Use this mode when you wish to use the unit solely as a iacsimile machine or when you are going out. The MANUAL RECEIVE mode lets you answer calls by lilting the handset. Use this mode when you are in and wish to answer voice and fax calls. These modes can be selected by pressing the AUTO ANSWER button. AUTO RECEIVE and MANUAL RECEIVE have two different receive settings. l MANUAL RECEIVE MODE TAD/FAX on o The TAD/FAX ON indicator is off. TEL mode (pre-selected) Allows you to answer all calls manually. When the unit rings, you must answer all calls by picking up the handsel. 0 When a fax call is received, you can start tax reception by pressing the button. - If you answer a tax call using an extension telephone connected to the same line. you can start fax reception remotely by pressing Automatic voice and fax recognition TEL/FAX When a fax call is detected. the unit will automatically mode answer the line and start reception. While documents are in memory, the unit will: — display an error message and the following message alternately; Display: FAX IN MEMORY — alert you with a slow beep (Receive alert). 24 ANS/FAX mode (use built in answering system and receive voice and fax calls automatically) When you turn on the AUTO HECElVE rnode (ore-selected settlng is ANS/FAX), the unit will work as a facsimile machine and/oranswerlng device. if a tax call is detected, the unit will automatically switch to receive taxes. if a voice call is detected, the answering system will begin recording, then the caller can leave a voice message. 0 You can use a pre-recorded greeting message or record your own greeting message. Setup of voice message and document reception The total recording time (including the greeting messages) is about 16 minutes. If the messages are recorded in a noisy environment the recording time may be shortened up to 11 minutes. To record incoming voice messages and recive fax documents, follow the steps below. 1 Make sure that the AUTO RECEIVE mode is set to ANS/FAX. 2 To turn on the AUTO RECEIVE mode, press AUTO ANSWER until the TAD/FAX ON lndlcator light goes on, o The display shows the lollowing message. Ringer Equivalence Number (REN): This REN is useful in determining the quantity oi devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of those devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most but not all areas, the sum oi the REN’s of all devices connected to one line should not exceed five (5.0), To be certain oi the number ol devices you may connect to your line, as determined by the REN, you should contact your local telephone company to determine the maximum REN for your calling area. In the event that terminal equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company should notify the customer, if possible, that service may be stopped. However, where prior notice is impractical, the company may temporarily cease service providing that they: a) Promptly notify the customer. b) Give the customer an opportunity to correct the problem with their equipment, c) inform the customer of the right to bring a complaint to the Federal Communication Commission pursuant to procedures set out in FCC Rules and Regulations Subpart E of Part 68. The Telephone Company may make changes in its communications facilities, equipment operations. or procedures where such action is reasonably required in the operation of its business and is not inconsistent with the rules and regulations in FCC Part 68. If such changes can be reasonably expected to render any customerterminal equipment incompatible with telephone company communications Iacilities, or require modification or 26 alteration of such terminal equipment, or otherwise materially aflect its use or performance, the customer shall be given adequate notice in writing, to allow the customer an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted servrce. CAUTION: Any changes or modilications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could veld the user’s authority to operate this device. When programming emergency numbers and/or making test calls to emergency numbers: 1, Remain on the line and briefly explain to the dispatcher the reason for the call before hanging up. 2. Perform such activities in the off-peak hours; such as early morning or late evenings.
