ENGLISHThis user manual contains instructions for PolarWearLink®31, Polar WearLink+®Hybrid andPolar WearLink®W.I.N.D. transmitters. Themodel of your transmitter is printed on theconnector.Please follow the pictures on the front cover.Transmitter Parts1. The electrode areas on the reverse side ofthe strap detect heart rate. Picture A1.2. The connector sends the heart rate signal tothe wrist unit. Picture A2.Wear the Transmitter1. Wet the electrode areas of the strap underrunning water and make sure that they arewell moistened. Picture B1.2. Attach the connector to the strap. Adjustthe strap length to fit snugly andcomfortably. Picture B2.3. Tie the strap around your chest, just belowthe chest muscles, and attach the hook tothe other end of the strap. Picture B3.4. Check that the wet electrode areas arefirmly against your skin and that the Polarlogo of the connector is in a central,upright position. Picture B4.Detach the transmitter connector from thestrap and rinse the strap under running waterafter every use.The Polar WearLink connector can be usedwith specific apparel with built-in soft textileelectrodes. Wet the electrodes and clip theconnector onto the apparel without the strap,with the Polar logo in an upright position.ENGLISH1
Teaching the Polar WearLink W.I.N.D/Hybrid transmitter to communicatewith your wrist unitA new transmitter has to be introduced to thewrist unit in order to measure heart rate. This iscalled teaching.1. Wear the transmitter and wrist unit, andmake sure you are far (20 m/66 ft) fromother Polar WearLink W.I.N.D. or Hybridtransmitters.2. In time mode, press OK. The unit startssearching for the transmitter signal.3. Once the transmitter is identified, NewWearLink found, Teach new WearLink? isdisplayed.• Select YES to confirm teaching.Completed! is displayed. Start exerciserecording by pressing OK.• Select NO to cancel teaching.Care and MaintenanceThe transmitter is a high-tech instrument thatshould be handled with care. The followinginstructions will help you fulfill guaranteeobligations.Detach the transmitter connector from thestrap and rinse the strap under running waterafter every use. Dry the connector with a softtowel. Never use alcohol or any abrasivematerial (steel, wool or cleaning chemicals).Wash the strap regularly in a washingmachine at 40ºC/104ºF or at lest after everyfifth use. This ensures reliable measurementand maximizes the life span of the transmitter.Use a washing pouch. Do not soak, spin-dry,iron, dry clean or bleach the strap. Do not usedetergent with bleach or fabric softener. Neverput the transmitter connector in the washingmachine or drier!ENGLISH2
Dry and store the strap and connectorseparately. Wash the strap in a washingmachine before long-term storage, and alwaysafter use in pool water with high chlorinecontent.Keep the transmitter in a cool and dry place. Donot store wet in non-breathing material, such asa sports bag. Sweat and moisture keep theelectrodes wet and activated. Do not expose todirect sunlight for extended periods.ServiceDuring the warranty period, service the productat an authorized Polar Service Center only. Thewarranty does not cover damage caused byunauthorized service. See Limited InternationalPolar Guarantee.BatteriesTo change the battery yourself, follow belowinstructions. See picture C.1. Using a coin, open the battery cover byturning it counterclockwise to OPEN.2. Insert the battery (CR2025) inside thecover with the positive (+) side against thecover. Make sure the sealing ring is in thegroove to ensure water resistance.3. Press the cover back into the connector.4. Use the coin to turn the cover clockwise toCLOSE.Open the cover only when changing the batteryto ensure a long life, and make sure the sealingring is not damaged, in which case you shouldreplace it with a new one.Battery kits with sealing rings are available atPolar retailers and authorized Polar ServiceENGLISH3

Ifswallowed, contact a doctor immediately.Batteries should be disposed of in compliancewith local regulations.PrecautionsFor allergy information, see the listed materialsin Technical Specifications. Avoid skinreactions by wearing the transmitter over a shirt,moistened under the electrodes.Keep insect repellent away from the transmitter.The moisture and abrasion may causestaining on light-colored clothes.Using Your Transmitter in a WaterEnvironmentPolar WearLink 31 and WearLink Hybridtransmitters may be used for swimming, butinterference may occur for the followingreasons:• Sea- and pool water are very conductive, andelectrodes may short-circuit, preventing ECGsignals from being detected by thetransmitter.• Jumping or sharp muscle movement mayshift the transmitter so the ECG signalscannot be detected.• The ECG signal strength is individual anddepends on tissue composition.Polar WearLink W.I.N.D. transmitter is waterresistant but will not measure heart rate inwater.ENGLISH4
