Waterproofing your Kobo eReaderYour Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2   can be submerged in 2 metres (just over 6.5 feet) of fresh water for up to 60 minutes if you follow these instructions.Your Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2   is IPX8-certified, which means that it has been tested and certified as waterproof in certain conditions.Here are a few things you should do to avoid damaging your eReader with water. Note that your Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 is not dustproof or sandproof.•Dry the USB port before connecting the USB chargerto your eReader.•Avoid exposing your eReader to water movingpowerfully, like waterfalls or waves.•Do not charge your eReader in or near water, or inareas with high humidity.•Your eReader does not oat. Do not submerge itdeeper than 2 metres of water.•Do not submerge your eReader in water for morethan 60 minutes.
Using your Kobo eReader around waterFor the best reading experience, your eReader's screen andyour hands should be dry. If the screen gets wet, just wipe itwith a dry cloth. The screen may not respond as expected ifused while wet or under water.If your eReader gets wet with any of the following, rinse itwith fresh water immediately and dry it before use. This willextend the life of your eReader.•Salt water•Soapy water•Chlorinated water from a swimming poolCharging your Kobo eReaderBefore using your Kobo eReader for the rst time, youshould charge it for at least one hour. A fully charged KoboeReader battery can last up to two months depending onhow frequently you use your eReader. We recommend youcharge your Kobo eReader with the supplied Micro USBcable.If you need to replace your Micro USB cable, you can get anew one at any location where Micro USB cables are sold.Follow these steps to charge your eReader.
1. Turn on your computer.2. Connect your Micro USB cable to your eReader andyour computer.You can continue reading while your eReader charges.You can see the battery's charge in the top-right corner ofthe screen.Battery icons•Out of power•Charging•Partially charged•Fully chargedCharging your Kobo eReader with a wall adapterYou can charge your Kobo eReader with any 5V, 500mAMicro USB adapter.Note: If you're travelling to a country with differentelectrical systems, be sure you have the proper converterbefore you charge your Kobo eReader using a power outlet.
Turning your Kobo eReader on and offTurning your Kobo eReader off or putting it to sleep bothhelp your battery last longer.When you put your eReader to sleep and then wake it up,you go directly back to the last screen you saw. This couldbe a page in a book, the Kobo catalogue, or your own list ofitems.If you turn your eReader off, you’ll go directly to your Homepage when you turn it on again.•To turn your eReader on: Press and hold the powerbutton for three seconds. The power light will blinkand your eReader will turn on.•To put your eReader to sleep: Press the powerbutton quickly.•To wake up your eReader: Press the power buttonquickly.•To turn your eReader off: Press and hold the powerbutton until the Powered off screen appears.
Using the touch screenWhen your eReader is on, you can touch the screen to openbooks, turn pages, select items, and more. Here are a fewgestures you might nd useful.•Tap: Touch the screen lightly to open a book, turn apage, select a menu, and more. This is the gestureyou'll use the most.•Swipe: Use this gesture to scroll through the booksin your Library and turn pages.•Press and hold: Touch the screen and hold yournger in place. You can use this gesture on yourbook covers and book titles to see more options.This gesture also lets you select text while reading.Press and hold a word, and when you let go, youreReader will underline your selection and show acircle at each end of the word. Drag the circles toselect more text.Note: Not all books allow text selection. For example, youcannot select text in PDFs or comic books.Using your Home screenYour Home screen is the rst thing you see when you turnon your eReader after setting it up. From your Home screen,
you can see your recently opened books, access the KoboBookstore, and more.Go to your Home screen by tapping the   Home icon atthe top of the screen. While reading, tap the centre of yourscreen to see the Home icon.Your Home screen is organized with tiles to make thingseasier to nd. Tap a tile to interact with it.Home screen tiles include:•The book you're currently reading.•Books you've recently opened or purchased.•Recommended books we think you'll enjoy.•The  Sync tile to add newly purchased books toyour Library and to update your eReader.Above the tiles, you'll see the Search bar. Use the Searchbar to nd books in your Kobo Library or in the KoboBookstore.At the bottom of your Home screen, you can access yourLibrary, the Kobo Bookstore, and Activity, which includeyour personal reading statistics and awards.
Adjusting screen brightnessYou can adjust the brightness from your Home screen orwhile you're reading. Your eReader can automatically adjustthe screen's brightness depending on the lightingconditions in your area. For instance, if you're reading in adark room, the screen automatically dims or brightens tomaintain your preferred brightness level that you previouslyset.•While you're reading, swipe up or down along theleft edge of the screen.
