Introduction
SOHOwareTM 10/100Mbps Autosensing Hub
Congratulations on choosing a SOI'iOwarerM S/B-port 10/100Mhps Autosensing
Huh They are designed for people who need high~speed network performance to
handle bandwidth-intensive applications, such as multimedia, graphic design,
video, or intensive database access, as well as who require the flexibility of mixed
IOOMbps and IDMbps networks. You can upgrade any of your legacy IOBase-T
equipment on an as needed basis and optimize your investment. Most important, it
is the only solution for coexistence of 100M11ps network and broadband Internet
Access by CabldADSL modem with lOBase-T network interface. The l0/100
hubs feature five or eight autosensing 10/100 hub ports. All the ports are fully
autosensing. Simply plug in the network cable and the 10/ 100 hubs will
automatically determine the maximum speed (lOMbps or lOOMbps) of the
connection.
Features
0 Five or eight dual—speed 10/ 100 autosensing ports
0 Plug-n-Play; makes network installation at no—hrrainer
0 Automatic setting of each port to the highest speed. No configuration
changes/service interruptions migrating from lOM‘bps to lOOMbps
Built-in internal switch; mix & match 10M'bps and 100Mbps
0 Store-and forward switching between lOM‘bps and 100Mbps networks;
protects against data-error and enhances effective network traffic
0 Front panel LED indicators; troubleshooting at a glance
Complies with IEEE 802.3 lOBase—T and 802.3u looBase-TX standards
O FCC Class B certified for both office and residential use

Getting Started
Placing Considerations
It is better to place this hub where they will not be subjected to extreme
temperatures, humidity, or excessive electromagnetic interference D0 nut block
the venulation holes on the side.
Installing Your Hub
lnsmllafion couldn‘t be easier. Only two steps and you‘re in business:
1. Plug: Plug the cable of the connected device to the port of the hub
2. Play: Plug one end of the power adapter into the rear panel of the hub and the
other into the wall socket

Connecting Devices to the Hub Ports
This section will show you how to connect a workstation or another hub/switch to
this hub. Before you connect network devices to it, note that:
l Normal; makes a normal mn'sterl-pair connection
I Uplin uplinks to another hub or switch
The following examples will give you a better idea of how to connect a device to
this hub.

A4 Connecting to a Worksatian
Usually loM'bps or lOOMbps workstations are connected to Port 2~8, wlnle other
hubs or switches are connected to Port 1 for uplinkmg, Ifyou connect the
workstation to Port I, remember to set it as the Normal Position.

Application Scenarios
This section gives some examples of how to place the lO/ 100 autosensing hubs so
as to achieve the maximum unlizauon from your networking hardware and for
your future growth.
Scenario I, Connect Cable/ADSL Modem to your LAN " ‘
(Local Area Network)
Method 1. Direclly connect the Cable/ADSL Modem la the uplinkpan (set In the
Uplinkpasitian) ofhub by Cat. 3 or Cat. 5 (177J (Umhielded Twist Pair) cable
Few of the existing Cahle/ADSL Modem have lOOBase-TX network interface to
connect to LAN, if you want to use 100Mbps Fast Ethernet network and
Cnble/ADSL Modem for high-speed Internet access at the same network, 10/100
Hub is the only solution for you. Your registered [P number limits the user number
who can access Internet.
Figure 8. Connect Cable/ADSL Modem to the Upllnk port of 101100 Huh
Method 2. Connect the Cable/ADSL Modem to one afthe PC: on the network
If you only register one IP account and want to share it to other users on the
network, then you must connect the Cahle/ADSL modem to one of the PCs, and
share the D’ by the Internet Sharing tool, no matter sofiware or hardware, for
example, Sygate Internet Sharing sofiwm.

Scenario II. Expansion of the existing 10Mbps Ethernet
Network
Any existing lOMbps Ethernet devices, no matter hubs or adapters, can cooperate
with this 10/100 autosensmg Fast Ethernet huhl Such flexibility lets you optimize
your investment to mix and match everyone‘s needs.

Flour: 1111. Connect any of your exlstlng 10Mbps equipm-nt to the 101100 hub
Scenario III. Future Growth
You can connect up to 5/8 devices, including the PCs, networking peripherals, and
uphnked hub, to the SIS-port 10/100 hub.
More than 5/8 PCs? No problem! When your network needs to grow beyond the
five/eight available connections provided by the hub, you simply purchase another
hub or switch (e.g. SOHOwareT“ SuperFlex 10/100 s-port Hub plus one Switch
port, SOHOware‘“ Plug-n—Switch) and cascade it with the original.
