IMPORTANT    -‐  TO  ENSURE  CORRECT  OPERATION  OF  YOUR  HEAT  MAT  PLEASE
READ  THE  GUIDE  BEFORE  COMMENCING  INSTALLATION
•      DO  NOT  CUT,  BURN  OR  PIERCE  THE  HEAT  MAT
•      DO  NOT  SUBMERSE  IN  WATER  –  HEAT  MAT  IS  SPLASH  PROOF  ONLY
•      DO  NOT  BURY  UNDER  A  THICK  LAYER  OF  SUBSTRATE

This  heatmat  can  be  used  to  in  many  different  applications  where  a
gentle  heat  is  required  and  is  ideal  for  heating  your  pet’s  vivarium.
Heating  your  pet’s  environment  should  be  designed  to  allow  a  warm
and  cool  area  within  the  vivarium  this  allows  for  a  natural  habitat  to
be  obtained  for  your  pet.    We  recommend  the  heat  mat  to  be  no
larger  than  half  the  floor  space  of  the  vivarium.
Microclimate  heat  mats  are  designed  to  run  continuously  and  if
installed  following  our  instructions  will  run  for  many  years.
Microclimate  heat  mats  can  be  plugged  directly  into  a  mains  socket
but  we  strongly  recommend  the  use  of  a  thermostat  to  control  the
temperature  within  the  vivarium.    In  an  average  room  the
temperature  can  vary  considerably  this  in  turn  affects  the
temperature  within  the  vivarium  without  a  thermostat  to  control  the
temperature  your  pet  may  not  have  the  correct  environment  for  its
well-‐being.    Heat  mats  are  compatible  with  all  types  of  thermostat  i.e.
on/off,  dimmers  and  pulse  proportional.  For  more  information  on
Microclimate  thermostats  please  visit  www.microclimate.co.uk  or
visit  your  local  Microclimate  dealer.

Installation  of  Heat  Mat  below  Vivarium

Alternative  fixing  locations

To  install  the  heat  mat  underneath  the  vivarium  please  note  that  at
least  5mm  air  gap  should  be  allowed  between  the  heat  mat  and  the
underside  of  the  vivarium.    This  can  be  achieved  by  supporting  the
vivarium  on  the  2  longest  sides  with  strips  of  wood  or  rubber  feet  from
your  local  hardware  store.  This  will  allow  the  other  2  sides  to  be  clear  to
allow  for  adequate  ventilation.

Rear  wall  mounting
For  optimum  heat  output  into  the  vivarium  the  heat  mat  may  be
mounted  to  the  wall  of  the  vivarium.  The  heat  mat  can  be  secured  to
the  wall  using  double-‐sided  tape.
Floor  mounting

Below  the  mat  we  recommend  a  12mm  thick  fire  retardant  polystyrene
sheet  for  insulation.
If  the  Vivarium  is  to  be  placed  on  the  floor  i.e.  carpet  then  a  suitable
plinth    (Wood)  at  least  12mm  thick  should  be  placed  between  the
polystyrene  and  the  floor.
We  recommend  that  the  thickness  of  any  substrate  layer  is  kept  to  a
minimum.

If  the  heat  mat  is  to  be  installed  inside  the  vivarium  on  the  floor,  the
following  recommendations  should  be  followed.    Please  note  that
this  mounting  option  is  not  recommended  and  under  vivarium  and
rear  wall  mounting  options  allow  better  performance  of  the  heat
mat.
The  mat  should  be  secured  to  the  floor  using  double-‐sided  tape.
The  mains  cable  should  be  kept  as  short  as  possible  within  the  tank.
The  mains  connection  to  the  mat  should  be  kept  as  far  away  from
water  as  possible.  The  mat  is  splash  proof  only.
A  thermostat  MUST  be  used  to  provide  temperature  control  of  the
heat  mat  in  case  of  temperature  build  up  beneath  the  substrate
caused  by  the  substrate  acting  as  an  insulator.    It  is  recommended
that  the  sensor  be  placed  directly  on  the  mat  underneath  the
substrate.
ANY  SUBSTRATE  PLACED  OVER  THE  MAT  SHOULD  BE  KEPT  TO  A
MAXIMUM  DEPTH  OF  5mm.
Do  not  place  anything  such  as  a  hide  or  water  dish  on  the  substrate
directly  above  the  heatmat.
If  you  are  in  any  doubt  over  the  correct  installation  of  this  product
please  contact  your  retailer  or  Microclimate  direct  we  are  always
happy  to  help!
