Preface: Safety Information2Please read and follow these instru c t i o n swhen connecting and using your computer monitor.1B e f o r e connecting the AC powerc o rd to an outlet, make sure the voltage designation on your monitorc o rresponds to the local electricals u p p l y.2Never insert anything metallic intothe monitor openings. Doing so mayc reate the danger of electric shock.3To avoid electric shock, nevertouch the inside of the monitor.Only a qualified technician shouldopen the monitor’s case.4Never use your monitor if the powerc o rd has been damaged. Do notallow anything to rest on the powerc o rd, and keep the cord away fro mw h e re people could trip over it.5Be sure to hold the plug, not thecord, when disconnecting themonitor from an electric socket.6Openings in the monitor cabinet arep rovided for ventilation. To pre v e n to v e rheating, these openings shouldnot be blocked or covered. Also,avoid using the monitor on a bed,sofa, rug, or other soft surface. Doing so may block the ventilationopenings in the bottom of the cabinet. If you put the monitor in a bookcase or some other enclosedspace, be sure to provide adequatev e n t i l a t i o n .7Put your monitor in a location withlow humidity and a minimum ofdust. Avoid places like damp basements or dusty hallways.8Do not expose the monitor to rain oruse it near water (In kitchens, nextto swimming pools, etc.). If the monitor accidentally gets wet,unplug it and contact an authorizeddealer immediately. You can cleanthe monitor with a damp cloth whenn e c e s s a ry, but be sure to unplugthe monitor first.9Place the monitor on a solid surf a c eand treat it care f u l l y. The screen ismade of glass and can be damagedif dropped or sharply hit. 10Locate your monitor near an easilyaccessible AC outlet.11If your monitor does not operatenormally – in particular, if thereare any unusual sounds or smellscoming from it – unplug it immediately and contact an authorized dealer or service center.12High temperatures can causeproblems. 5Chapter Two: InstallationConnecting Your Monitorto a Computer1Turn off your computer and unplugits power cord.2Connect the signal cable to the D-SUB or BNC signal port on theback of your monitor.3If you are using an IBM-compatiblecomputer, skip to step 5. If you areusing a Macintosh computer, connect the other end of the signalcable to a Macintosh adapter. (The adapter is not included withyour monitor. Contact your dealerfor more information.) 4Follow the instructions includedwith your adapter to set the pins onyour adapter, if necessary.5Connect the signal cable (With theadapter, if necessary) to the videoport on the back of your computer.This port might be directly attachedto your computer, or it might bepart of a video adapter, video card,or graphics card.6Connect the power cord for yourmonitor to the power port on theback of the monitor.7Plug the power cords of your computer and your monitor into anearby outlet.8Tu rn on your computer and monitor.If your monitor displays an image,installation is complete.26735SF-900p+E  12/1/98 3:26 PM  Page 5
6OverviewYour Samsung SyncMaster computer monitor allows you to easilyadjust the characteristics of the image being displayed. All of these adjustments are made using the control buttons on the front of the monitor. These buttons operate the on-scre e nmenu, which shows you the monitor’s settings and allows you tochange those settings.•The MENU ( ) button perf o rms the following actions:First push: Opens the on-screen menu.Second push: Activates the highlighted menu item.T h i rd push: Closes the active menu and re t u rns you to the p revious menu level.F o u rth push: Closes the on-screen menu system.•The ▲,▼, and $,%buttons allow you to highlight and adjust items in the menu. •All menus automatically save your adjustments 3 seconds after you stop adjusting the setting.1BrightnessThis feature will adjust the overall brightness of the display image. Rotate the ro t a r y control to the right to increase the level of brightness, or to the left to decrease the brightness.2ContrastThis feature will adjust the monitor’s contrast. Once youhave adjusted one of these features, push the button onceor twice to turn off the display.PositionFollow these instructions to change the position of themonitor’s entire display.1With the menu off, push the        button. The position display will appear.2Use the ▲and ▼buttons to change the verticalposition of the monitor’s entire display; use the $and %buttons to change the horizontal position ofthe monitor’s entire display.Size Follow these instructions to change the size of the monitor’sentire display.1With the menu off, push the       button twice. 8Chapter Three: Adjusting Your MonitorPincushion/Trapezoid Adjust the pincushion setting when the sides of the displayare bowed in or bowed out; adjust the trapezoid settingwhen the top or bottom of the display is too large or toosmall.1With the menu off, push the              button. The pincushion/trapezoid screen will appear.2Use the $button or %button to adjust the pincushion setting; use the ▲button or ▼button toadjust the trapezoid setting.Parallel/RotationAdjust the parallelogram setting when the display is leaningleft or right; adjust the rotation setting when the entire display is tilted left or right.1With the menu off, push the             button twice. 