1 Introduction
1.1 Welcome to Playster
Thanks for choosing Playster – you’ve made the right call!
Your Playster Combo Box takes care of everything, whether you’re at home or
on the move. And with a growing selection of unlimited movies, music, books,
and games, it’s something you’ll love to share with your family and friends.
This user manual makes it as easy as possible for you to get started with your
new device. It’s your go-to for any setup and operation questions you might
have, and it’ll guide you in your first steps towards a fulfilling and exciting
experience with Playster.
There are also some safety tips in here, so please read carefully!

Note: The information in this manual applies to version 5.1.1 of the Android
operating system. If your Playster tablet has a different version of Android
installed, it might look a little different but the way it operates will be largely
the same.

1.2 Safety Notice
Before using your Playster tablet, please read this information and relay it
to anybody else who might use the device.
Do not use your Playster tablet while driving. This puts your life in danger, as
well as the lives of others.
Check before using the tablet in a medical establishment, as it could interfere
with medical equipment.
Shut down the tablet or enable flight mode when boarding an airplane, so that
wireless signals do not interfere with the control signal of the airplane. The
airline will give more details on safe use of electronic devices.
Avoid using your Playster tablet around strong magnets. Sometimes they can
interfere with and damage storage drives, such as the one inside your tablet.
Do not use your Playster tablet in very high temperatures or in the vicinity of
flammable materials, such as gas stations.
Ensure that young children are supervised while using your Playster tablet.
Observe local laws and regulations, and respect the privacy and rights of others
when using the device.
Take care to follow the instructions in this manual when using a USB data
connection to prevent damage to the Playster tablet or a connected device.
Do not use your Playster tablet in a humid environment such as a bathroom,
and take care to avoid exposing it to liquids.

2 Combo Box overview
2.1 Contents
You’ll find the following things in your Playster Combo Box:

2.2 Notifications
When a message displays on your notification bar at the top of the screen,
touch the bar and slide downwards to see all of your notifications. Slide the
notification box upwards to close the list.
These are the icons you’ll see in your notification bar:
New mail Audio muted
Bluetooth connected SD card not found
USB connection active Downloading / Uploading
Event(s) approaching Download complete
Alarm clock active Notice/error message
Audio playing Data synchronizing
Storage space low More

3 Getting started
3.1 Button functions
Playster8 buttons function as follows:
Power Button
When powered off, press and hold for five seconds to
power on the device
When powered on, press once to shut off the screen,
and once again to reopen the screen
When powered on, press and hold this button for
three seconds to see shutdown options
When powered on, press and hold this button for 10
seconds to power off device immediately
Menu Button
Press to open the menu interface or to open an
application
Return button
Press to return to the last step, undo the last action,
or return to the previous operating interface
Home button
Press while on any interface, or open application to
return to the home screen
Multi Tasking
Press while on any interface to see all open
applications and interfaces

3.2 Powering the device on and off
Powering on
Press the power button for five seconds and you’ll see the start-up image indicating
that the device is powering on. Once you have loaded the home screen, the device
locks. You can unlock it by sliding upwards from the bottom of the screen (see 3.3).
Note: For extra security, you can set a password or pattern lock on the device.
Go to Settings in your applications menu and navigate to the Security menu.
Powering off
1 Press and hold the Power key for three seconds and your shutdown options
will
pop up on screen.
2 Press Power off to shut down the device.

3.3 Locking and unlocking the screen
By default, your Playster8 tablet screen will deactivate and lock after a period
of inactivity, in order to save power.
You can also lock the screen by pressing the power button once.
Activating the screen
You can unlock the screen by pressing the power button once. The screen locks
by default, but you can unlock it by swiping upwards on the lock icon.

3.4 Touch screen
Press to select
When you want to select an item on the home screen or within an
application, simply tap the desired icon or item with your finger.
Press and hold to drag
You can change the position of an application on your home screen by pressing
and holding the icon and then dragging it elsewhere on the screen. You’ll notice
that it appears to ‘pop up’ from its position, at which point you can drag it into a
new position.
Rotate
You can rotate the screen of your Playster tablet by simply turning it sideways.
This is useful for watching movies, playing certain games and using the camera.
If your screen does not rotate when you turn it, it could be because the rotation
has been disabled in the device settings.

3.5 Home screen
The home screen greets you every time you turn on your Playster tablet. You can
customize it by changing the wallpaper and adding application icons to it.
No matter which application you’re using on the device, you can always return
to the home screen by pressing the home button.

To change your desktop wallpaper:
1. Touch and hold a blank region of the home screen.
2. When the customization menu pops up, choose your new wallpaper. You can
either try the default wallpaper options or choose an item from your Gallery.
3. Tap to insert.

