Roambee Sensor Bee User Manual
March 2017
Beginning to use the Roambee Sensor Bee
The Roambee Sensor Bee includes a standard Micro USB connector, which is located on the side of
the device under a rubber plug (fig.1).
Figure 1
We recommend charging the Roambee battery before using the device for the first time. It takes about
4 hours to fully charge the battery. You can use any approved Micro USB charger.
Access and Control
The Roambee Sensor Bee works in conjunction with the Roambee Portal. The location and sensor
information from the Bee will be transmitted to the Roambee Portal through the cellular modem.
The Roambee portal has multiple features that enable the management of the sensor bee. Users in the
portal have the ability to locate a bee and change the configuration of the bee.
Configuration
The Sensor Bee has two basic modes: Transmitting and Sleeping. Transmitting occurs during fixed
reporting intervals which can be configured within the portal. The transmission time can vary from
between 5 minutes and 24 hours. When the Sensor bee is not transmitting it is still monitoring the
sensors and recording the sensor data.
Safety
The Roambee Sensor Bee is a radio transmitting device. Always adhere to local laws and regulations.
Switch off the Roambee Sensor Bee in places where the use of cellular phones is not permitted or
where it can create interference, for example near medical equipment that can be affected by radio
interference and at blasting sites.
Federal Communication Commission Interference Statement
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device,
pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can
radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance
with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is
no guarantee that interference will not occur in an installation. If this equipment does cause harmful
interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off
and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by Increasing the separation
between the equipment and transmitter.
FCC Caution: To assure continued compliance, any changes or modifications not expressly approved
by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate this equipment.
(Example ‐ use only shielded interface cables when connecting to computer or peripheral devices).
FCC Radiation Exposure Statement
This transmitter must not be co‐located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or
transmitter.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two
conditions:(1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) This device must accept any
interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
When carrying the product or using it while close your body, either use an accessory such as a
holster or otherwise maintain a distance of 20 cm from the body to ensure compliance with RF
exposure requirements. All wireless devices are sensitive to interference, which can impair the
functionality of the device.
In principle the Roambee Sensor Bee is water resistant, as long as the rubber plug covering the USB
port is tightly closed. If fastened e.g. to a shipment, exposure to limited moisture will not affect the
electronics. Do not immerse the sensor in water
The device is designed to be used at temperatures between ‐20°C – +40°C. Coldness may impair the
battery capacity. Do not subject the device to great temperature variation to prevent condensation
from forming inside the device.
The device includes an integrated rechargeable battery, which cannot be removed. You should not
dispose of the device with commercial waste. Instead, return it to the place of purchase or to a
recycling point. You can check the location of the nearest recycling point from the local waste
management authorities. Do not attempt to remove or modify the battery, as this may damage the
device and create a hazard.
Only use standard undamaged chargers equipped with a Micro USB connector. Avoid using excessive
force when plugging the connector into the charging port.
