Inst alling Cell ControllersAbout Cell ControllersThe Cell Controller is the primary dat acollection tool of the 3D-iD sys -tem. The Cell Controller coordinates the Antennas broad-cast s and then analyzes the signals returned by the Tags. To do this, the Cell Controller broadcast s spread spectrumsignals at 2.44GHz to the 3D-iD Tags via it s att achedAntennas. It then measures the tot al time transpired untilthe return signals (at 5.77GHz) are received from the Tags.Using this information it calculates the dist ance the Tag isfrom the Antenna, called Tag Antenna Distance (TAD) data. The Cell Controller sends the dat a it generates to theViewPoint Software via a st andard ethernet link. The soft-ware will, using the dat a collected from several Antennas, accurately determine a Tag s location.3cc.qxd 5/5/99 4:28 PM Page 3
Cell Controller PlacementThe Cell Controller must be located suf ficiently close to each ofit s antennas in order to account for a fixed cable length(100 feet). The Cell Controller must be located in proximity to ast andard AC power outlet (grounded) and an appropriatenetwork jack. The Cell Controller must be placed in a location withadequate ventilation.4Pin Poi nt Local Positioning Systemscc.qxd 5/5/99 4:28 PM Page 4
Inst alling Cell ControllersMounting the Cell ControllerThe Cell Controller may be placed upon any sufficiently sturdy , flatsurface such as a t able or a desk. Remember to allow foradequate ventilation.Other Cell Controller mount s that may be purchased sepa-rately through your PinPoint sales represent ative are:- Horizont al Mount- Vertical Mount - Durable Mount (NEMA rated for harsh environment s)5cc.qxd 5/5/99 4:28 PM Page 5
Inst alling the Cell Controller1. Att ach the enclosed power cord to the AC outlet on theCell Controller. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.2. Att ach the appropriate network cable (ethernet) to theCell Controller. The ethernet cable should be connectedto the V iewPoint network.3. Att ach up to 16 Antennas (depending upon the systemlayout) to the antenna port s using the specified 3D-iDCoaxial Cables (shipped separately). Att ach theAntennas where indicated by your certified system inte -grator . -Never attach the Antenna cables while the CellController is powered on! Equipment damage mayresult! -Do not overtighten the coaxial cables!-Do not kink the coaxial cables!4. Turn on the Cell Controller using the power switch. TheCell Controller will enter a mode where it continuouslysearches for the server sof tware on the network.6Pin Poi nt Local Positioning SystemsPicture of rear of CellController, with cables.cc.qxd 5/5/99 4:28 PM Page 6
Inst alling Cell ControllersMaintaining the Cell ControllerOnce operating, the Cell Controller will continue to function withminimal maintenance.Dust ScreenThere is a permanent dust screen covering the ventilationfan that should be checked every six months. If necessary, the guard and screen should be removed, cleaned andreplaced. Be sure to power of f the Cell Controller beforecleaning the screen.FuseThe Cell Controller s fuse (#313-xA 250V fuse) should bereplaced as necessary.7cc.qxd 5/5/99 4:28 PM Page 7
