Uncrate the waterfall
Uncrate the
shipping
container

Your waterfall ships inside of a wooden crate to protect the waterfall
from damage.
Your container indicates which side is the front of the waterfall.
1. Position the package so that the front is facing towards the ceiling.
2. Starting with the front panel of the shipping container, use the
drill with the No. 2 Phillips bit to remove all of the screws.
3. Remove the cardboard. The waterfall is wrapped in plastic and
surrounded by protective insulation foam. Remove the top layer
of insulation foam, but do not throw it away. You can reuse the
foam to protect the stainless steel while you move it into its final
position.
4. Remove the remaining wooden panel pieces and cardboard from
the shipping container.
5. Once all of the wood is removed, lift the waterfall to a standing
position. Leave the metal header off until the waterfall is in its
final position.
CAUTION Because the waterfall is very heavy, it is best to use
four people to move and position it.
6. Use the platform dollies to move the waterfall near its final
location, if necessary.
• To position the dollies under the base, tip the base on one
of the short edges. Roll one of the platform dollies under the
lifted base edge. Lower the base onto the platform dolly and
carefully tilt the waterfall so that the other dolly can be rolled
underneath the opposite side. Move the waterfall nearest to the
final location as possible.
• To remove from dollies, lift one side of the waterfall, remove
a dolly then rest the base onto the floor. Do the same for the
other side.

Installation
Position the
waterfall

Use a platform dolly under each end of the waterfall to move the
waterfall into position easily. Take the waterfall off the dollies and
slide into its final position.

Level the
waterfall

If the waterfall is not level, use shims to level the waterfall.
1. Placing the level on the waterfall base lid, slightly tilt the waterfall
and insert the thinnest end of a shim between the floor and the
bottom of the waterfall unit. Check the level again. Use a mallet to
tap the shim further into the underside of the base, if necessary.
Repeat the process until the base is level on all sides.
2. Once the base is level, break off or cut the exposed ends of the
shims.
3. Place the header on top of the water fall.
NOTE Because the header is heavy, it is best to use two people to
move and position it.

Install bulb in UV

Using the suction cup glass holders, remove the base lids. Remove
all packaging inside the base. The waterfall ships with the plumbing
installed except the UV bulb and bulb sleeve to prevent damage
during transit.
1. To install the bulb and sleeve, unscrew the ballast from the lamp
housing.

Ballast

6

Enclosed Waterfall

Installation
2. Wearing gloves or holding the bulb with a cloth (avoid touching
the bulb; oils from your skin will reduce the bulb lifespan), align
the center groove on the bulb with the pin on the inside of the
ballast.

3. Push the bulb in firmly.

4. Slide the bulb sleeve over the bulb until the rubber ring touches
the ballast housing.
5. Slide the bulb into the lamp housing. Screw the ballast back into
the lamp housing until it is hand tight. Do not overtighten!
6. Screw the lamp housing back into the base plumbing.
7. Do a quick check to make sure the UV light powers on. Look for
the three translucent rings to light up. Do not leave the light on
for more than 10 seconds. If it doesn’t illuminate, unscrew the
ballast and check to make sure the sleeve and bulb are correctly in
place.
Chase cables to
power

Chase or run the cables for the water pump, UV sterilizer, and
lighting fixture (if purchased) out of the small hole on the side/back
of the waterfall base. Ensure the cords reach the outlet. If the cords
don’t reach, use a power strip and an extension cord.
CAUTION Do not plug in any components until you’ve filled the
panel with water.
CAUTION: WHEN SERVICING YOUR WATER FEATURE MAKE SURE THAT YOU DISCONNECT ALL ELECTRICAL AND LIGHTING.

2. Connect the fill insert spout and funnel (supplied) into the fill
valve.
3. Open the fill valve (parallel to pipe).

CAUTION

Protect your waterfall and make sure to add the
water treatment before running for the first time.

Treat the water

4. Pour one tablespoon of monopersulfate powdered water
treatment (provided with purchase) into the funnel, which will
dissolve as you add the distilled water. We recommend “Robelle
Oxidizing Shock & Swim Monopersulfate.”
NOTE Treat water with 1 tablespoon monopersulfate every 6
months. See maintenance instructions on p. 15.
CAUTION Do not treat with any other additives or solutions
including chlorine, bromine, or cleaning solvents/solutions.

Fill with distilled
water

5. Using distilled water only, fill the panel until the water is 10 inches
from the bottom of the panel (5 inches above the base lid).
NOTE: The minimum water fill line indicator is located on the
clear acrylic panel near the water fill valve.

Surface Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning acrylic

CAUTION

Do not use Windex® or any ammonia-based cleaning
product. It will damage the waterfall’s acrylic surface.

CAUTION

Use only a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the acrylic
surface. Other materials may damage the surface.

Use a clean microfiber cloth to remove blemishes such as fingerprints
and dust.
For tougher stains, use:
• Novus acrylic cleaner or
• Dish-detergent-and-water mixture and clean microfiber cloth
We recommend Novus acrylic cleaner, a 3-part product for
general cleaning, scratch removing and polishing. Follow package
instructions.

Yearly component replacement

UV sterilizer bulb

when servicing the waterfall.

Pondmaster® UV Sterilizer
•
•
•
•
•
•

For optimum performance, replace bulb once every year.
It should remain on 24 hours per day throughout the year.
The bulb has a lifespan of 9000 hours before the UV output
drops below a useful level.
The UV sterilizer housing has 3 rings that will glow blue if the
bulb is still producing UV wavelength.
The bulb will produce visible light long after it has stopped
producing UV.
The valves on the UV sterilizer should remain in the on (parallel
to plumbing) position until you are ready to change UV sterilizer
or service the bulb.

Yearly bulb replacement
You will need: towels, bucket
1. Disconnect power to the waterfall
2. Turn both UV valves to the OFF position (perpendicular to
plumbing). This will prevent water from draining from the
waterfall while servicing. Water will be inside the UV fixture, so
have towels on hand.
3. Loosen the union valves at the ends of the UV to disconnect UV
fixture from waterfall.
4. Carefully remove from base and discard the leftover water into a
bucket or drain.
5. See instructions on page 7 to replace the UV bulb.

Component replacement
Pump
(replace as
needed)

Because you are using distilled water inside of an enclosed waterfall,
your waterfall pump requires little maintenance; however should
your pump fall outside of warranty, you will need to replace it.
To replace the pump:
You will need: towels, bucket, plumbers tape
1. Disconnect power to the waterfall.
2. Remove front base lid.
3. Turn the primary control and water pump valves to the OFF
position (perpendicular to pipe). This will prevent water from
draining from the waterfall while servicing. However water will
be inside the pump, so have towels on hand.
4. Remove the quick disconnects at the inlet and outlet of the
waterfall pump.
5. Carefully remove pump from base and discard the leftover water
into a bucket or drain.
6. Remove the plumbing connections and transfer them to the
replacement pump.
7. Use plumbers tape on the threads of the new pump before
transferring the piping to the new pump.
8. Ensure the piping is tightly threaded onto the new pump before
reconnecting to the quick disconnects.
9. Turn the water supply and water pump valves to the ON position
(parallel to pipe).
10. Check for leaks around the pump. Tighten fittings.
11. Connect power to the waterfall and test.
