Overview Faculty

Miami Valves 2014 showcases the latest in transcatheter

valve replacement and is the natural progression of

the University of Miami’s Masters in Repair of Structural

Heart Disease (MIRS) Conference which has a long

history of excellence. Miami Valves 2014 will update

medical professionals on the latest systems, techniques

and practices to ensure safe and effective transcatheter

valve replacement.

GAP ANALYSIS

Gaps in the diagnosis and treatment of structural heart disease

will be reduced to improve patient outcomes by addressing

the gaps with interventional and invasive cardiologists.

• Appraise new and upcoming technologies in the

management of valvular heart disease to determine their

benefit for patients

• Evaluate the relative advantages and disadvantages of

different strategies in complex cases involving valvular disease

• Demonstrate how to start a Transcatheter Aortic Valve

Replacement (TAVR) program

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program is designed for:

• Interventional and invasive cardiologists, general

cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, vascular surgeons,

interventional radiologists

• Physicians, nurses, technologists and healthcare professionals

with an interest in cardiovascular disease, structural heart

disease therapies, vascular medicine and thoracic surgery

OBJECTIVES

• Present indications, techniques, outcomes, and

complications for transcatheter valve intervention in patients

with native valve lesions

• Compare FDA approved technologies for TAVR and the

scientific data supporting their use

• Examine best practice techniques for high certainty valve

implantation

• Analyze data and techniques for treatment of bioprosthetic

valve dysfunction

• Evaluate the rationale, challenges, and necessity of the

heart team approach to valvular heart disease, and the

functionality of the team within a center of excellence

• Evoke the changing landscape of percutaneous and

surgical techniques of valve repair and replacement

• Evaluate the barriers to care in patients with valvular heart

disease with specific attention to current gaps in the timely

delivery of percutaneous and surgical interventions

• Recognize the different diagnostic tools and combinations

required to accurately diagnose specific structural heart

diseases and plan transcatheter therapy

• Discuss rationale and technique of alternative access

approach for aortic stenosis

• Discuss investigational valves in the near horizon including

their therapeutic advantages and limitations

• Describe the advantages and pitfalls of comprehensive

diagnostic techniques for patients with valvular heart disease

such as cardiac computed tomography, three-dimensional

echocardiography, and complex invasive hemodynamic

catheterization

• Discuss transcatheter treatment options for mitral

valve disease

• Explain the clinical data supporting mitral valve leaflet clip

approximation for the treatment of mitral regurgitation

• Demonstrate and present best practice techniques for mitral

valve clip approximation

• Examine alternative investigational devices for the

transcatheter treatment of mitral regurgitation

• Present alternatives with transcatheter aortic and pulomonic

valve technologies for the treatment of mitral disease

• Present progress in transcatheter mitral valve replacement

• Present the techniques and efficacy of transcatheter

treatment of mitral prosthetic valve paravalvular leaks

• Demonstrate how septal ablation can improve mitral

regurgitation in hypertrophic cardiology

discounted rate of US $169/night + 13% tax/day for a one bedroom

all investigators to submit abstracts of original contribution to be

considered for Poster Presentations.

DEADLINE

Early submission will result in early notification of status. To facilitate

travel planning by International attendees, abstract status will be

notified within 72 hours of submission.

ABSTRACT POLICIES

1. Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the author(s)

to present if accepted, and the presenter must be one of the co-

authors listed.

2. Structure the content into: Background, Methods, Results and

Conclusion sections.

3. No abbreviations should be used in the title; if used in the body of

the abstract, abbreviations should appear in parenthesis after the full

word the first time.

4. If the author(s) has/have any relationship(s) with a commercial entity

or discusses off-label or investigational use, a disclosure statement

delineating the nature of the relationship should be displayed at the

beginning of the presentation.

5. Length: 500 words or fewer.

6. Posters need to fit in a 4’ (height) x 6’ (width) format; poster display

boards will be available for mounting posters.
