someone is transmitting nearby on the same
channel. You can turn off auto-squelch to hear
weaker,‘gietant transmissions (see Pages 4 and
5).
Also, the radio has a channel and quiet code

USING THE QUIET FEATURE
‘l11e quiet Ieature lets you talk and listen to peo-
ple who are using other radios set to the same
channel and quiet code as your radio. This is
like having a sub-channel within a channel. giv-
ing you greater communication flexibility.
When you set a quiet code (there are 35 to
choose from) and tum on this feature, the radio
transmits a tone with your transmission, This
tone is too low for you to hear, but other radios
can detect it. This prevents radios which are not
set to the same channel and quiet code irom in-
ierfering with your transmissions or reception
Followithese steps to set a quiet code.
1. Repeatedly press MODE until QUIET and
the previously set quiet code appear and
flash.
2. Rotate TXICHANNELIQUIETNOLUME
clockwise or counterclockwise until you see
the code number (1—38) you want to use.
QUIET flashes for 5 seconds after you stop
rotating TXICHANNELIQUIEI’NOLUME,
then the selected channel number reap-
pearst
