Itis designed and manufactured not to exceed the limits forexposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy set by theFederal Communications Commission of the U.S.Government. These limits are part of comprehensiveguidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy forthe general population. The guidelines are based onstandards that were developed by independent scientificorganizations through periodic and thorough evaluation ofscientific studies. The standards include a substantialsafety margin designed to assure the safety of allpersons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for mobile phones employs a unitof measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate,or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is 1.6 W/kg.* Testsfor SAR are conducted using standard operatingpositions accepted by the FCC with the phonetransmitting at its highest certified power level in alltested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determinedat the highest certified power level, the actual SAR levelof the phone while operating can be well below themaximum value. This is because the phone is designedto operate at multiple power levels so as to use only thepower required to reach the network. In general, thecloser you are to a wireless base station antenna, thelower the power output.* In the United States and Canada, the SAR limit for mobilephones used by the public is 1.6 Watts/kilogram (W/kg)averaged over one gram of tissue. The standardincorporates a substantial margin of safety to giveadditional protection for the public and to account for anyvariations in measurements.myX-1a twin PCS_en_15charactech.pmd 25/06/2004, 13:3580
