ENGLISHThis user manual contains instructions for PolarSoft strap, and Polar H1, H2 and H3 heart ratesensors. The model of your heart rate sensor isprinted on the connector. The latest version of this user manual can bedownloaded at www.polar.fi/support. For videotutorials, go towww.polar.fi/support/video_tutorials.Please follow the pictures on the front and backcovers.Heart Rate Sensor Parts1. The plastic electrode areas on the reverseside of the strap detect heart rate. PictureA1.2. The connector sends the heart rate signalto the training computer. Picture A2.Polar heart rate sensors enable training in agroup without interference from other heart ratesensors.Wear the Heart Rate Sensor1. Moisten the electrode area of the strap.Picture B1.2. Attach the connector to the strap. PictureB2.3. Tie the strap around your chest, just belowthe chest muscles, and attach the hook tothe other end of the strap. Picture B3.4. Adjust the strap length to fit tightly butcomfortably.5. Check that the moist electrode areas arefirmly against your skin and that the Polarlogo of the connector is in a central andupright position. Detach the connector from the strap and rinsethe strap under running water after every use.Sweat and moisture may keep the electrodeswet and the heart rate sensor activated. Thiswill reduce the battery life.See detailed washing instructions in the Caringfor Your Heart Rate Sensor section.Using a New Heart Rate SensorWhen you purchase a new Polar H2 or Polar H3heart rate sensor, it has to be paired with thetraining computer in order to measure yourheart rate. See your Polar training computer'suser manual for instructions on how to take theheart rate sensor into use.Using Your Heart Rate Sensor in WaterPolar H1 and Polar H2 heart rate sensors canbe used in water activities with trainingcomputers that use magnetic data transmission. Please notice that sea and pool water are veryconductive, and electrodes may short-circuit,preventing ECG signals from being detected bythe heart rate sensor. When using a bathing suit, the bestperformance is achieved by wearing the heartrate sensor underneath it.Polar H3 heart rate sensor is water resistantbut will not measure heart rate in water dueto its 2.4 GHz (W.I.N.D.) transmissionfrequency.Caring for Your Heart Rate SensorThe heart rate sensor is a high-tech instrumentthat should be handled with care. Follow thecaring instructions to ensure reliablemeasurement and to maximize the life span ofthe heart rate sensor. The following instructionswill help you fulfill guarantee obligations.2ENGLISH
Connector: Detach the connector from the strapafter every use and dry the connector with a softtowel. Clean the connector with a mild soap andwater solution when needed. Never use alcoholor any abrasive material (eg. steel wool orcleaning chemicals).Strap: Rinse the strap under running water afterevery use and hang to dry. Clean the strapgently with a mild soap and water solution whenneeded. Do not use moisturizing soaps, becausethey can leave residue on the strap. Do notsoak, iron, dry clean or bleach the strap. Do notstretch the strap or bend the electrode areassharply.Dry and store the strap and the connectorseparately, to maximize the heart rate sensorbattery lifetime. Keep the heart rate sensor ina cool and dry place. Do not store the heart ratesensor wet in non-breathing material, such as asports bag, to prevent snap oxidation. Do notexpose the heart rate sensor to direct sunlightfor extended periods.Never put the strap or the connector in awashing machine or dryer!ServiceDuring the two-year guarantee/warranty periodwe recommend that you have service, other thanbattery replacement, done by an authorizedPolar Service Center only. The warranty does notcover damage or consequential damage causedby service not authorized by Polar Electro. Lever the battery cover open by using thebracket on the strap. Picture C1.2. Remove the old battery from the batterycover with a suitable sized small ridgidstick or bar, such as a toothpick. Anon-metal tool is preferable. Be careful notto damage the battery cover. Picture C2.3. Insert a new battery (CR 2025) inside thecover with the negative (-) side outwards.Picture C3.4. Align the ledge on the battery cover withthe slot on the connector and press thebattery cover back into its place. Youshould hear a snap. Picture C4.When changing the battery, make sure thesealing ring is not damaged, in which case youshould replace it with a new one to ensure thewater resistance of the connector. You can purchase the sealing ring/battery kits atwell-equipped Polar retailers and authorizedPolar Services. In the USA and Canada, theadditional sealing rings are available atauthorized Polar Service Centers. In the USAthe sealing ring/battery kits are also available atwww.shoppolar.com.Keep batteries away from children. Ifswallowed, contact a doctor immediately.Batteries should be properly disposed ofaccording to local regulations.4ENGLISH
PrecautionsFor allergy information, see the listed materialsin Technical Specifications. Avoid skinreactions by wearing the heart rate sensor over ashirt, moistened under the electrodes. The combined impact of moisture and intenseabrasion may cause a black color to come offthe heart rate sensor’s surface, possiblystaining light-colored clothes. If you useperfume or insect repellent on your skin, youmust ensure that it does not come intocontact with the heart rate sensor.Technical SpecificationsBattery type CR 2025Battery sealing ring O-ring 20.0 x 0.90Material SiliconePolar H1 battery life 1500 hPolar H2 battery life 800 hPolar H3 battery life 1600 hOperatingtemperature14 °F to 122 °F / -10°C to +50 °CConnector material ABSStrap material 38% Polyamide, 29%Polyurethane, 20%Elastane, 13%PolyesterThe Polar heart rate sensors apply the followingpatented technology, among others:• OwnCode®coded transmissionENGLISH 5