•From your Home screen, tap the  brightness iconat the top of the screen, then drag the  circle iconunder Brightness to the left or right.
Using the Natural Light featureWith the Natural Light feature, you can adjust the colour of the screen. Colours range from an orange candlelight for nighttime reading, to a white sunlight for daytime. You can also manually adjust the Natural Light feature so that your eReader won't change the screen colour.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the  Brightness icon near the top of thescreen.The Natural Light settings menu will appear.3. Beside Bedtime, tap the  dropdown arrow.4. Select the time that you'd normally go to sleep.5. Adjust the screen's colour :•To manually adjust your Natural Light settings,make sure the   circle icon beside Auto is
towards the left  . Drag the   circle icontowards the   sun icon to make the screenglow white for daytime reading. Drag the circle icon towards the   moon icon to makethe screen glow orange for nighttime reading.Note: When you manually adjust your NaturalLight settings, your eReader will notautomatically adjust the screen colour accordingto the time of day.Connecting to your computerKobo Desktop is a free app for your PC or Mac that lets youshop for eBooks in the Kobo Store and manage books onyour eReader.Kobo Desktop lets you:•Quickly add and delete a large number of books onyour eReader.•Read books you've purchased from Kobo.•Shop for books on your computer.•Sync your eReader.For more information about Kobo Desktop, you can:

Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the   Sync tile.Your eReader will try to connect to Wi Fi. This maytake a moment.3. You'll be prompted to choose a wireless network.Tap the name of the network you want to use. Ifthere's a  Lock icon next to a network, you'll needa password to join that network.
4. If you're prompted for a network password, use thekeyboard to type in the password and then tap Join.You can tap Show Password to see what you'retyping.Checking the Wi Fi status on your Kobo eReaderTo see if you’re connected to the internet, check the Wi Fistatus icon at the top of your screen.Wi Fi icons•Wi Fi is disabled.•You have a moderately good Wi Fi connection.•You have an excellent Wi Fi connection.You may have to sync your eReader to see the Wi Fi statusicon.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the   Sync tile.The Wi Fi status icon will appear at the top of thescreen.
Turning Wi Fi off on your Kobo eReaderYou can turn Wi Fi off to stop your Kobo eReader fromconnecting to the internet. This will extend your eReader'sbattery life, and let you use your eReader on an airplane.Your Wi Fi connection will turn off automatically if it'sinactive for more than ve minutes.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the  More icon at the top of the screen.The Quick Settings panel will appear.3. Tap Wi Fi.4. Tap the   circle icon beside Wi Fi: Enabled.When you see a dialog box that says Wi Fi: Disabled,your eReader will no longer have access to theinternet.

Some books will have the wordDownload beside the book title, or the   Download iconon the book covers, depending on the model of eReader.Tap the cover to download the book to your eReader.
Syncing your Kobo eReader over Wi FiFollow these instructions to read your newly purchasedbook from kobo.com on your Kobo eReader. You'll needaccess to an active Wi Fi connection before you start.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the   Sync tile.•If you are within range of a known network, youreReader automatically joins that network and willbegin syncing.•If you are not within range of a known network, youreReader will begin the Adding a Network process.After you sync your Kobo eReader, your book will be addedto your Kobo eReader’s Home screen and your Library. Tostart reading, just tap on the book cover.Syncing your Kobo eReader with Kobo DesktopYou can also sync your Kobo eReader by connecting it toyour computer with Kobo Desktop. Your computer shouldbe connected to the internet before you sync.To download Kobo Desktop, visit kobosetup.com.
1. Connect your eReader to your computer using aMicro USB cable and tap Connect.2. Open Kobo Desktop on your computer.3. If you're not already signed in to your Kobo account,click the   Prole icon at the top of your screenand sign in.4. Click the   Sync icon.Your eReader will sync and update your Library.5. Click the  Eject button at the top of the screen todisconnect your eReader from your computer.

Forexample, you can create a collection solely forcookbooks.
•Articles from Pocket: Online articles orwebpages you've added using the free Pocketapp on your computer, tablet, or other device.Searching for booksUse the search bar at the top of your Home screen to nd abook already in your Library, or a new book in the KoboBookstore.Search using the book title, author name, or a keyword.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen.3. Tap the  dropdown icon beside Kobo and choosewhere you'd like to search:•Select Kobo to search the Kobo Bookstore (youmust be connected to Wi Fi).•Select My items to search your eReader's library.4. Using the keyboard, type a book title, author name,or keyword.Search results will appear as you type.5. Tap a suggestion to go to that result, or tap Go tosee the full list of results.

