Thesemetrics are intended as input for behavioralchange programs for managing lifestyle ofindividuals with risk of or affected by weight andactivity related chronic disease. Investigation of these parameters is used in theassessment of the physiological state of a personand their daily physical activity level. For people atrisk of these lifestyle related chronic diseases orpatients with a pre-existing condition, thecontinuous monitoring of these parameters cangive insight in changes of heart rate and dailyphysical activity. The non-medical purpose is measurement of:steps, resting respiration rate and sleep patterns, and providing: automatic activity recognition(cycling, running, walking), a heart rate zoneindication and sedentary behavior alerting, forwellness purposes. The device is intended for 24/7 use in daily life, both indoor and outdoor, by adults of 18 years andolder. The Philips health band is intended to be used byone adult consumer only. Operating principleThe Philips health band is a wrist-worn activity(accelerometer) and heart rate measurementdevice that uses the Opticardiogram technology. The general operating principle of thisOpticardiogram technology is based on LEDsemitting light through the surface of the skin. Partof that light is reflected and collected by the photosensor. The blood flow in the arteries is driven by the heartbeating and pumping blood. The blood flowchanges over time. Therefore, the amount of lightreflected varies over time. The sensor in the healthband collects this change in reflection of light.IntroductionCongratulations on your purchase and welcome toPhilips! Make sure that the health band is not on your wrist bone (Fig. 7). The health band is designed to be worn day and night. Note: You can wear the health band on your left orright wrist. In the app you can also set which handis your dominant hand. Make sure the wearing sidein the settings menu of the HealthSuite health appis the same as the wearing side on your wrist. Ifyou wear the health band on your other wrist, alsochange the wearing side in the app to ensurecorrect health metrics.Avoiding skin reactionsTo reduce the risk of skin reactions follow theseinstructions.- Clean the device and skin underneath thedevice regularly and after each sports session.Take the health band off once in a while to giveyour skin some rest.- Always dry the device when it has become wet.- Do not wear the strap too tight, to ensure it isstill comfortable to wear.Wearing the health band comfortably- Wearing clothes over your health band couldcause the health band to slide across the skinslightly. This might feel uncomfortable.- At any point during the day or after exercisingyour wrist may be swollen, this is a naturaleffect. - If you feel any discomfort due to the straps, give your skin some rest by not wearing thehealth band for a short period of time or bywearing the health band on your other wrist. When you refasten the health band, tryloosening the strap a notch.Wearing the health band correctlyWearing the health band correctly will positivelyinfluence the accuracy of the measurements.Accurate measurements rely on three key factors:- The sensor should be in direct contact with theskin. Make sure that the health band ispositioned correctly and not worn too loose(ensure a snug but comfortable fit). Make surethe health band and your wrist are clean anddo not have moisture and dirt on them. Whenskin contact is lost due to a lot of hand/wristmovement, you can try re-positioning thehealth band at bit higher up on the arm or onthe other arm. - The health band should be able to transmitlight through the skin. For example, tattoos inthe wrist area might cause inaccuratemeasurements, because less light is transmittedthrough the skin. Try re-positioning the healthband to a place where you do not have tattoos,e.g. higher up on your wrist or wear it on yourother wrist.- There should be sufficient blood flow throughthe skin for an accurate measurement.
-Do not wear the health band too tight, asthis may reduce the blood flow. Tryloosening the strap a notch to relieve somepressure, but make sure the health band stillhas a snug fit. -Blood flow in the skin can also be reducedwhen you exercise outdoors and it is (too)cold. Wear warm clothes and gloves duringoutdoor exercise in cold weather. -Warm-up exercises may cause temporaryinaccurate measurements as more bloodflow may be directed to the muscles. Ignoreinaccurate measurements during the firstminutes of your warm-up exercise. It takessome time before the blood flow in your skinadjusts to the exercise conditions.Note: It is very important that you provide thecorrect profile data in the app to enable accuratehealth metrics. When you experience problemswith your measurements, check if your problem isalready mentioned in the troubleshooting chapteror call 1-844-531-6861 for assistance.Display iconsThe symbols shown on the health band areexplained below.SymbolExplanationIndicates the heart rate in beats perminute (bpm) and the heart rate zone 1 to4 .Indicates the number of steps taken.Indicates the number of calories burnedduring activity.Indicates how many minutes you havebeen active.Indicates the menu where you canactivate sleep mode by double tapping.Indicates the sleep mode is activated.Deactivate the sleep mode by doubletapping on the display.Indicates your progress in comparison toyour set goal in the appIndicates a completed goalIndicates an empty batteryIndicates a full batteryIndicates you need to go to the app andfollow setup instructions.Indicates the health band is connecting toa smartphone.Indicates the alarm has been set.Indicates the alarm going offIndicates the health band lost the date ortime. After syncing, thehealth band will show an alarm icon on thedisplay. The silent alarm is now set.Additional heart rate measurementsThe Philips health band measures resting heartrate and heart rate recovery. These measurementsare not shown on the health band, but areavailable in the app. Below you can find moreinformation. Resting heart rate (RHR)Resting heart rate is the rate at which your heartbeats when you are at rest. Resting heart ratevalues can differ from person to person. However, changes in resting heart rate can be an indicationof changes in your fitness level. Active peopleoften have a lower resting heart rate because theirheart muscle is in better condition. You need towear the health band for at least 24 hours before aresting heart rate measurement can be shown.Heart rate recovery (HRR)Heart rate recovery is the difference in heart rate atpeak exercise and the heart rate as measured aftera one minute recovery period. The health bandmeasures HRR when you are exercising with yourheart rate being at least 80% of your maximumheart rate for a minimum of ten minutes. Themeasurement starts when the health bandregisters change from a high-intensity activity to alow-intensity activity. To obtain an estimate ofHRR, sit down immediately after stopping youractivity and then rest for at least 2 minutes to letyour heart rate recover. To make HRR estimatesmore comparable over time, try to estimate HRR insimilar settings with respect to: time of day, type ofactivity and activity duration.Important: Do not try to estimate your HRR if youare not very active or unaccustomed to a highintensity activity.Factory resetSelect factory reset to reset your health band todefault settings.
