUDED WITH SENSOR:
Sensor, Mounting Bracket, and Mounting Screws
INSTALLATION:
The RSC 600 Irrigation Controller should be installed and operational prior to testing Sensor communication with the
Controller.
•
Install batteries in Sensor (for battery type, see specifications section)
o Remove upper housing of Sensor
o Remove battery cap
o Install batteries
o Attach battery cap
o Attach upper housing
•
Identify optimal location to mount Sensor
o Sensor location notes:
ƒ The Sensor should be installed in open areas were it can receive full unobstructed direct rainfall.
ƒ Avoid locations where the Sensor might receive indirect rain water from sources such as roofs,
roof gutters, trees, or irrigation sprinklers.
ƒ The sensor must be positioned within an effective communication range of the Irrigation
Controller.
At the identified mounting location, test the wireless signal between the Sensor and Controller:
ƒ Remove upper housing of Sensor
ƒ Manually tip the rain bucket slowly (allow 2 seconds between tips)
ƒ Verify the Controller received a signal from the Sensor.
• “SENSOR” will appear in the display of the Controller once a signal is received. This
indicates the Sensor mounting location is within an effective communication range.
ƒ Re-attach the upper housing to the Sensor
•
Install mounting bracket at selected location using 2 supplied mounting screws
•
Attach Sensor to the mounting bracket
•
Level Sensor by adjusting the two small bracket clips as needed
•
Reset the accumulated rainfall stored and displayed in the Controller
•
Installation and set-up is now complete

CONTROLLER INSTRUCTIONS:
This section provides specific instructions for WeatherSmart Controllers that utilize a WeaterSmart Sensor. Use the
Controller Installation & Programming guide for Controller installation, setup, programming instructions, and general
operating instructions.
Sensor Status Indicators:
• “SENSOR” is shown in the Controller display when the Sensor is detected by the Controller.
• “LOW BATTERY IN SENSOR” is shown in the Controller display when the batteries are low.
o Replace batteries. (see INSTALLATION section)
• “ERROR CHECK SENSOR” is shown in the Controller display when the Sensor signal is not detected by the
Controller
o Check the Sensor for any obvious abnormalities or obstructions.
o Install fresh batteries and reestablish communication between the Sensor and the Controller. (see
INSTALLATION section)
Rainfall Information:
• The amount of rainfall in inches is shown in the lower left corner of the Controller display
o Today’s Rainfall (resets at midnight each day)
o YTD Rainfall (resets at midnight on December 31)
Temperature Information:
• Outside Temperature is shown at the bottom center of the Controller display
• “LO” is displayed when the temperature is below 10º F
• “HI” is displayed when the temperature is above 150º F
Controller will temporarily disable watering schedules during the following conditions:
• When the outside temperature reaches 40º F or lower:
o “SHUTDOWN LOW TEMPERATURE” will be shown in the lower right corner of the Controller display.
o Controller normal watering operation will resume above 40º F.
• When rain is detected:
o “SHUTDOWN RAIN DETECTED” will be shown in the lower left corner of the Controller display.
o “REMAINING DURATION” of the rain shutdown will be shown in the upper right corner of the
Controller display.
o Press “EDIT SCHEDULE” to increase or decrease remaining duration.
o Controller normal watering operation will resume when remaining duration countdown is complete.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Batteries:
• Two (2) “AA” alkaline (not included)
• Depending on installed environment, batteries should be replaced once a year.
