General project instructions For projects, groups have two options: (1) picking your own project, (2) choosing a specified project. Picking your own project If you decide to pick your own project on the topic and data of interest, please submit a project proposal by November 13th. Your proposal should have a clear description of the database that you are using, and use some visualization techniques to show the visual patterns of the data. Next, you need to identify some fundamental questions that you are trying to answer using the database (for reference, you can look at the type of questions we have proposed in the specified projects). Once you identify the questions, you need to mention what methods (among those learned in class) you are going to use to answer those questions. You can either prepare a pdf document or an ipynb document and email the proposal along with the database that you are going to use to me (miladm@berkeley.edu). After you submit your proposal, I will give you feedback and then you can go forward with your project. Choosing a specified project If you choose to work on the specified projects by us, take a look at the two specified projects and their instructions in the folders Project1 and Project2. Discuss with your group members which project is more interesting, and please send me an email (miladm@berkeley.edu) with your choice, and the name of group members by November 13th. Final Presentation We do not require a project report, so your entire project grading would be based on your final presentation. Each group have 10 minutes of time for presenting their project and their findings. You can use any platform for presentation, but we recommend using Microsoft PowerPoint. You should make sure that all of the group members are presenting part of the project, for example, if your group has three members, you should divide the presentation in three parts, which each of you will present one part. This does not mean that each member worked only on that specific part, it is just for encouraging all of you to give a presentation. 1