3.6 Connecting via USB
If you want to transfer files between your Playster tablet and another device such as a
computer or storage drive, you must first connect the two devices, as follows:
1. Connect your Playster tablet to the computer using the USB cable. The
status bar should indicate that the devices are connected.
2. Open the status bar by touching it and swiping downwards.
3. Tap Connected as a media device and make sure your device is set up
to share files.
4. Your Playster tablet will now show as a removable drive on your
computer, and you’ll be able to transfer files.

Copy a document to storage card
If you want to transfer files between your Playster tablet and another device
such as a computer or storage drive, you must first select connect the two
devices, as follows:
1. Connect your Playster tablet to the computer using the USB cable. The
status bar should indicate that the devices are connected.
2. Choose Connected as a media device in the status bar and ensure that
Media device (MTP) box is checked.
3. Your Playster tablet will show as a removable drive on your computer.
4. Locate the document you want to copy to your Playster tablet and copy it
to the removable drive, by either dragging it into the desired folder in your
file manager or selecting Copy from the Edit menu.
5. Once the transfer is complete, follow the instructions on your computer to
safely disconnect the Playster tablet.
Note: When your tablet is connected with a USB cable and you choose to use it
as a USB storage device, you’ll be temporarily unable to access any SD cards
installed in the device. Once you disconnect the tablet, the memory card will be
accessible again.

4 Wireless connectivity
4.1 Wi-Fi Connection
Your Playster tablet can connect to Wi-Fi networks by following these simple steps:
1. On the home screen, tap the menu button to load the applications list.
2. Select Settings.
3. Tap the Wi-Fi menu option and ensure that the Wi-Fi switch is set to the ‘on’
position. Your tablet will begin to list the available Wi-Fi networks.
4. Select the desired Wi-Fi network and type the password, if necessary.
5. Tap Connect.

4.2 Bluetooth Connection
Using the Bluetooth connection on your Playster tablet has several
advantages, such as:
Exchanging files between your Playster tablet and another Bluetooth
device, including computers, phones, and other mobile devices.
Sychronizing data with other Bluetooth devices.
Connecting a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, or joystick to your Playster
tablet.
Connecting via Bluetooth (Figure 4.2)
1. Open Settings from the application menu and navigate to the Bluetooth
section.
2. Ensure that Bluetooth connectivity is activated by dragging the switch to
the right.
Note: You can name your Playster tablet as a Bluetooth device by pressing
the menu icon in the top right and selecting Rename this device.
Note: Other Bluetooth devices nearby will automatically appear as available
devices. Select the device to which you wish to connect your Playster
tablet.
4.3 Connecting via HDMI
You can connect your Playster tablet to a television or monitor using an HDMI
cable. This allows you to watch Playster’s movies and TV series on as big a screen
as you like!
1. Ensure that your Playster tablet is powered on.
2. Connect the tablet to a television or monitor using your HDMI cable and
ensure that the external screen is set to the right channel or input source.
The tablet display should automatically synchronize with the connected
television or monitor.

5 Using the camera
Here’s how you use the Playster tablet’s camera: Select
Camera from the application menu.
1. Tap the shutter button at the bottom of the screen to take a photo. Once the
photo is taken, the image displays on screen.
2. Tap the menu icon to customize details like image size, storage location and
white balance.

You can record videos too! Here’s how it works:
1. Swipe from the left on the camera screen and tap the Video icon. The
shutter icon will now become a red circle.
2. Tap the red circle to begin recording. Tap it again to stop recording. The
video will display on the screen once you’ve completed your recording.
3. Tap the menu items to set color effects, white balance, and video quality.
Note: To adjust the definition of the video, select either 480p or 720p from the
Resolution & quality menu.

6 Managing your files
You can use the File Manager application to manage, edit, and delete files and
folders on your Playster tablet. You can also use it to share your files with
others.
Open File Manager from the application menu and you’ll be able to browse
the files on your device and on any installed memory cards.

Copy and move files
1. In the file browser, tap the file you want to copy or move.
2. Select Cut or Copy on the file you want. Cut moves the file, while Copy
makes a duplicate in the location of your choice.
3. Navigate to the folder where you want to drop the file, and open the menu
by tapping the Menu icon.
4. Tap Paste to move or copy the file.
Delete files
1. In the file browser, select the file you want to delete.
2. Tap Delete.
3. Tap OK to delete the file.
Create a folder
1. In the location of your choice, tap the Menu icon.
2. Tap New folder. You’ll be prompted to type in the name of the folder you
want to create.
3. Tap OK to create the folder.
Search for a file or folder
1. Tap the search icon in the toolbar. You’ll be prompted to type in the name
of the file or folder that you’re looking for.
2. Tap OK to load your search results.
