Bringing Blu-ray to a Wider Audience
As Onkyo’s most affordable Blu-ray player, the BD-SP308 makes an ideal playback partner for our popular entry-level home cinema
systems. Now everyone can enjoy the wide-screen thrills of stunning high-def video, whether in native 1080p resolution from a Blu-ray
Disc or upscaled from a DVD. On the audio side, the BD-SP308 can decode the spectacular studio quality of DTS-HD Master Audio™
and Dolby®TrueHD, the industry’s leading lossless surround-sound formats. All audio and video content can be output via a single
convenient HDMI®jack connected to your compatible A/V receiver. Other connectivity options include a rear-side Ethernet port for
BD-Live compatibility, and a front-side USB port for connecting a flash memory device. The BD-SP308 is compatible with the AVCHD
format, which helps deliver smoother and more realistic home movies. All this precision and playability is packed into a slender chassis,

High-Definition Surround Sound from Dolby®TrueHD and
DTS-HD Master Audio™Essential
The BD-SP308’s onboard decoders bring you the lossless, studio-
master quality of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential
for Blu-ray Disc. The player outputs these formats in pure bitstream
form via HDMI 1.3a, meaning nothing is lost from the original
recording. If you don’t have an HDMI-compatible receiver, you can still
enjoy playback of standard Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel content
via the onboard coaxial digital output.
BD-Live Delivers a More Interactive Experience
The BD-SP308’s BD-Live capabilities let you connect directly to the
internet and access a variety of up-to-date content, such as movie
previews, games, and live peer-to-peer interactions. The BD-Live
specification also includes BonusView™features, such as picture-in-
picture. This function lets you view a small video in the corner of the
screen while the main feature plays in the background.
Full High-Definition 1080p Video and Compatibility with
AVCHD and DivX®HD
Blu-ray Disc delivers the most vivid and detailed video images ever
seen in home cinema. A disc played back on the BD-SP308 can be
output in full high-definition 1080p at 24 frames per second—the
native frame rate for movies. Meanwhile, the BD-SP308 offers
compatibility with the increasingly popular AVCHD and DivX HD
formats, which employ high-compression video codecs. Now you can
enjoy big-screen playback of high-definition video clips recorded on a
compatible camcorder and stored on a DVD±R/RW.
1080p Upscaling of All DVD Sources
With the BD-SP308, standard DVD sources at various resolutions—
576p, 720p, or 1080i—can be upscaled to 1080p for playback on a
compatible high-definition display. Played back on a wide-screen display,
your DVDs will look more detailed and cinematic than ever.
