The Double Swing Hinge with Emergency Release Stop is an innovative healthcare solution that permits
quick door opening in an emergency situation. A double swing continuous hinge is combined with an
emergency release stop to provide additional safety features that are easy to use and help minimize risk.
ASSA ABLOY offers two styles of double swing hinges and two styles of emergency release stops. The
Markar Double Swing Hinge features a pin and barrel style hinge and the Pemko Double Swing Hinge
features a gear style hinge. Both double swing hinge styles have a unique 100º swing that allows the door
to swing in either direction.
The two models of the Pemko Emergency Release Stop feature either a special flush bolt or a multipoint
latch. Both models provide the functionality to release the stop in an emergency situation, allowing the
door to be opened in the opposite direction. The stops are used on the strike edge of the door and come
standard with hospital tip to complete the solution.
The Double Swing Hinge and Emergency Release Stop are accepted by the New York State Office of Mental
Health (OMH) for use in high risk areas.

If ERS is installed on a cased open jamb, an extended lip strike is needed. To avoid using
the extended lip strike, use a single rabbet jamb on strike side of frame.
