RadioShadre FEATU RES Your RadioShack Two-Way Family Radio is a lightweight. palm-sized radio that you can carry almost anywhere. Use it at shopping malls, amusement parks, or sports events to contact family and triends, or in a neighborhood watch for vital communications; Your radio has 14 channels and 38 different qui- et codes. It someone else is using the channel you selected and you do not want to hear that person, select another channel or use the quiet Ieature (see “Using the Quiet Feature” on Page 8). You can talk with other FFiS radio users whose radios are tuned to the same channel and quiet code as yours. Your radio has siliceous/ch, which means you will not hear anything on a channel unless someone is transmitting nearby on the same channel. You can turn off auto-squelch to hear weaker,‘gietant transmissions (see Pages 4 and 5). Also, the radio has a channel and quiet code lock pin in the battery compartment (See illus- tration on tecing page.) Removing the pin locks the channel and quiet code settings to avoid ac- cidentally changing the settings. The supplied hand strap and belt clip let you take your radio almost anywhere. If your radio is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadIoShack store for as sistance. —__ USING THE QUIET FEATURE ‘l11e quiet Ieature lets you talk and listen to peo- ple who are using other radios set to the same channel and quiet code as your radio. This is like having a sub-channel within a channel. giv- ing you greater communication flexibility. When you set a quiet code (there are 35 to choose from) and tum on this feature, the radio transmits a tone with your transmission, This tone is too low for you to hear, but other radios can detect it. This prevents radios which are not set to the same channel and quiet code irom in- ierfering with your transmissions or reception Followithese steps to set a quiet code. 1. Repeatedly press MODE until QUIET and the previously set quiet code appear and flash. 2. Rotate TXICHANNELIQUIETNOLUME clockwise or counterclockwise until you see the code number (1—38) you want to use. Caution: - Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type. - Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard. alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Note: You need an optional desktop charger (Cat No. 21-1830), to charge the battery pack before you can use it. Follow the directions sup~ plied with the optional desktop charger to charge the battery pack. Be sure the radio is off, then remove the belt clip. Use a coin or a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the battery compartment cover, then slide the cover down and off and install the beta tery pack or batteries as shown. Note: If you will not be using the radio for sever- el months, remove the batteries. e} m1%.fm Page4 Friday, March 12, 1999 11:09AM USING THE RADIO To hear everything hap- pening on e channel, including weak tiansmis- sions and radios set to a diflerent quiet code, hold down MON (monitor). RX appears. Release MON to turn auto—squelch back on. To talkhhold down PTI' (push to talk) and speak into the microphone. TX appears. When you tin- ish speaking, release PTT. TX disappears. Display As you use the radio, the battery Icon‘s elements on the display dis- appears to show how much power remains. When only one element remains, recharge the battery pack or replace the batteries. You can cause a paging tone to sound on all radios tuned to the same channel (and quiet code. if used). To send a page, hold down CALL for up to 5 seconds. TX appears. To turn the radio on or off, hold down POWER tor about 1 second.
