The device is intended for all ages in a homeenvironment.GeneralThis Philips ear thermometer has been developedfor accurate and fast human body temperaturemeasurements in the ear in the adjusted mode. Research indicates that the ear is an ideal site fortaking the body temperature. The body coretemperature is regulated by the hypothalamus(Fig. 2). The hypothalamus (1) shares the sameblood supply as the tympanic membrane (2). - The device is not intended as a substitute forconsulting a doctor. Measurement results arefor reference only.- When the device is used to measure thetemperature of a child, it has to be operated byan adult. Adults can measure their owntemperature.- If you clean the ear, wait 5-10 minutes beforeyou use the device.- Earwax in the ear canal may cause inaccuratemeasurements. Make sure the ear canal is cleanbefore you use the device.- Do not take apart, repair or change any part ofthe device at any time, except for replacingbatteries.- Keep the infrared sensor dry, clean andundamaged to ensure accurate measurements.- Do not touch or blow at the infrared sensor. Adirty infrared sensor may cause inaccuratemeasurements. - Never clean the device with an abrasivecleaner, thinner, benzene or immerse thedevice in water or other liquids. - When the temperature of the storage areadiffers from the temperature of the measuringarea, wait at least 30 minutes for the device toacclimatize before you use the device.- If you do not intend to use the device for a longperiod of time, it is advised to remove thebatteries before storing. Use the search term: PhilipsHealthSuite health app. The Philips health app isavailable for iOS® 8.0+ and AndroidTM 4.4+. 1 Download the Philips HealthSuite health appon your mobile device, start the Setup wizardand follow the steps to create a user profile andadd the thermometer.2Make sure the Philips health app is active andBluetooth on your mobile device is on whenpairing is in progress. 3 Press the power button once, to switch on thethermometer (Fig. 6). - The app identifies the thermometer andrequests to pair.- The Bluetooth icon lights up when thethermometer is connected to your mobiledevice.4 The thermometer switches off automaticallyafter 30 seconds of no activity. - When the thermometer has paired successfullywith your mobile device, your personalmeasurement results are automaticallytransmitted to your mobile device viaBluetooth.Note: Only when the Philips HealthSuite healthapp is active, your personal health data can betransmitted.
Cleaning the infrared sensorTo achieve accurate measurements, it is importantto check if the infrared sensor is clean. Use acotton swab to clean the infrared sensor.See chapter Cleaning and storage for instructions. After cleaning, wait approximately 5-10 minutesbefore you use the device.Cleaning the earEarwax in the ear canal may cause inaccuratemeasurements. Make sure the ear canal is cleanbefore you use the device.Carefully clean your ear canal. If you clean yourear, wait for 5-10 minutes before you use thedevice.Resetting the thermometerIf you press the °F/°C selection button on the sideof the thermometer for longer than 10 seconds, allmeasurements are deleted from the device and allsettings return to the factory values.Measuring temperatureTips for proper measurementExternal factors can influence your bodytemperature. In the following cases, wait atleast 30 minutes before taking your temperature:- When you have been lying on your ear- When you had your ears covered- When you have been exposed to very low orvery high temperatures- When you have been swimming or bathing - If you wear earplugs or hearing aids, removethem firstWe do not advise you to use the device in thefollowing circumstances as this may causeinaccurate measurements:- When the temperature of the storage areadiffers from the temperature of the measuringarea. In this case, wait at least 30 minutesbefore you use the device.Body temperatureNormal body temperature is a range. A person'snormal temperature range tends to decrease withage. The following table shows normaltemperature ranges by age.The range of normal body temperature varies fromperson to person and can be influenced by manyfactors such as time of day, level of activity andemotions. (Fig. 8)-Children aged 1 year or older: hold the outerear and gently pull the ear up and back (Fig.9). 4 Insert the probe tip very gently and slowly intothe ear canal (Fig. 10). -Make sure the probe tip points straighttowards the eardrum when you hold it. -Always insert the probe tip into the sameear, in the same direction and at thesame depth. Note: A temperature measurement taken in theright ear may differ from a measurement takenin the left ear. 5 Press the power button to start themeasurement. (Fig. 11) -When the measurement is done, you hear 2beeps.6 Remove the probe tip from the ear canal (Fig.12). -The display shows the measuredtemperature and the temperature light ringaround the power button lights up red, if themeasured temperature is above 100.4° F/38.0°C.Note: The temperature display on the deviceshows the measurement result for 30 seconds oruntil you perform a new measurement.Temperature light ringThis device is equipped with a temperature lightring around the power button (Fig. 13).After the measurement, the ring lights up red,depending on the measured temperature. - When the temperature light ring lights up red,the measured temperature is between 100.4 °F(38.0 °C) and 109.2 °F (42.9 °C).Transmit and display personalmeasurement results in the appNote: Your personal measurement data is onlystored and displayed in the Philips HealthSuitehealth app.1 Start up the Philips HealthSuite health app andswitch on Bluetooth on your mobile device.2 The Bluetooth symbol will light up on thedisplay of the thermometer to indicate it isconnected to your mobile device.
- Once successfully connected, the measurementresults will be automatically transmitted to yourmobile device via Bluetooth. - If the data transmission is successful, themeasurement results are displayed in thePhilips HealthSuite health app. - The time and date of each measurement isshown in the Philips HealthSuite health app.Removing/inserting batteriesWhen the batteries are almost empty, the displayshows a flashing battery symbol and the text "bAtt'(Fig. 14). When the battery low symbol appears onthe display (Fig. 4) or if the device does notfunction at all, replace the batteries as soon aspossible. The device works on 2x 1.5V AAA Alkalinebatteries.Data will be lost when the batteries are completelyempty or are taken out of the thermometer.1 Slide the battery cover downwards to open thebattery compartment and remove the emptybatteries (Fig. 15).2 Insert two new batteries in the batterycompartment according to the polarityindications ( + and - ) marked inside thecompartment. Press down the batteries untilthey click into place (Fig. 16).3 Slide the battery cover back until it locks intoplace (Fig. 5).Setting the measurement unitYou can select either Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C)for measuring temperature.1 Switch on the device.2 Press and hold the °F/°C selection button for 3seconds to change the measurement unit (Fig.17).Cleaning and storage Caution: Do not expose the device to extremetemperatures (below -4 °F/-20 °C or over140 °F/60 °C), extreme levels of humidity (below15%RH or over 85%RH), direct sunlight or shock.This may result in inaccurate measurements.Use a cotton swab to clean the infrared sensor. Forhygienic reasons, the device should be cleanedafter each use1 Moisten the cotton swab with a few drops ofalcohol and wipe the surface of the infraredsensor gently with the swab (Fig. 18).2 Immediately wipe the surface dry with a cleancotton swab. 3 Use a soft dry cloth to clean the body of thedevice (Fig. 19). 4 Store the device in a clean, dry place at roomtemperature.  CalibrationThe device has been calibrated when it wasmanufactured. If the device is used according tothe instructions, periodic recalibration is notrequired.
