DESIGNER SERIES

Architects and engineers have been practicing

the art of zonal cavity lighting for decades.

Holophane has simplified that process with the

concept of area lighting. There's never before

been a series of products which offer such a

complete palette of lighting choices to address

area lighting like the Designer Series does.

An HB

is any large structure characterized by

high ceilings and open spaces... but unlike the

industry's understanding of "big-box" buildings,

spaces are more than shopping outlets.

well as retail centers.

Prismatic Holophane Glass

Endural® prismatic glass, a hallmark of

Holophane lighting, allows precise control of the

quality, quantity and direction of the light that

comes through the glass. Blondel flutes evenly

spread light across the entire optic enabling the

glass to appear wholly luminous. This design

feature creates a high-efficiency luminaire that is

low-glare to the viewer. Prism design is another

critical element in optical design. Certain prisms

act as reflectors, or mirrors, sending rays of light

back in the direction they came. Other prisms

are refractors, which bend the light, sending it

out in a prescribed direction. Scientific

placement of these prisms allows Holophane

luminaires to assign exact percentages of uplight

and downlight. Ingenious use of these prisms,

coupled with technology boasting dozens of

patents, makes the Designer Series collection

comfortable to look at and to see by.

The Designer Series is offered in four types of area lighting: type10, type30, type50, and type90.

Certain applications demand indirect light, which produces no glare or shadows.

Others call for maximum amounts of downlight for precision work. Still others fall somewhere in-between.

Area lights are precision engineered and categorized into types to take the guesswork out of designing a lighting plan.

Maximum Down ...

If illuminating a specific task is the most critical design criteria, a

type10 may be the best solution. It provides maximum levels of

illumination to a particular area. Light is not “wasted” on areas

of less importance.

or Maximum Up ...

Certain spaces demand no glare and no shadows. These spaces

require maximum light to bounce off the ceiling. A type90 might

be used in an airport concourse, an indoor tennis court or other

sports arena, or in an open spaced office setting where computer

glare is an issue.

If the ceiling is vaulted or has beautiful crown moldings, then

type90 optics are also a great choice. A type90 provides diffuse

luminance and creates an airy, open feeling.

What's Your Type?

There's more to lighting a space than

simply providing enough footcandles.

There is a science to these applications,

but there is also art. Not only must the

efficiency of a lighting plan be

considered, but the psychology of its

effects must be thought out as well.

Different types of area lights help to

create different impressions;

simultaneously accomplishing scientific

and aesthetic goals.

Somewhere In-Between ...

When direct light on the work plane is important, but aesthetics

of the space can’t be sacrificed, a type30 area light is the natural

choice. Designed for retail, education and office areas, the type30

maximizes useful light in the design providing an inviting yet

comfortable space.

A type50 area light balances the need for a lot of light in room

and floor cavities, with the desire to diffuse some light by

bouncing it off the ceiling. Sending more light up softens the

overall lighting effect and increases efficiency because fewer

fixtures are needed. HBox spaces that would benefit from a

type50 include retail settings, offices, libraries, and

manufacturing assembly areas.

Illuminaire®|Compact

The compact Illuminaire Series can be used in spaces with ceiling heights as

low as 7'6". Designed as a type50, the Illuminaire optics perfectly balance

light both upwards and downwards. Accent a retail store by placing the

compact Illuminaire optic over the check-out counter or mount it on the wall

of a high school cafeteria. Either way, the Illuminaire fixture is bound to gain

attention. The compact Illuminaire optic has successfully illuminated retail

stores, high school stairways and cafeterias, college classrooms, grocery stores,

The 02454 luminaire from Holophane provides

the ideal lighting design element for

applications requiring an industrial, retro

warehouse, or open loft look. This product has

been used in industrial and retail applications

since 1937.

The original 02454 has been the ultimate in

low brightness, energy efficient lighting. A

combination of stainless steel rods, a cast

aluminum husk and ageless prismatic glass

create a luminaire that transcends the years.

The 02454 product line offers two covers and

three color options to contribute to the style

and function of any lighting environment. An

optional copper cover brings out the classic

metal’s beauty to add elegance to the

retro-industrial design.

PGRL

The PGRL series is the original Prismatic Glass

Reflector Luminaire. This product’s heritage

can be traced to the beginning of innovative

lighting solutions. The glittering glass reflector

is supported by steel rods attached to a slotted

socket husk. This design creates a timeless

image unequaled by cheap imitations.

The larger unit is available with two glass

reflector choices depending upon desired

dimensions and light distributions. The smaller

optics are available in four shapes and sizes.

This fixture can also be ordered with an

aluminum or copper cover over the prismatic

glass reflector.

Both the aluminum and copper covers

accentuate the modern industrial look with

the metal’s timeless appeal. The rich copper

color emphasizes brass or copper detail

elements in the decor.

Each version is available painted black, white,

copper or unfinished.

Quick install box: Ballast housing hinges

Integral swivel plate: Provides 15° motion in a

60° plane for mounting on sloped ceilings of

Quick install wiring cover: Pre-drilled for DN20NPT

Die cast aluminum housing: Corrosion resistant white

polyester powder paint fixture, UL listed as a recessed

non-type IC marked spacing for use in 25°C ambients, (see

page 9 for required minimum spacing), energy efficient

copper wound ballast with thermal overload protector.

Grid ceiling mounting rails: Positions housing and

optics between tee bar runners.

Integral swivel plate: Provides a 15° motion in a 360°

plane for sloped ceilings of 15° or less, fast connection

to, and support of, stem and optical assembly.

Canopy: Provides finished appearance at junction of

ceiling tile and stem.

Stem connection: White pipe of various lengths

support optics at specified mounting height.

Optional quick disconnect: Listed per UL-1059,

Terminal Blocks and UL-98, Enclosed and Dead Front

Switches, permitting luminaire to be disconnected while

under load; branch circuit wiring can be electrically installed

and tested before luminaire is in place.

Remote ballast: Heavy duty steel housing, with white

polyester paint, contains two wiring chambers, knock-

outs and integral mounting feet.

High efficiency electrical components: Low noise,

potted, copper wound core and coil assembly, capacitor,

starter board, and emergency relay designed for remote

mounting from 15m (50’) to 140m (455’) feet from the

luminaire.

The CrystalGlo luminaire offers the latest look

in 2x2 HID fixtures for commercial, industrial,

institutional, retail, and academic applications.

The protruding glass element provides an

attractive sparkle making the space pleasant

to be in. The borosilicate glass refractor

uniformly distributes light as it exits the

luminaire providing unequaled visual comfort.

Some of the light is directed to the ceiling to

reduce the luminaire-to-ceiling light contrast.

CrystalGlo is offered in either a recessed or

surface mount configuration for application

into a grid or hard ceiling.

Uniquely designed prismatic glass refractors

allow the luminaire to sparkle when illuminated.

The Electra®optic is pointed at the bottom

whereas the Delphic®optic is rounded; both

providing a smooth appearance in the ceiling.

The Mirrolume luminaire is a 2x2 recessed or

surface mounted luminaire with a flat lens for

commercial, retail, industrial, school or

institutional applications. The lens is available

in either glass or plastic. A specular Miro® 4

reflector provides up to 20% more light

output than the conventional flat lensed

fixture.

The Mirrolume luminaire is offered in either a

recessed or surface mount configuration for

application into a grid or hard ceiling. Several

different photometric distributions are also

available to efficiently match the luminaire to

the application requirements.

The Holophane potted ballast provides

excellent thermal dissipation and sound

absorption, for long life and quite operation.