When you nish a book, youcan remove it from your device to increase storage space.You can re-download a book from the Kobo Cloud any timeyou have access to Wi Fi.
Downloading books from the Kobo Cloud toyour Kobo eReaderIf your books are stored in the Kobo Cloud, you'll need todownload them to your eReader before you can read them.Make sure your eReader is connected to Wi Fi to downloadbooks from the Kobo Cloud.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap Read.3. Tap Books.Any books that aren't already on your eReader willhave the word Download beside the book title or a Download icon on the book cover.4. Tap the book's cover to download it.The book will start downloading.5. Tap the book's cover or title to open it.If you select several books, your books will be placed in aqueue and downloaded to your eReader one at a time. InList view, the word Pending will appear beside books thatare in the download queue. In Cover view, you'll seeprogress bars on the covers of books you're waiting todownload. Once a book is downloaded to your device, youdon't need to be connected to Wi Fi to read it.
Downloading all your books to your KoboeReader at onceFollow these steps to download your entire Kobo Library toyour eReader.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap Read.3. Tap Books.4. Tap the  More icon in the grey bar.5. Tap Download all.Your books will be placed in a queue anddownloaded to your eReader one at a time. In Listview, the word Pending will appear beside booksthat are in the download queue. In Cover view, you'llsee progress bars on the covers of books you'rewaiting to download.Removing books from your Kobo eReaderAfter you remove a book from your eReader, you can re-download it from the Kobo Cloud any time you have accessto Wi Fi.1. Go to your Home screen.
2. Tap Read.3. Tap Books.4. Tap and hold the cover or title of the book.A menu will appear.5. Tap Remove.A dialog box will appear.6. Select one of these options:•Remove download: Re-download the item fromthe Kobo Cloud later. This option is automaticallyselected.•Remove from My Books: Delete the book fromyour Kobo account and all of your devices.7. Tap Remove.Removing all your books from your KoboeReader at onceYou can remove all of your downloaded books from youreReader to free up storage space. When you remove booksfrom your eReader, your books will still be saved in theKobo Cloud, and you can re-download them later.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap Read.
3. Tap Books.4. Tap the   More icon in the grey bar.5. Tap Manage downloads.6. Beside Downloaded Kobo Books, tap Remove all.7. Tap Remove.All of your Kobo books will be removed from youreReader.

Getting around a bookYou can quickly go to any chapter or page in your book withjust a few taps.Tap the cover or title of your book on your Home screen orLibrary to open it.Tap or swipe the side of the page in your book to turnpages.If you want to jump forward by more than a page or two:1. Tap the centre of the page to bring up the ReadingMenu.2. Tap the   Navigation icon.•To scroll through the book's pages, touch the circle icon in the navigation bar and slide it tothe right to move forward, or to the left to goback.•To move to the next page, tap the   Forwardicon.•To move to the previous page, tap the   Backicon.
•To jump to the next chapter, tap the  JumpForward icon.•To jump to the previous chapter, tap theJump Back icon.•To go to a specic chapter, tap Table of contentsand tap the chapter.•Tap the  Snap Back icon to return to yourprevious position in the book.3. Tap anywhere on the page to close the navigationbar.Changing text and font options on your KoboeReaderYour eReader offers several different sizes of text for mostbooks. You can adjust the text size, fonts, line spacing, andjustication to make reading easier on your eyes. Pleasenote that if the book you’re reading is a PDF le, you can’tchange the size or style of the text.1. While reading, tap the middle of your page to bringup the Reading Menu.2. Tap the Aa Text icon.3. Adjust your font settings:
•Tap the dropdown menu beside Font Face toselect from a list of available fonts.•Drag the  circle icon beside Font Sizes tochange the size of the text.•Drag the   circle icon beside Line Spacing toincrease or decrease the space between the linesof type.•Drag the  circle icon beside Margins to makethe margins bigger or smaller.•Tap your choice of justication.Notes:•When you change the way text looks, your eReaderremembers your preferred size and style, and appliesit to other books you’re reading.Closing booksWhen you're done with a book, you can mark it as Finishedso that the next time you open it, you'll start at thebeginning.Marking a book as Finished won't remove any bookmarks,annotations, or highlights.1. In your Library, nd the book you'd like to close.
