Power BATTERIES Warning: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury them. Your TV requires four AA batteries (not supplied). For the best performance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries. Caution: Batteries can leak chemicals that damage your TV’s electronic parts. Cautions: AC POWER • Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type. You can power the TV using a 6V, 550-mA AC adapter and a size B Adaptaplug™ adapter (neither supplied). Both are available at your local RadioShack store. • Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Cautions: You must use a Class 2 power source that supplies 6V DC and delivers at least 550 mA. Its center tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the TV's DC IN 6V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the TV or the adapter. • Always connect the AC adapter to the TV before you connect it to AC power. When you finish, disconnect the adapter from AC power before you disconnect it from the TV. ! Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Gently press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it in the direction of the arrow to remove it. 2. Insert the batteries into the compartment (three above and one below) as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside. Set the adapter’s voltage switch to 6V. Insert the Adaptaplug into the adapter’s cord, aligning + with TIP. Plug the Adaptaplug’s barrel plug into the TV’s DC IN 6V jack. Then plug the other end of the AC adapter cord into a standard AC outlet. Caution: Do not leave the adapter plugged into the AC outlet or connected to the TV when you are not using the TV. Note: The adapter might become warm after extended periods of use. 3. Replace the cover. Notes: • The TV can operate for about 3.5 hours with alkaline batteries. When the sound level lowers or the picture becomes unstable, replace the batteries. 2 16-3050.fm Page 3 Friday, March 10, 2000 2:03 PM USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER a special cable (not supplied), available through your local RadioShack store (RSU 10005890). Both are available at your local RadioShack store. Connect the cable’s yellow plug to the component’s video output jack and its white plug to the component’s audio output jack. Then, plug the cable’s sub-mini plug into the TV’s AUDIO/VIDEO jack. Cautions: Using Your TV You must use a power source that supplies 6V DC and delivers at least 550 mA. You can use an optional DC adapter to power the TV from a vehicle’s cigarette-lighter socket if the vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative ground electrical system. Your local RadioShack store sells a variety of adapters. Notes: • If desired, fold out the stand on the back of the TV and lean the TV on a flat surface at a convenient angle. Set the adapter’s voltage switch to 6V. Insert the Adaptaplug into the adapter’s cord, aligning + with TIP. Plug the Adaptaplug’s barrel plug into the TV’s DC IN 6V jack. Unplug the vehicle’s cigarette lighter and plug the large end of the DC adapter cord into the cigarette-lighter socket. • If reception is poor, adjust the length or angle of the rod antenna. If the TV is inside a metal or concrete building, moving closer to a window might improve reception. Caution: Do not leave the adapter plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket or connected to the TV when you are not using the TV. BACKLIGHT In low temperatures, the TV screen takes a few seconds to light, or it might be slightly red in color. This is not a malfunction. Normal operation resumes after a few seconds. Note: If the TV does not operate properly when you use DC power, be sure the cigarette-lighter socket is clean and that the adapter’s plug is properly connected to the socket.
