Educational and Environmental Resource
The Bison Pump is making a big splash in Australia. This installation
by Nature’s Playground features the Bison Shallow Well Hand Pump.
When asked about this particular installation, this was the reply:
“We used two shallow underground reservoirs connected together.
One under the pump and the other at the end of the creek bed.
Their purpose is to recycle the water. We hard piped float valves to a
main’s water supply to ensure the reservoirs never run out of water.
We set the level and the floats maintain the water height.
The creek bed was built using local river stones and concreted into
position to form a hard water run. This client now has one of these in
each of his 5 day care centers.

Houston Sabine Water Pump Station

“The sixty-foot tall structure of 12- 8- and 4-inch
steel pipes with amber and blue beacons on top
stands inside the restricted grounds of the Sabine
Water Pump Station. It is a much bigger, slightly
more elaborate version of other pipe structures
located on the Pump Station grounds. One pipe, like
the branch of a large tree, leaves the Pump Station
property, passes over the Pump Station fence and
ends with a showerhead twenty-five feet overhead
in Buffalo Bayou Park.
On the ground below the showerhead is an eight-
foot diameter stainless steel drain cover and a
contemporary version of an old-fashioned manual
well pump. As one pushes down on the pump
handle water rains down from the shower head
twenty-five feet above. Simultaneously, and as a
result of pumping water through the pipes, orange
and blue twin beacons on top of the structure flash,
signaling people as far away as downtown that
another person has doused themselves with a
refreshing, albeit brief, shower.”

The Bison Playground Pump Kit is designed for
playgrounds and educational learning centers. The
Bison shallow well hand pump is mounted on a
storage tank which is connected to a pressurized
water line.

Mr. Harbison,
It is hard to believe that it has been 5 years this summer since we
installed your wonderful Bison Pumps. I was sending information
about your pumps to some parks folks in Florida and just wanted
to thank you for building a better mouse trap (pumps). We have
only done preventive maintenance on the pumps and have had
no problems with them.
I sent your Web Site to my Florida folks and was surprised not to
see your custom pumps (dog bone handle) not shown. Parks &
Recreation folks would enjoy seeing what you have done for us.

Water Education in Singapore
This hand pump is a custom shallow well hand pump designed for this
application in Singapore. It was designed to be 35” tall for a
comfortable pumping height. The purpose is demonstrate the power of
water. The water is drawn from a canal below the street. As you pump
the hand pump, the water, which is piped from the spout, powers the
water wheel.