2. Press and hold the book's cover.A menu will appear.3. Select Mark as nished.Bookmarking pagesYou can mark interesting passages or pages that you'd liketo return to using bookmarks.•While reading, tap the top-right corner of the page.A bookmark will appear as a dog-ear.Finding a bookmarked pageIf you added a bookmark to a page, you can easily nd itagain using the Reading Menu.1. While reading, tap the centre of the page to bring upthe Reading Menu.2. Tap the   More icon at the bottom of the page.3. Tap Annotations.4. Tap the bookmark you want to see.
Highlighting text on your Kobo eReaderMost books let you highlight text, just like using ahighlighter in a printed book.Note: You cannot highlight text in a PDF.1. While reading, press and hold a word for a fewseconds until an underline appears.2. Lift your nger from the page.You'll see a   circle at each end of the word.3. Drag the rst circle to the start of the text you wantto select, and the second circle to the end.4. Tap Highlight.Seeing highlights on your Kobo eReaderYou can see the list of highlights you made in the book whileyou're reading.1. Tap the centre of the page.The Reading Menu will appear.2. Tap the   More icon at the bottom of the page.3. Tap Annotations.
A list of bookmarks, highlights, and notes that youmade in your book will appear.4. Tap on a highlight to see the entire highlightedpassage.Removing highlights on your Kobo eReaderYou can remove highlights you made in your book whileyou're reading.1. Tap the centre of the page.The Reading Menu will appear.2. Tap the   More icon at the bottom of the page.3. Tap Annotations.4. Tap and hold the highlight you'd like to remove.A menu will appear.5. Tap Remove highlight.The highlight will be removed from your book.
Adding notes to your book on your KoboeReaderYou can add notes to your books while you're reading.1. While reading, press and hold a word for a fewseconds, until an underline appears.2. Lift your nger from the page.You'll see a  circle at each end of the word.3. Drag the rst circle to the start of the text you wantto select, and the second circle to the end.4. Tap Add Note.5. Use the keyboard to enter your notes, and tap Save.Seeing your note while reading on your KoboeReaderAfter you've made a note, you can see it any time whileyou're reading.1. Tap the centre of the page.The Reading Menu will appear.2. Tap the  More icon at the bottom of the page.
3. Tap Annotations.A list of bookmarks, highlights, and notes that youmade in your book will appear.4. Tap the text beside Note on the right to view yourentire note.Removing notes from your books on your KoboeReaderIf you no longer need a note, you can delete it from yourbook while you're reading.1. Tap the centre of the page.The Reading Menu will appear.2. Tap the   More icon at the bottom of the page.3. Tap Annotations.A list of bookmarks, highlights, and notes that youmade in the book will appear.4. Tap and hold the note that you'd like to delete.A menu will appear.5. Tap Remove annotation.A dialog window will appear.6. Tap Continue to delete your note.
Using the dictionary on your Kobo eReaderIf you see an unfamiliar word while you're reading, you canuse your eReader's built-in dictionary to view its denition.1. While reading, press and hold the word you'd like tolook up.An underline will appear beneath the word.2. Lift your nger from the screen.The word's denition will appear.The dictionary may not work in some books such as PDFs,books you borrowed from a public library, or free books youfound on the internet.Tap the screen to dismiss the dictionary.Adding or removing dictionariesYou can remove the dictionaries that are installed on youreReader to save storage space, or add dictionaries in otherlanguages.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap the  More icon at the top of the screen.The Quick Settings panel will appear.
3. Tap Settings.4. Tap Language and dictionaries.5. Under Dictionary, tap Edit.6. Add or remove a dictionary:•To add a dictionary, tap the  plus icon besidethe dictionary you want to add.•To remove a dictionary, tap the   check markicon beside the dictionary you'd like to remove.7. Tap Save.Translating a wordYour Kobo eReader has a translation dictionary that you canuse while reading Kobo eBooks.The dictionary may not work in some books such as PDFs,books you borrowed from a public library, or free books youfound on the internet.1. In your book, press and hold the word you'd like totranslate.2. Lift your nger from the screen.A denition of the word will appear in a dialog box.
3. Tap the   dropdown icon at the bottom-rightcorner of the dialog box.A list of languages will appear in the dropdownmenu.4. Select the language that you'd like to translate to.

