3 Channel Personal FRS Radio
RadloShack welcomes you to me next generation of personal com-
munication — the Famlly Radio Service (FRS). FRS is a new Iioense—
free, two-way, short-range voice radio service that lets families and
groups keep in touch with each other on specific reserved channels.
Your RadioShack 3 Channel Personal FRS Radio is a lightweight.
palm-sized radio that you can carry almost everywhere and use to
talk with another person who has a FRS radio set to the same ire-
quency as your radio (45245625 MHz, FRS Channel 1, 4625875
MHZ, FRS Channel 2. or 4675825 MHL FRS Channels).
Your radio has auto-squelch. which means you will not hear any-
thing on a channel unless someone is transmitting nearby on the
same channel. You can turn off auto-squelch to hear weaker. more
distant transmissions.
Olher lealures include:
3 Channels — selectable with CH sun'tch located on the back of the
radio
"\0 mW ERP RF Output — provides clear communication for up to
10 miles
Low Battery Warning Tone — lets you know when the batteries
need to be replaced belore it's too late
PREPARATION
Installing Batteries
Your radio requires 4 AAA batteries (not supplied). For the best pe
lormance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline bat-
teries. You can also use RadioShaok rechargeable Nl-Cd ‘
and recharge them using an optional charger.
Cautions:
' Use only fresh batteries of the required siz ded
lype.
- Do not mix old and new batteries. different 0! batteries
(alkaline or rechargeable). or rechargeable batteries of different
capacities.
Follow these steps to install batteries:
1. Rotate volume Switch fully clockwise until the mdio clicks to turn
on the radio.
2. To remove the battery compartment cover, press the raised dots
on the cover and slide it down.
3, Install the batteries according to the polarity symbols (+ and —)
marked inside.
4. Replace the cover.
When the batteries weaken. the red Indicator flashes. a tone
sounds, the radio will not transmit or receive. and an error tone
sounds whenever you press P‘I'r or CALL Replace the batteries.
Warning: Dispose ol old batteries promptly and properly. Do not
burn or bury them.

OWNER'S MANUAL — Please read before using this equipment.
Caution: If you do not plan to use the radio for a month or longer, re-
move the batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy
electronic parts.
Important: This radio can use Ni-Cd rechargeable
batteries, At the end 0! a NI-Cd battery's useful life. it
must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact
your local, county, or state hazardous waste man-
agement authorities for information on recycling or
disposal programs in your area or call 1-500-822-
8837. Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside
collection, drop-oft boxes at retailers such as your local RadioShaok
store. recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs.
Selecting a Channel
Slide CH at lhe back of the radio to 1. 2. or E to select the channel
your radio transmits on.

hold down CALL for about 6 sec-
onds, the ring stops.
Attachan the Belt Clip
To attach the supplied belt clip, slide the belt clip onto the tab at the
back of the radio until it clicks. Then slide the cup over your belt, To
remove the clip, pull upon the middle tab ofthe cllp and slide the dip
down.
Using an Optional Safety Chaln
To use an optional safety chain (available at your Io-I RadloShack
store). clip the main to the bar behind Volume Switch.

Your radio might cause TV or radio interterence even when it is op-
erating properly, To determine whether your radio is causing the in-
tederence, turn it off. it the interference goes away, your radio is
causing it. Try to eliminate the interference by:
