CME Symposium

Large gaps between evidence-based care and actual
clinical practice exist in pulmonary medicine and they
carry a signicant health burden. There have been sev-
eral recent advances in the treatment of patients with
various pulmonary conditions. Given the specialized
nature of these diseases, it is dicult for the commu-
nity physician in clinical practice to maintain up-to-date
knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of
these conditions.
This educational program is designed for pulmonolo-
gists and other healthcare providers involved in the
care of patients with pulmonary disease. There will be
didactic lectures, two hands-on breakout sessions
and case discussions. We are honored to welcome
Nichole T. Tanner, MD, MSCR, Associate Professor
of Medicine and Co-Director of the Lung Cancer
Screening Program at the Medical University of
South Carolina, to join the Northwestern faculty in
compelling and interactive discussions.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
After attending this educational activity,
participants should be able to:
1) Explain and demonstrate advanced bronchial
hygiene modalities for hyperination and airway
clearance in patients with advanced lung disease.
2) Describe the clinical, radiographic, and pathologic
dierences in patients with interstitial pneumonia
with autoimmune features.
3) Describe the diagnosis and new treatment
modalities for patients with lung cancer.
4) Review the complexity of guideline driven therapy
for Group B patients with chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease.
5) Compare the dierent modalities of treatment in
patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary
hypertension.
6) Explain the role of noninvasive ventilation in the
treatment of patients with chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease.
7) Describe the use of extracorporeal membrane
oxygenation in the treatment of critically ill patients.
8) List important radiographic ndings in the diagnosis
of pulmonary diseases.
9) Explain the role of lung transplantation in the
treatment of interstitial lung disease.
