SL-CT710 Portable CD player Operating Instructions Dear Customer Thank you for purchasing this product. Before connecting, operating or adjusting this product, please read these instructions completely. Please keep this manual for future reference. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions. (The information in Italics applies only to areas other than Europe, Australia and N.Z.) No play. No sound or there is a lot of noise. ≥The HOLD function is on (➪page 4). ≥The batteries may have run empty (➪page 5). (If play is extremely short even after fully recharging the batteries, the batteries may have exceeded their life. Rechargeable batteries can be recharged approximately 300 times.) ≥The disc isn’t correctly set. ≥The disc is scratched or dirty. (Tracks skipped.) ≥There is moisture on the lens. Wait for about an hour and then try again. ≥The lens is dirty: clean it with a blower (recommended product: SZZP1038C).If the lens gets marked with fingerprints, gently wipe them off with a cotton swab. ≥The unit may not read MP3 correctly if it is shaken while it is reading the files. ≥Play of a multi-session disc may not be possible if there is a blank data segment between sessions. ≥If there is large JPEG data etc. within a MP3 file, sound may become muted and play may not possible. ≥If you try playing a CD that contains CD-ROM format data and normal audio data (CD-DA), output from one of the above may become silent, and play may not be possible. Cannot change the Digital Re-master mode. ≥The mode cannot be changed when selecting a track while stopped. Cannot specify the AB segment. ≥You may not be able to specify segment A or B at the end of disc. Digital Re-master does not work. ≥Depending on the type of MP3 disc recording, the effect may not appear. Cannot skip albums. ≥You cannot skip between the first and last albums during play. Cannot hear the remote control’s operation tone. ≥The operation tone may be off (➪page 6). The remote control does not work properly. ≥Use only the included remote control to operate this unit. The unit beeps rapidly. ≥The operation is not possible. You cannot adjust the volume, sound quality or anti-skip system if you have connected the unit to other equipment. Adjust them on the other equipment. Cannot recharge. ≥You aren’t using the special rechargeable batteries. ≥You must insert two batteries before you can recharge them. ≥The unit must be off before you can recharge. ≥Ensure the plugs are inserted firmly. ≥Wipe the plugs clean with a clean cloth. ≥Noise may occur when playing MP3 if recording quality is poor. ≥The elapsed playing time disappears and sound is interrupted if bumps continue repeatedly. ≥There is no sound from the earphones if you have connected the unit to other equipment. The AC adaptor becomes warm during recharging. ≥This is normal. The batteries are taking a long time to recharge. ≥The batteries may take a maximum of 6 hours to recharge under some conditions. Play time is short after recharging. ≥This may occur after the first time you recharge the batteries or haven’t used them for a long time. Play time should be restored after a few recharges. ≥The batteries can go flat if you leave the AC adaptor connected after recharging is complete. The battery indicator fails to appear or is incorrect. ≥The indicator does not appear when the AC adaptor is connected. ≥The indicator does not appear correctly under some conditions. The unit stops working. ≥Disconnect then reconnect all power sources (batteries and AC adaptor). Play doesn’t resume from the last point stopped. ≥This doesn’t work if you change discs. ≥This doesn’t work during random play. ≥It may not work correctly under some conditions. Play doesn’t start from the first track. ≥Random play modes may be on (➪page 6). ≥Play resumes from the last point stopped. Cannot search through tracks. ≥You cannot search through MP3 files. 