While the battery is being replaced, the 7535 will save its current data for at least 10 minutes.2.3 The KeyboardThe 7535 offers two types of keyboard layouts – a 58-key keyboard and a 36-key, large button keyboard. The <BLUE> and <ORANGE> modifier keys provide access to additional keys and system functions. These functions are colour coded in orange and blue print above the keyboard keys.2.3.1 Modifier KeysThe <SHIFT>, <CTRL>, <ALT>, <BLUE> and <ORANGE> keys are modifier keys. Pressing a modifier key changes the function of the next key pressed. For example, on a 58-key keyboard, a square bracket is printed in orange print above the <4> key. Pressing the <ORANGE> key followed by the <4> key displays a square bracket rather than the number 4.
Psion Teklogix 7535 Hand-Held Computer Quick Start Guide 31The <SHIFT>, <CTRL> and <ALT> keys operate much like a desk-top keyboard except that they are not chorded (two keys held down simultaneously). The modifier key must be pressed first followed by the key whose function you want modified.Activating Modifier KeysWhen a modifier key is pressed once, it is displayed in lowercase let-ters in the taskbar at the bottom of the 7535 screen. For example, if the <CTRL> key is pressed, ctrl key is displayed at the bottom of the unit screen. Once the next key is pressed, the modifier key becomes inactive and disappears from the taskbar.Locking Modifier KeysWhen a modifier key is pressed twice, it is ‘locked’ on. A ‘locked’ modifier key is displayed in uppercase letters in the taskbar. For example, pressing the <BLUE> key twice locks it on – it is dis-played as BLUE KEY in the taskbar at the bottom of the computer screen. The locked modifier key will remain active until it is pressed a third time to unlock or turn it off.2.3.2 The KeysThe <SHIFT> KeyUsed to display uppercase alpha characters and provide access to the symbols above the numeric keys. The Arrow KeysMove the cursor around the screen in the direction of the arrow – up, down, left and right.
32 Psion Teklogix 7535 Hand-Held Computer Quick Start GuideThe <BKSP/DEL> KeyMoves the cursor one character to the left, erasing the incorrectly entered key stroke. <DEL> key (<BLUE> <BKSP>) erases the character at the cur-sor position. The <CTRL> And <ALT> KeyModify the function of the next key pressed and are application dependent. The <TAB> KeyUsually moves the cursor to the next field to the right or down-ward.The <ESC> KeyGenerally used as a keyboard shortcut to close the current menu, dialogue box or activity and return to the previous one.The <SPACE> KeyInserts a blank space between characters. In a Windows dialogue box, the <SPACE> key enables (Ð) or disables a checkbox. The <SCAN> KeyActivates the scanner beam while pressed. For units without internal scanners, this key is inoperable.2.3.3 The 58-Key KeyboardIn addition to alphanumeric keys that are directly accessible on the keyboard (no key combination is required) and the keys described in this chapter, the 58-key keyboard also provides function keys and macro keys. They can be custom defined for each application.

Do not hold it perpendicular to the bar code.•Do not hold the scanner directly over the bar code. In this position, light can reflect back into the scanner’s exit window and prevent a successful decode.• Scan the entire bar code. If you are using a 1D or 2D scanner, make certain that the scan beam crosses every bar and space on the bar code, including the margins on either end of the symbol.• If you are using a 2D imaging scanner, make certain the red, oval shaped framing mark is centered within the bar code you want to scan.• Hold the scanner farther away for larger bar codes.

General Maintenance4.1 Caring For The TouchscreenThe top of the touchscreen is a thin, flexible polyester plastic sheet with a conductive coating on the inside. The polyester can be perma-nently damaged by harsh chemicals and is susceptible to abrasions and scratches. Using sharp objects on the touchscreen can scratch or cut the plastic, or crack the internal conductive coating.Protect the touchscreen from the following chemicals:• mustard, ketchup etc.,• sodium hydroxide,• concentrated caustic solutions,• benzyl alcohol, and• concentrated acids. If touchscreens are used in harsh environments, apply disposable screen protectors (PN HU6110). They reduce the clarity of the dis-play slightly but will dramatically extend the life of the touchscreen. When they become damaged, they are easily removed and replaced.4.2 Cleaning The 7535Important: Do not immerse the unit in water. Dampen a soft cloth with mild detergent to wipe the unit clean.•Use only mild detergent or soapy water to clean the hand-held unit.• Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents or strong chemicals for cleaning. The 7535 has a plastic case that is susceptible to
60 Psion Teklogix 7535 Hand-Held Computer Quick Start Guideharsh chemicals. The plastic is partially soluble in oils, min-eral spirits and gasoline. The plastic slowly decomposes in strong alkaline solutions. To clean ink marks from the units keypad and touchscreen, use iso-propyl alcohol. 5.
