8.3.1 T3000-1052 IS Battery Pack
The T3000-1052 standard IS Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) battery pack provides a nominal
7.5V DC for the T3000 radios. Battery pack charging options include the T3001 trickle
charger, the T3002 fast charger and the T3004 dual rapid charger.
For specification details of the T3000-1052 battery pack, refer to Section 1.2.
Maintenance
The T3000 IS battery pack is made with high quality matched cells and battery life can
be maximised by proper maintenance procedures. The lifetime of correctly maintained
NiCd batteries is typically between 12 and 18 months (400 to 600 cycles).
Avoid overcharging. Do not recharge a pack that has had little or no use since its last
charge. Capacity reduction will occur if the battery pack is repeatedly recharged
before being fully discharged. If this pattern continues on a regular basis, the life of
the battery pack will be reduced.
Note:
‘Full discharge’ is discharge to 6V. The ‘battery low’ indicator illuminates just
above 6V, and at 6V the radio switches off.
Avoid temperature extremes. The battery will charge and perform best at 15°C to
25°C.
Give the battery regular exercise. Assuming light daily use and daily charging, dis-
charge the pack to 6V once per week. Do this either by using the T3000 until the bat-
tery is exhausted and the radio turns itself off, or by using the T3002 fast charger. A
conditioning cycle is also recommended once per month.
Storage: do not store batteries connected to the radio, and fully charge batteries
before storage.
Wipe the battery contacts clean regularly. To ensure low electrical contact resistance
when charging, wipe the contacts with a damp cloth (use water to moisten) approxi-
mately every 50 charges.

Restoring A Reduced Capacity Battery Pack
A battery pack exhibiting reduced capacity may often be restored by repeated charging
and discharging to 6V. This may require 4 or more charge/discharge cycles using the
T3002 fast charger or a commercial battery analyser.
Disposal Of Used NiCd Batteries
NiCd batteries contain a small amount of the metal cadmium, which can
produce potentially toxic waste if it is not disposed of correctly. When no
longer in use, ensure that NiCd batteries are properly disposed of. Do not
burn or break the battery.

8.3.2 T3000-2150 IS Speaker-Microphone
The T3000-2150 speaker-microphone provides remote operation for all T3000 IS hand-
portable radios. The speaker-microphone accessory connector clips onto the top of the
radio.
Fitting & Removal
Refer to 7.5.
Operation
To Transmit
Hold the speaker-microphone about
15cm from the mouth.
Press the PTT key and speak clearly, in
a normal voice. The transmit indicator
on the radio illuminates each time the
PTT is pressed.
Release the PTT key when talking has
finished and the transmit indicator
turns off.
To Receive
In receive mode, the microphone acts as a speaker. Adjust the volume using the
Volume Adjustment ( , ) keys on the radio.
Note:
The earphone should be between 8 and 32.

8.3.3 T3000-4402 Selcall & DTMF Options PCB
The T3000-4402 Selcall and DTMF options PCB is a plug-in module that can used in
T3020 (Selcall and DTMF option) and T3040 (DTMF only) model IS radios.
The Selcall option allows selective individual or group calls within a fleet of radios, on
channels that have Selcall programmed. Selcall parameters and features are setup and
enabled during programming. Both Sigtec and International group formats are sup-
ported by the Selcall option PCB.
The DTMF option allows users to send a DTMF tone sequence, allowing access to
remote devices or PSTN. DTMF mode options are setup during programming.
Refer to Section 7.8 for fitting and servicing details.