1 Displays Caution HOLD ≥The HOLD function is on (➪page 4). NODISC ≥You haven’t inserted a disc or it isn’t inserted correctly. ≥You have inserted a disc this unit cannot play. OPEN ≥The disc lid is open. CHARGE ≥The batteries are recharging. Recharging is complete when this disappears. F ≥The program already contains 20 tracks. N ≥Reading MP3 files. ––– ≥This indicates an error. You cannot adjust the volume, sound quality, or anti-skip system if you have connected the unit to other equipment. Adjust them on the other equipment. ≥Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight or heat, such as from heating appliances, as these can damage the unit. ≥Discontinue use if you experience discomfort with the earphones or any other parts that directly contact your skin. Continued use may cause rashes or other allergic reactions. ∫Batteries ≥Do not peel off the covering on batteries and do not use if the covering has been peeled off. ≥Align the poles + and - correctly when inserting the batteries. ≥Do not mix different types of batteries or old and new batteries. ≥Remove the batteries if you do not intend to use the unit for a long time. ≥Do not throw into fire, short-circuit, disassemble, or subject to excessive heat. ≥Do not attempt to recharge dry cell batteries. ≥When carrying batteries in a pocket or bag, ensure no metal objects such as necklaces are placed together with them. Contact with metal may cause short-circuiting which can cause a fire. For safety, carry the rechargeable batteries in the battery carrying case. Maintenance ∫Listening ≥Do not play your headphones or earphones at a high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous extended play. ≥If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use. ≥Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. ≥You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations. ≥Even if your headphones or earphones are the open-air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, don’t turn up the volume so high that you can’t hear what’s around you. If the surfaces are dirty wipe with a soft, dry cloth. ≥Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit. ∫CDs ≥Do not use irregularly shaped CDs. ≥Do not use non-specification discs. ≥Do not use CDs printed with label printers available on the market. ≥Do not use CDs with labels and stickers that are coming off or with adhesive exuding from under labels and stickers. Set to HOLD so the unit doesn’t power on accidentally or play is interrupted. ≥ The unit and remote control each have independent HOLD switches. Note on CD-R and CD-RW This unit can play CD-R and CD-RW recorded with CD-DA or MP3. Use an audio recording disc for CD-DA and finalize§ it when you finish recording. The unit may not be able to play some discs due to the condition of the recording. §A process performed after recording that enables CD-R/CD-RW players to play audio CD-R and CD-RW. Resume function Play begins from the last point stopped. Replacing the disc cancels the function. Auto off function If the unit is left in stop mode for approximately 10 minutes, the unit turns itself off automatically. Recommended replacement rechargeable batteries: HHF-AZ01/HHF-1P (Nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries) Key illumination When HOLD is released, the unit’s buttons light in different ways to indicate the operation. (Approximately 3 to 4 hours) ≥ Before playing starts the battery indicator may flash although the batteries are not drained. It appears correctly once you start play. ≥ The AC adaptor differs according to the area. ≥ You can recharge the batteries before they are fully discharged. ≥ Press the - end and lift out to remove. ≥ Fit the battery lid so it is secure and flush with the battery compartment if it comes loose, otherwise it can scratch your discs. ∫While the unit is off Release HOLD on the main unit (➪ below) and press [VOL, +, BATT CHECK]. The number of buttons on the main unit that light indicates the charge. The unit is in the standby condition when the AC adaptor is connected. The primary circuit is always “live” as long as the AC adaptor is connected to an electrical outlet. How to Use Playback Pause Remote control 1 Main unit Not available. Press. Open the lid and insert a CD. ∫Press again to restart play. Search Remote control Main unit Press and hold during play. Move and hold during play. You can also specify point B again by pressing [$MEMO/%DISP] ∫To delete the entire program ∫Press [1/∫]. ≥ You cannot select “RND” and “A`B” while playing MP3. 4 Anti-Skip System Press [1/∫] to start play. This system reduces the skipping caused by vibration to a minimum. You can change the anti-skip memory time for CD-DA to improve sound quality. While stopped, each time you press and hold [$MEMO/%DISP] Changing the sound quality Each time you press [EQ], while displayed Anti-skip enhanced mode, 180-second anti-skip memory Sound enhanced mode, 45-second anti-skip memory EQ ≥ You cannot change the memory time for MP3. It is a maximum of 400 seconds for MP3 recorded at 128 kbps.
