Labtec Wireless Optical Desktop ® Getting Started Guide Important Ergonomic Information Long periods of repetitive motions using an improperly set-up workspace, incorrect body position, and poor work habits may be associated with physical discomfort and injury to nerves, tendons, and muscles. For more information, please read the Comfort Guidelines located on the Labtec® Software CD. 5 Turn on the computer 1 Turn off the computer 2 Remove the old keyboard 3 Connect the keyboard and mouse receiver cables and mouse 6 Establish communication between the receiver and keyboard and mouse Press the connect button on the receiver, then press the reset button on the mouse. Next, press the connect button on the receiver again, and press the reset button on the keyboard. Note: you only have 10 seconds from the time you press the receivers button to press the mouse or keyboard reset buttons. Mouse cable is green and has a mouse icon. Keyboard cable is purple and has a keyboard icon. Install the software 1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the software (double click on the “SETUP” icon if installation does not start automatically). 8 Troubleshooting If your keyboard or mouse does not work, try the following: Remove the old mouse and keyboard drivers. Refer to step 2. Check cable connections. The receiver’s keyboard cable plugs into the PS/2 keyboard port on the back of the computer. The receiver’s mouse cable plugs into the PS/2 mouse port. Refer to step 3. English keyboard and the mouse Refer to the battery diagram inside the battery compartment. Note where the positive and negative ends of the batteries are to be inserted. Caution! If you have previously installed other keyboard or mouse drivers on your computer, please remove them first! (Use Windows® Add/Remove Programs in the Windows® Control Panel.) Do not proceed with installation until you have removed these old drivers. They may interfere with the proper operation of your new keyboard and mouse. 4 Install the batteries in the Check battery installation. Refer to the battery diagram inside the battery compartments. Refer to step 4. Battery life is 2-6 months, depending on usage. Establish communications. Keep the distance between the receiver and the keyboard and mouse within 1 meter (1.5 meters max). Some objects may affect the operating distance or completely block the signal. Metallic surfaces will shorten transmission distances. Refer to step 6. English Introduction to the Labtec® Wireless Desktop Low Battery Lights The Labtec® Wireless Desktop is loaded full of features. A wireless 3-button wheel mouse and a wireless 110 key multimedia keyboard connect to your computer with a single receiver using RF (Radio Frequency) technology. This custom designed receiver can accept signals up to 1.5 meters away. We have included all the batteries you need to get started. Battery life will depend greatly on the amount of usage but you can expect in excess of 2-6 months. If the light in the front of the mouse or the top left of the keyboard does not go on when you move the mouse or press a key, the voltage of the battery is low. Please replace your batteries. Expected battery life is 2 to 6 months depending on usage. Refer to the Battery Warning document located on the CD for more information on battery safety. Maintenance of your Wireless Desktop Labtec® Wireless Mouse Utility Program The utility program uses your normal “Mouse Control Panel”. This addition adds two sets of tabs to the menus (“Wheel” and Buttons”). For additional help with all “Mouse Control Panel” items use the help buttons located in the menus. Scrolling Functions These controls enable and disable smooth scrolling and the number of lines to scroll at a time. See the Details button for more information. • You may clean the surface of the Mouse and Keyboard with a soft damp cloth. • Do not use any harsh or abrasive cleaners • Before using any chemical cleaners, please test the results on the bottom of the device. 3rd Button Functionality These controls support the functions of the middle wheel button. The available controls are outlined here. See the Help button for more details. • Universal Scroll – Allows you to change the scrolling style and speeds of the mouse wheel. • Zooming – Magnify a section of your screen for easier viewing of small text and graphics. • Auto Scroll – Program the screen to scroll by the direction of mouse movement. • Vertical Wheel Cooperate Functions – This provides 3 types of additional functions to the scroll wheel including; zoom, shift lock, and switch from vertical to horizontal scrolling. • Other Functions – Among these additional functions are “Backspace”, “F1”, and “Delete” plus activation of other special functions of Windows and Explorer.
