Citizen’s Baud Radio Transceiver Operating instructions Sheet 1 at: (Excerpted From Main Overall Motorcycle Premium Audio System instruction Manual) AcAuTION Operating the CB radio without an antenna or wlth a broken antenna cable can result in damage to the transmittereircultry. CB OPERATION SOUELCM LEVEL, cs VOLUME AND CHANNEL NUMBER To activate the CB. press the rocker switch on the right side of the tuel tank console. See Figure 11. A light in the switch illuminates to indicate that the CB system is activated and "CB" appears in the lower portion oi the LCD display. When the CB system is iirst enabled. it automatically comes up in the Setup mode. To allow easy setting ol squelch level. channel number and CB volume, the radio is muted so that only the cs audio can be heard (that is. provided the CB signal is strong enough to break squelch). The CB signal is passed to the audio clrcuits only a the signal strength exceeds the threshold established by the squelch setting. Adjust the squelch setting with the Pl-r/souelch Control Switch on the lett handlebar swrtch assembly. See Figure 13. Driver an and Squeleh Control Switch lluhtx Figure to. Left handlebar Switch Assembly To lower the threshold to allow proceeslng ct even the weakest cs signals. push the PTF/Squelcn Control Swtch toward the rear (so-j, To raise the threshold to allow pro- cessing ot only the stronger signals, push the switch lorward (sea). The tront panel LCD ennunciates squelch level through a horizontal bar graph display. See 0 in Figure 4. Push the Audio Control Switch upward (+) to raise the volume, downward (-) to lower the volume. Remember that the CE volume is only adjustable in the Setup mode and while SQUELCH is broken. The from panel LCD also annunciates volume level through a horixontal bar graph display Wl‘llle in the Setup mode, select the desired ca channel using the Mode Select Switch on the right handlebar switch assembly. See Figure 12. Momentanly push the switch upward (UP) to increment CB tuning by one channel or momentarily push it downward (DN) to decrement tuning by one channel. it the switch ls held In position. tuning wtll rapidly increment or decrement across the CB channel range until the switch is released. When souelch is broken. the currently tuned channel is vrsiole m the lower halt ot the trout panel LCD display. it souelch ls not broken and another function is In play tsuch as (he ladle or tape drive). then the channel appears in the upper halt ot the display. To exit the Setup mode, press the Mode select Swrtch once. since the Setup mode cannot be exited while SQUELCH is broken. you may wish to push the FTr/sduelch Control Switch torward (80+) to allow processing at tewersignals, AWARNING Set ca volume level and other parameters mm to minimize the need tor adjustments on the road. Excessive adjustment while riding is an unnecessary distraction which may lead to accident and possible personal injury. To make additional adjustments. momentarily press the console mounted rocker switch forward to re-enter the Setup mode. Use the PTr/Sduelch Control, Audio Control and Mode Select SWllches to change squelch. CB volume and channel number, respectively. Once the adjustments are complete. press the handlebar mounted Mode Select Swuch once to exlt the Setup mode. NOTE While a SDUELCH bleak halls a SEEK or SCAN ansmrl'on (as described under RADIO STAT/ON TUNING and TAPE FAST WIND OPEHATIONS}, Ins Dparat/‘an Is auramaflcally resumed once the break IS removed. 13 Citizen’s Band Radio Transceiver Operating Instructions Sheet 2 of z (Excerpted me Main Overall Motorcycle Premium Audio System Instruction Manual) To turn off the CB, press the console mounted rocker switch toward the rear. The light in the switch is extinguished and lots" is removed item the LCD display, LOCAIJDISTANT SWITCH The two-position LOIDX pushoutton on the lront panel alternales oehween Local and Distant modes, The letters 10“ or “BX" appear in the lower ponion ol the LCD display to indicate the mode selected. The LO/DX pushoutton functions as loliows: Local: Fieduces the sensitivity of the CB receiver. thus allowmg quieter receiver operation (which may result in a lack of availabie signals). Distant: increases the sensitivity oi the receiver to pick up weak signals, At times, this may mean more noise and unwanted signals. LOCAL/DISTANT SWITCH LOCAL MODE DISTANT MODE Sensitivity ol Fieceiver Sensitivity cl Receiver Reduced. increased. Strong signals Weak Signals Lees Name More Noise NOTE Even with the LanaVDisTa/it Switch an LO(CAL) and me squelch closed, maintain a mlnlmum distanpe Df 20 last from any transmitting motorcycle, A! shorter distances, the sl'gna/ is too strong and results in sound distortion CB TRANSMISSION ca transmiss n is accomplished by depressing and holding either the Driver PTT Switch or the Passenger F'i-r Swlich. See Figure 13 and Figure 15, respectively. As described under ca OPERATION. transmission is ever the channel shown in the front panel LCD display. The PW bullon activates CE transmission only it the console-mounted ca rocker switch is in the ON position, Regardless oi the position of me console-mounted OB and iNTEFicciiiii rocker swtiohes, depressing either P'I'I' Switch also initiates intra-hike communications (that is, intercom between driver and passenger). cs sound can be directed to either the from tailing and rear speakers orthe headset speakers. For more information, see Headset/Speaker Control - Audio Routing and Mixing, page so. “QUIET RIIZIE'v FEATURE With the intercom system turned on, persistent road and wind noises picked up lay the microphone can repeatedly activate the microphone to the annoyance of the driver and passenger. If conversation is only intermittent, turn both the CB and the intercom systems OFF using the console- mounied rocker switches and then depress and hold either the driver or passenger PTI' Switch to temporarily enable the intercom system. Both microphones are active when one or both switches are depressed. If the conversation is oi a private neiure, verily that the es rocker switch is OFF so that “n will not he transmitted ior the entertainment of the as community. CB RANGE NOTE The Ca transmitter is the most powerful allowed under Federal law, but since there is no large steel area to create a ground plane, it may not IransMit as strongly as a car or truck. Weather In times DI atmospheric disturbances, such as rain. snow (or even sunspois). Your apparent CB range can be reduced. sometimes drasticaiiy. Terraln Buildings, hiiis, valleys or any elevated ooiecis or depressions that either clock or create a longer path between transmitter and receiver will reduce or completely disrupt communications, Obstructinns Transmitting or receiving may be completely cut off under a viaduct or inside a tunnel or parking garage. Maximum transmitting and receiving range can only he expected under stable weather conditions in liat, open country. ACAUTiON There are no adiustmenls internal to the CB transceiver chassis that can he periormed without risking non< compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. Reler to the original equipment manu< lecturer for any service required during the warranty period. For transmitter service alter the warranty period, reier lo a certilied repair service. Any lreouency determ ng components, such as crystals, or power determining semiconductors, etc, should only be re- placed with the original component manulacturers part or equivalent. substitutes may result in violation oi FCC rules. 14
