Ribbon Forming Adhesive

have excellent stripability, especially

compared to ribbonizing methods

using tape. Unlike tape methods, the

paste does not “gum-up” the stripping

Optical Power Meters

Optical power meters may be used to measure optical power in premises, telco, or

broadband ﬁber optic networks. When used with an LED or laser light source, an

OPM can also measure the attenuation (loss) of multimode or single-mode cables.

OPM 1 - Measures Optical Power in dBm

With only two controls – Power and Wavelength – the OPM 1 is our simplest to use

optical power meter. Optical power in dBm and the calibration wavelength setting

are displayed on an easy-to-read LCD display.

OPM 4 - Adds Wave ID and Set Reference

The OPM 4 offers automatic wavelength identiﬁcation and switching when used

with Wave ID light sources. The OPM 4 stores optical references for each calibrated

wavelength. An easy-to-read Dual Wavelength LCD display with Backlight shows

measured power [dBm or µW] or insertion loss [dB], calibrated wavelengths, tone

signal [Hz], wavelength ID, and the battery charge status.

Handheld OTDRs

The Noyes M200 from AFL Telecommunications offers unmatched OTDR capabili-

ties in a handheld package weighing less than 1 kg (2 lb). Multimode, Single-mode,

and ‘Quad’ wavelength models are offered. With short dead-zone and intermediate

range speciﬁcations, the M200 is ideal for Tier 2 testing of premises (building and

campus) networks or certiﬁcation and troubleshooting of FTTX PON networks. And

its bright, transﬂective display makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor opera-

The M200 is based on a new hardware/software platform that supports automatic

MLP 5-2 - Multimode Test Kit w/ Wave ID, Set Reference

and Data Storage

The MLP 5-2 test kit raises ﬁeld testing to new standards by combining our popular

OPM 5-2D optical power meter, and the OLS 1-Dual LED light source in a rugged

carrying case. Used during installations, the MLP 5-2 performs insertion loss mea-

surements on multimode ﬁber at 850 and 1300 nm, as well as measurements on

single-mode ﬁber at 1300 nm.

The OPM 5-2D stores 500 loss readings for each wavelength. In addition, the OPM

5-2D will re-measure any speciﬁc memory location without erasing or modifying

other loss readings. With the supplied PC software, saved test results can be trans-

ferred to a PC for storage, analysis, and printing.

MLP 1 - Multimode Test Kit

The MLP 1 test kits are inexpensive solutions for testing multimode and single-mode

The SLP 4-6D test kit combines an OPM 4-4D optical power meter and an OLS

2-Dual LASER light source and is ideally suited for testing single-mode ﬁber optic

networks. Used during installations, the SLP 4-6D performs insertion loss measure-

ments on single-mode ﬁber at 1310 and 1550 nm.

The OPM 4-4D optical power meter stores reference values at each wavelength for

The HiLite and VFI 2 are compact, but powerful, visible red laser sources designed to

troubleshoot faults on ﬁber optic cables. Light generated by these units will escape

from sharp bends and breaks in jacketed or bare ﬁbers, as well as poorly mated

connectors. They can identify faults in ﬁber optic jumper cables, distribution frames,

patch panels, and splice trays. The HiLite and VFI 2 are an excellent complement to

an OTDR because they can locate faults inside the OTDR’s dead-zone. Other appli-

cations include end-to-end continuity checks, identifying connectors in patch panels

and ﬁbers during splicing operations. The universal connector interface provides fast

Noyes Optical Fiber Identiﬁers are rugged, handheld, and easy-to-use ﬁber optic test

instruments designed to detect optical signals transmitted through a single-mode

ﬁber without disrupting trafﬁc. It is often necessary to isolate a speciﬁc ﬁber during

installation, maintenance, rerouting, or restoration. By simply clamping an Optical

Fiber Identiﬁer onto a gently bent ﬁber, the unit will indicate if there is [No Signal],

[Tone], or [Trafﬁc] and identify signal direction.

The OFI 200 model and OFI 400 model Identiﬁers are equipped with a unique two-

position head design that can be conﬁgured to work with 250 µm, 900 µm, ribbon,

or jacketed ﬁber in seconds, without tools or adjustments. When testing coated

ﬁbers, the slim design of the OFI 200 and OFI 400 models allows easier access on a

splice tray where the amount of work space is limited. The clamping trigger is ergo-

nomically designed to ﬁt the natural motion of the operator’s hand. A high impact

molded plastic case makes the OFI models suitable for use outside plant or in the

central ofﬁce.

The OFI 400 model is the next generation of Noyes Optical Fiber Identiﬁers. It has

all the features of the OFI 200 model plus easy-to-read LCD display with Backlight,

multiple [TONE] signal detection (270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz, or 2 kHz), power saving

feature, and [Set Reference] feature. The OFI 400 model also measures and displays

ﬁber core power or relative power on an LCD display. Both models are battery

operated with the battery indication feature and perform thousands of tests before

battery replacement is necessary.

The OFI-FTTx is a rugged, hand-held optical ﬁber identiﬁer designed to identify the

presence or absence of an active Optical Network Terminal (ONT) on FTTx F2 ﬁbers

at the Fiber Distribution Hub (FDH). During a test the F2 ﬁber does not have to be

removed from service. Thus the OFI-FTTx can verify whether a splitter pigtail at the

FDH is connected to an active circuit before it is disconnected for fault location

or re-use. The OFI-FTTx can help verify FTTx network records and recover splitter

pigtails and F2 ﬁbers that are connected at the FDH but, in fact, are available for

new customers.

When applied to a splitter pigtail at the FDH, the OFI FTTx will report either that

the ONT is ‘Active’ or ‘Not Detected’. Time to complete each test is typically one

second. The OFI-FTTx is compatible with 2 or 3 mm jumper cable containing stan-

dard single-mode ﬁber, such as SMF-28e ™, or 2 mm jumper cable containing bend

insensitive ﬁber (BIF) with a 15 mm bend radius speciﬁcation, such as AFL BendLite

Fiber Storage Units are used to conveniently and safely store an extra length of

cable along the support strand for later use. Furnished as pairs (kit contains two

ﬁber storage units and two sets of hanger brackets), these FSU’s feature all alumi-

num, baked acrylic enamel ﬁnish or dielectric poypropylene with UV inhibitor. All

basic hardware for attachment to the support strand is provided. Strand mount sup-

port brackets meet Telcordia® speciﬁcation and are REA accepted. Galvanized strand

clamping devices accommodate 1/4" to 7/16" strand and meet ASTM speciﬁcations

A153 and B695.

Fiber Outside Plant

The Future Access™ Fiber Distribution Hub (FDH) is designed to provide a local

convergence point in the Outside Plant environment, housing optical splitters that

link feeder cables from the CO to distribution cables serving customer premises. Its

compact size and modular-based platform aid in installation efﬁciency, while keep-

ing initial deployment costs down. This modular approach allows a service provider

to incrementally grow the FDH as their take rate increases. Distribution modules are

available in 72-port conﬁgurations, providing the option of incrementally populating

the FDH at the onset of deployment. This results in immediate cost savings to the

service provider since distribution and splitter modules can be installed as paying

customers take the offered services.

The ruggedly constructed enclosure features a unique, patent-pending, dual entry

door system, providing unobstructed front and side access to the inside of the

enclosure without additional movement. A Telcordia GR-3125 compliant design and

powder coated 1/8” Aluminum construction guarantee durability and reliability,

even in the harshest environmental conditions.

Intuitive ﬁber management is a key element of the Future Access™ FDH. The intui-

tive nature of the routing scheme minimizes training requirements, and allows for

the initial deployment (and any unforeseen repositioning of previously deployed

ﬁbers) to be executed with the utmost efﬁciency.

Each Future Access™ FDH features a self-locking internal swinging “L” frame,

which houses distribution and splitter modules, and provides management of all

jumper cordage installed into the FDH. in conjunction with the dual-door enclosure.

This provides unobstructed rear access for future maintenance requirements.

Central to the functionality of the Future Access™ FDH is the splitter module. This

splitter module is universal to all Future Access™ Fiber Distribution Hubs, resulting

in shorter lead times and less inventory for the provider to manage. They feature

AFL’s Bend Insensitive ﬁber, minimizing the chance of signal loss due to high trafﬁc/

densely packed patch panel routing installations. A self-locking latch securely holds

the module into the FDH, and increases efﬁciency with a tool-less installation.

FAST™ Connectors feature a pre-stubbed factory-polished ferrule that couples to

the ﬁber being terminated. Precision mechanical alignment insures low loss with a

proprietary gel. A factory-installed wedge clip (included with each connector) holds

the clamping mechanism open while the ﬁber is inserted. Once the ﬁber is in place,

the wedge clip is removed and discarded. No special assembly tools required!

FAST™ CONNECTOR TOOL KIT

The FAST™ Connector Tool Kit provides all the necessary installation tools required

for ﬁber preparation of 250µm or 900µm ﬁbers applied to AFL’s new pre-polished

FAST® connectors. Included in the kit is the new Universal multimode/single-mode

cleaver (CT-30A), AFL’s premier cleaver with a 16 position blade and built-in ﬁber

scrap collector. The tool kit effectively contains all the industry standard termina-

tion tools and still permits an adequate storage area for extra FAST connectors for

on-site convenience.

PREMISE FIBER CABLE

AFL’s “Fiber-In-A-Box” solution offers contractors lightweight, easy-to-use cable

packaging with “out of the box” disbursement of ﬁber cable. No reel supports or

pay-off’s are required. Simply set the box down in a convenient place, unlock the

built-in braking mechanism and begin pulling. Adjust the braking mechanism to

apply the amount of pulling tension required. Stack and conﬁgure boxes together

to disburse cable from several reels at the same time. Available in 1000, 2000 and

3000 foot lengths, this unique cable package solution will save contractors valuable

time and cost.