Select a subject that interests you.•Related Reads: Books similar to those you'rereading or looking up in the Kobo Store.•Wishlist: View the list of books that you've addedto your Wishlist. You can add books to yourWishlist while browsing in the Kobo Bookstore.Buying a book on your Kobo eReaderYou can buy eBooks right on your eReader. All you'll need isa Wi Fi connection and a valid credit card.Once you've completed the checkout process, your bookwill appear on the Home screen.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap Browse.3. Tap Categories.4. Tap the category you're interested in.5. Tap a sub-category to begin browsing eBooks.6. Find an eBook you'd like to buy.
7. Tap Buy next to the book you want to purchase.8. If you've shopped with Kobo before and saved yourbilling information, go to step 11.9. Use the keyboard to enter your billing address andcredit card information.Note: We need your billing address to calculatetaxes for your order based on your location.10. Tap Continue.11. Review your order.12. Adding a book to your Wishlist while shoppingon your eReaderYou can add book previews to your Wishlist that you'reinterested in buying later.1. While shopping for a book, tap on the book coverthat you're interested in.2. Tap + Wishlist.Note: Some books do not have previews.Viewing your WishlistAfter you've added book previews to your Wishlist, you cansee the Wishlist items on your eReader.1. Go to your Home screen.2. Tap Browse.3. Tap Wishlist.You’ll see a list of previews that you added to your Wishlist.Tap on the book and follow the onscreen instructions toread it. When you reach the end of the preview, you'll havean option to purchase the book.

Youcan also try charging your eReader if it's unresponsive.Signing out of your eReader, and then signing back in canalso x some common problems. When you sign back in,your eReader will start the set-up process again. You'll needto enter the email address associated with your Koboaccount and your password to set up your eReader over anactive Wi Fi connection.
If signing out and back in doesn't solve your problem, tryperforming a factory reset on your eReader instead.Turning your eReader offIf your eReader is unresponsive or not working like youexpect, try turning it off and then back on again.1. Press and hold the power button until you see thePowered off screen.Note: If you see the Sleeping screen, turn youreReader back on and try turning your eReader offagain.2. Press and hold the power button until your eReaderturns on.If your eReader is frozen and you cannot turn it off, trycharging your eReader.Charging your eReaderCharging your eReader may restart it if you can't turn youreReader on and off.1. Once you’ve signed out, you’ll need to set up your eReader.After you’ve set up your eReader and signed in, tap Sync toadd your books back into your Library.Performing a factory resetYou can perform a factory reset to restore your eReader toits original settings. After a factory reset, you’ll have to setup and sync your eReader again.If you perform a factory reset on your eReader, you'll:•Remove all books from your eReader. Any books youpurchased from Kobo can be re-downloaded fromthe Kobo Cloud after a factory reset.•Lose any bookmarks and annotations you've made inyour books since you last synced your eReader.•Sign out of your account on your eReader.•Reset all of your settings and preferences.•Return your eReader to its original settings.1. If possible, back up any books or documents that youadded to your eReader using Adobe Digital Editions,or that you manually added using your computer.You do not need to back up any books you boughtfrom Kobo. Any books you purchased from Kobo can
be re-downloaded from the Kobo Cloud after afactory reset.2. Go to your Home screen.3. Tap the   More icon at the top of the screen.The Quick Settings panel will appear.4. Tap Settings.5. Tap Device information.6. Tap Factory reset under Advanced.7. Tap Reset Now.Performing a manual factory resetIf a factory reset didn't solve your problem, you can try amanual factory reset to restore your eReader to its originalsettings. After a manual factory reset, you'll need to set upand sync your eReader again. Before you start, charge youreReader for at least one hour.1. Connect your eReader to a power source by doingone of the following:•Connect the included USB power cord to yourcomputer rst, and then your eReader.
•Plug the wall charger (not included) to a poweroutlet, and then connect your eReader to the wallcharger.2. Press and hold the power button until the powerlight on the top-right corner of your eReader turnsoff.3. Release the power button.4. Press and hold the power button on your eReaderfor 30 seconds.5. Wait for the Restore screen to appear.6. Release the power button.Your eReader screen will turn black and begin therestoring process. After the restoring processnishes, follow the onscreen instructions to set upyour eReader. You'll need access to an active Wi Fior internet connection to complete setup. You canalso use the Kobo Desktop app to set up youreReader using your computer.
