Users Manual
® Personal Computer Supplementary Instructions CF-72 Series with Wireless LAN This Supplementary Instructions manual explains how to get started with a wireless LAN and point out cases where the operation of the computer will differ from that in the Operating Instructions and/or Reference Manual. This model has a wireless LAN. Wireless LAN Antenna NOTE Wireless LAN communications are done via an antenna. When making a connection via a wireless LAN, raise the antenna as shown in the right figure. Otherwise, you should keep the antenna retracted. When setting Antenna Mode (Receive/Transit) in [Aironet Client Utility (ACU)] - [Profile Manager], select [Diversity (Both)] or [Left Antenna Only]. Information to the User This product and your Health This product, like other radio devices, emits radio frequency electromagnetic energy. The level of energy emitted by this product however is far much less than the electromagnetic energy emitted by wireless devices like for example mobile phones. Because this product operates within the guidelines found in radio frequency safety standards and recommendations, we believe this product is safe for use by consumers. This equipment should be installed and operated with minimum distance 20cm between the radiator and your body (excluding extremities: hands, wrists, and feet) and must not be co-located or operated with any antenna or transmitter. First-time Operation “OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (page 9)” Replace the step 6 for the following. “OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (page 10)” 6 Turn your computer on Slide the power switch and hold it for approximately one second until the power indicator turns on before releasing it. When [Press F2 to enter SETUP] is displayed, press F2 , then run the Setup Utility. Replace the step 8 for the following. 8 Setup Windows Moving the cursor ( ) or clicking buttons can be performed with the touch pad. Windows 2000 Select [Advanced] menu, then set [Wireless LAN] to [Disable]. Press F10 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes], then press Enter . “OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (page 11)” At the [Welcome to the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard], select [Next]. After reading the agreement, select [I accept this agreement] or [I don’t accept this agreement], then select [Next]. CAUTION NOTE Do not press any key or move the touch pad until [Windows 2000 Professional Setup] is displayed. If [I don’t accept this agreement] is selected, the Windows setup will be aborted. 3 Windows XP Select settings for your region, then select [Next]. Enter your name and organization and then select [Next]. Enter your computer name and administrator password and then select [Next]. NOTE This manual explains the procedure for default settings. The procedure may differ according to the settings. CAUTION Remember this password! If the password is forgotten, Windows 2000 cannot be operated. 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 Enter the correct date, time and the time zone and select [Next]. You can also complete these settings at a later time. At the [Networking Settings], select [Typical settings], then select [Next]. At the [Workgroup or Computer Domain], select [No, this computer is not on a network, or is on a network without a domain], then select [Next]. The computer will restart. At the [Welcome to the Network Identification Wizard], select [Next]. At the [Users of This Computer], select [Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer], then select [Next]. Select [Finish]. Enter your administrator password and select [OK]. Set the Wireless LAN Driver CD-ROM Cisco Aironet350series Mini PCI in the CD-ROM drive. Create “c:\util\drivers\aironet” folder. Select [Start] - [Programs] - [Accessories] - [Command Prompt] and input the following. xcopy D:\*.* c:\util\drivers\aironet /s Enter (“D” is the CD-ROM drive letter. You can change the letter to suit your preference.) Remove the CD-ROM and restart the computer. When the message [Press F2 to enter SETUP] is displayed, press F2 and then run the Setup Utility. Select [Advanced] menu and set [Wireless LAN] to [Enable]. Press F10 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes] and press Enter . Enter your administrator password and select [OK]. Select [Next] at [Found New Hardware Wizard]. Select “Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)]”, then select [Next] Select [Specify a location], then select [Next] Input C:\util\drivers\aironet\Win2000” in [Copy manufacturer’s files from:] and select [OK]. Select [Next]. Select [Finish]. In [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] - [Network and Dial-up Connections] - [Local Area Connection], make the necessary settings. The settings will vary for different network environments depending on the network system being used. For more details, ask your system administrator or the person in charge of the network. Install the Aironet Client Utility (ACU). The Aironet Client Utility (ACU) is used to configure your client adaptor or use in a wireless enterprise and perform user-level diagnostics on your client adaptor. In [Start] - [Run], input “C:\util\drivers\aironet\acu\ Setup.exe” and select [OK]. Follow the on-screen instructions. CAUTION Do not press any key or move the touch pad until [Windows XP Professional Setup] is displayed. At the [Welcome to the Windows XP Setup Wizard], select [Next]. After reading the agreement, select [I accept this agreement] or [I don’t accept this agreement], then select [Next]. Select [Advanced] menu and set [Wireless LAN] to [Enable]. Press F10 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes] and press Enter . Select User. At [Found New Hardware Wizard], select [Install from a list or specific location (advanced)]. and select [Next]. Select [Search for the best driver in these locations] and add the check mark for [Include this location in the search], then input [C:\util\drivers\aironet\WinXP]. Select [Next]. Select [Finish]. 20 21 Select whether to configure the wireless LAN adaptor by using Windows XP or Aironet Client Utility (ACU). See Table 3-2 ( Page 49 of “350WirelessLANAdapters Install&ConfigGuide-Windows.pdf” in “C:\util\driver\aironet\documentation”) for the detail of the comparison of Windows XP and ACU features.1 In [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Network and Internet Connections] - [Network Connections], right-click [Wireless Network Connection] and select [Properties]. 2 Select [Wireless Networks] and remove the check mark for [Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings]. 3 Select [General] and make necessary change. The settings will vary for different network environments depending on the network system being used. For more details, ask your system administrator or the person in charge of the network. 4 Select [Close]. 5 Install the Aironet Client Utility (ACU). In [Start]-[Run], input [C:\util\drivers\aironet\acu\ Setup.exe] and select [OK]. Follow the on-screen instructions. Reinstalling Software 1 In [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Network and Internet Connections] - [Network Connections], right-click [Wireless Network Connection] and select [Properties]. 2 Select [Wireless Networks] and add the check mark for [Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings]. 3 Make other necessary changes. The settings will vary for different network environments depending on the network system being used. For more details, ask your system administrator or the person in charge of the network. 4 Select [OK]. NOTE Common Notes for Windows 2000/Windows XP The installation and Configuration Guide is in “C:\util\drivers\aironet\documentation\”. See the document for detail about setting. “OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (page 24)” Replace the step 13-15 for the following. 13 Press F9 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes] and press Enter . (The Setup Utility settings will return to their default values. Even the security settings with the exception of the password(s) will return to their default values.) Select [Advanced] menu, then set [Wireless LAN] to [Disable]. Change the other settings where necessary. Setup Utility “OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (page 25)” 14 Press F10 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes] and press Enter . 15 Perform the setup procedure for Windows by following the instructions on the screen. page 2 “REFERENCE MANUAL (page 51)” Replace the “Advanced” menu for the following.
