50” PDP-50MXE1-S

High reliability and durability
The durability of a PDP is closely related to
brightness management. Pioneer has developed
a method of influencing the lifetime of the panel.
Customers can select from brightness settings
including a ‘linear’ brightness mode that when
applied can significantly increase panel life.

A number of screen management functions
also extend the durability of the displays. These
include ‘orbiter mode’ that automatically
changes the display position, ‘inverse mode’
that reverses the image and ‘full mask’ that
turns the entire screen into a single colour.

Each feature can be controlled using a screen
management timer.
Brightness difference detection and automatic
brightness adjustment circuitry further protect
the screen by helping to prevent uneven
phosphor wear.

Economical and environmentally friendly

43” PDP-43MXE1

Pioneer Plasmas provide the lowest power
consumption in the XGA class. In the power
save mode, power consumption is reduced
by as much as 20 percent. All plastic parts
comprise halogen free material as opposed
to halogen fire resistant materials that are
thought to be a source of dioxins during
incineration. Metal parts have chrome free

*Compatible with Microsoft Plug & Play (VESA DDC 1/2B)

plating wherever possible. Pioneer Plasmas
comply with the standards of the International
Energy Star Programme (without the use of
PDA-5003/4).
To ensure compatibility with Microsoft
Windows, Pioneer’s displays have been
designed to meet the standards of the
Windows Hardware Qualification Labs

(WHQL) and can be used confidently in a
Windows environment.*

PURE Drive Technology
Pioneer’s exclusive PURE Drive technology encompasses the entire
range of image generation and processing that delivers the
PDP-50MXE1 and PDP-43MXE1’s astoundingly clear, smooth and

natural picture. Unlike other PDP systems, PURE Drive maintains all
video signals in the digital domain, which eliminates signal loss,
reduces distortion, and provides a far greater degree of image control.

Image Processing Technology
A/D
Conversion

Brightness / Contrast

IP Conversion

An important innovation is Super CLEAR Drive
technology. It processes the basic colour
elements enabling the reproduction of an
astonishing 1.07 billion colours. It also virtually
eliminates false contouring and improves
greyscale by increasing the gradation steps
from 1/5000 to 1/32500.

Pioneer Plasmas are the brightest in the
industry and have incredibly high contrast.
The panels produce an astounding 1000
candela brightness and 1100:1 contrast
ratio on the PDP-50MXE1 and 1100
candelas/1200:1 on the PDP-43MXE1.

Interlaced images are converted to progressive
to remove jagged edges. This creates a high
density video signal resulting in a more natural
and crisp image.

* Video signals can only be input after installation of an
optional video expansion card (e.g. Pioneer PDA-5003/4)

The cells of a plasma display panel are
where the light is generated and are a crucial
determinant of its image reproduction
capabilities. Pioneer has developed the Deep
Encased Cell Structure that eliminates light
leakage from neighbouring cells both above

and below to sharpen image clarity.
The Deep Encased Cell has increased
phosphor volume advancing illumination
efficiency and generating much brighter
images of up to 1100 candelas. The
efficiency gains ensure that the PDP-

50MXE1 and the PDP-43MXE1 offer the
lowest power consumption in the WXGA
class. Pioneer has further refined this
technology by improving the green
phosphor to support better colour balance
and superior greyscale performance.

Professional Features

Multi Picture Display

Pioneer plasmas are renowned for their comprehensive functionality and wealth of professional
features. These have been carefully designed to enable easy operation, installation and
seamless integration into a wide range of business applications.

The PDPs offer a choice of three
dual picture modes for simultaneous
display of images from any of the
connected inputs. Any combination
of inputs and signal standards can
be displayed together:
Split-Screen

Intelligent Auto Setup

Energy Save Modes

Layered Keylock

Auto Setup Mode: Allows instant ‘onetouch’ screen synchronisation with a PC.
Auto Adjust Mode: Detects the PC signal
and automatically adjusts the position of the
image on screen.

In addition to the standard operating mode
the panels offer a choice of four energy save
modes:
Power Save: Maintains peak white
performance whilst reducing power
consumption by around 15 percent.
Intermediate: Reduces power consumption
further than power save mode, whilst
maintaining strong peak white performance.
Linear Brightness: Reduces the peak
intensity of high brightness images, effectively
improving screen life and minimising the
possibility of image burn.
Auto Brightness Control: A sensor
automatically adjusts the brightness mode
depending on room lighting.

A number of functions can be locked to
make the display system more secure. Lock
modes are On/Off, Main Unit Buttons,
Remote Control, Main Unit Button + Remote
Control and Memory Lock, which selects
input, screen and volume default settings
when the unit is turned on.

Point Zoom
The Enhanced Point Zoom function lets you
instantly expand a PC image in three steps
(1.5x, 2.0x, 3.0x), great for emphasising key
points in presentations. The zoom navigation
sub-display area makes it easy to confirm
the expanded portion.

Picture-in-Picture: Small picture can be
moved to any of the four corners.

Expansion Solutions
Pioneer plasma displays provide unparalleled connectivity. In
addition to the standard 15 Pin D-sub and DVI-D connector the
displays include two open architecture expansion slots. One slot
is dedicated for signal input with two optional Pioneer expansion
cards available to handle all of the major video signals. The
second is a unique communications slot that includes an RS-232C

expansion card as standard. With their open architecture, these
slots enable interchangeable cards to be designed by third party
developers to handle all current and future analogue, digital and
communications signals. They also provide the flexibility for
systems integrators to design plasma installations to customers’
exact specifications.

RS-232C Commands
The standard RS-232C card supports
operation from a remote PC or control
systems, typically used in corporate and public
display environments. The interface offers bidirectional control so that displays can be
linked together and controlled individually

from a central point - monitoring what input
is being shown and how the displays are
operating.
The RS-232C card can be interchanged with
a potentially limitless array range of expansion
solutions that can be designed for the

communications slot. It is designed for signals
that include IEEE1394, USB, Ethernet, and
Web-Servers but can accommodate any other

Touchscreen Solutions
Turn plasma displays into touch panels for all types of applications.
Pioneer Plasma displays have revolutionised the way to present
information in a more powerful and effective way than ever
before. You can now add even more functionality to your PDPs,

by turning them into complete interactive touchscreen systems
with the PDK-50HW2. This is an invaluable tool that will make
presentations more streamlined for the presenter and more
impressive to the viewer.

When connected to a PC the PDK-50HW2 turns the display into a touch panel that can be
written on with either the dedicated pen or your finger. You can control all types of applications,
such as presentation software, media players or even web browsers. When used in conjunction
with whiteboard software the pen can be used to write or draw directly over any application
shown on the display allowing you to add comments, highlight data, delete and amend as
needed, then save whatever you write as a file straight onto your hard disk. Presentations,
lectures and meetings, etc. become much more interactive and efficient. With fast installation
and simple operation, the PDK-50HW2 will expand the potential of your plasma display.

In the Office

In the Forces

Presentations and meetings will be more
persuasive and effective when you can add
handwritten input without moving from the
display. Comments and symbols can be added
to emphasise important points as you present.

Military briefings could be conducted straight
onto aerial photographs or maps, then
duplicated for each member of a team
instantly, saving valuable time as task forces
need not take their own notes.

In Education

In Medicine

Teaching methods would be greatly
enhanced as information that was written
or drawn in any class, could be easily
retrieved for the next lesson, which would
give a greater continuity for the pupils.

Surgeons can effectively conduct live
demonstrations to larger groups of doctors
using the plasma touchscreen to highlight
their points of discussion instead of using
patients.