9Chapter Three: Adjusting Your MonitorMenu FeaturesThe following features can all be accessed using yourmonitor’s on-screen menu system. Follow the instructionsbelow to adjust the features. Once you are finished making adjustments to a feature,push the MENU button to return to the main Menu, thenpush MENU again to turn off the menu.Color TemperatureFollow these steps to change the color temperature setting.Color temperature is a measure of the “warmth” of theimage colors.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Color Temperature”screen is displayed.2Push the        button to open the color temperaturea d j u s t m e n t screen.3Use the ▲button or ▼button to select the user coloror factory color.4Use the $button or %button to adjust the colortemperature.Color ControlYou can change the settings of the saturation and hue ofthe monitor’s display.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “Color Contro l ”screen is displayed.2Push the        button to open thecolor control adjustscreen.3Use the $button or %button to adjust the saturationsetting; use the ▲button or ▼button to adjust the hue.SF-900p+E  12/1/98 3:26 PM  Page 9
10DegaussThe Degauss feature will remove color impurities caused bymagnetic fields. Do not use the Degauss feature more thanonce within a 30-minute period.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “Degauss”screen is displayed.2Push the        button t oexecute the degauss function. The degaussing screen will appear.NOTE: The monitor may buzz momentarily, the image colors may change and the image will jiggle for a few seconds.These effects are normal.3After a few seconds, the degauss main menu willreturn.RecallUse the recall feature to reset these monitor settings to theiroriginal levels: position, size, pincushion, trapezoid, parallelogram, pinbalance, rotation, and clear moire .1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “Recall”screen is displayed.2Push the         button to open the recall selectionscreen.3Push the $button to select “YES”.If you don’t want to reset the monitor, use the %button to select “NO”.NOTE: If you have selected “YES”, all settings listed above will be reset. 11Menu PositionYou can change the position where the menu appears onyour monitor.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Menu Position” screenis displayed.2Push the        button to open the menu positionadjustment screen.3Use the ▲, ▼, $or %buttons to place the menu inthe position you prefer.Menu DurationThe menu will automatically turn off if no adjustments aremade for a certain time period. You can set the amount oftime the menu will wait before it turns off.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “MenuDuration” screen is displayed.2Push the        button to open the menu duration selection screen.3Use the $or %buttons to select 3, 7, 10, 20, or 50seconds. 10 seconds is the default value.D-SUB/BNCUse this menu to choose between the signal source connected to the BNC connector input and the signalsource connected to the D-SUB connector input.  1With the menu off, push the MENU button.Push the $button or %button until the “D-SUB/BNC”screen is displayed.2Push the         button to open the D-SUB/BNC selectionscreen.3Use the $button or %button to select “BNC” or “D-SUB”.N O T E : When you are finished, wait for a few seconds and the screen will blank then display the imagefrom the new signal source (Other computer). 123PinbalanceAdjust the pinbalance setting when the sides of the displayare bowed towards the left or right.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “Pinbalance”screen is displayed.2Push the        button to open the pinbalance adjustmentscreen.3Use the $button or %button to adjust the pinbalancesetting.Clear MoireA “moiré” pattern can appear on your screen, looking likea series of concentric circles or arcs. To eliminate thispattern, use the clear moiré adjustments.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “Clear Moire ”screen is displayed.2Push the        button to open the clear moiré adjustmentscreen.3Use the ▲,▼, $or %buttons to make adjustmentsuntil the moiré effect is cleared.LanguagesFollow these steps to change the language used in themenu. This adjustment only changes the language of themonitor’s menu; it does not change the language of anyother software.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. 13Display TimingThis screen displays the settings that are available to yourmonitor. This screen only displays this information; you cannot select a new setting.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the $button or %button until the “Display Timing” screenis displayed.2Push the        button to display the factory timing scre e n .3Use the ▲button or ▼ button to display the user andfactory timings.Video Input LevelThis feature will select the video signal level.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Select “Separate” if the computer issending a separate synchronization signal. Select “Sync. On Green” if the computer expects the monitor to synchronize with the green signal it sends. Refer to your computer or video card user’s manual todetermine the correct setting. 1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Sync. Input Type”screen is displayed.2Push the        button to open the sync input type selection screen.3Use the ▲button or ▼button to select “Separate” or“Sync. 15Chapter Three: Adjusting Your MonitorPowerSaverThis monitor has a built-in power management systemcalled PowerSaver. This system saves energy by switchingyour monitor into a low-power mode when it has not beenused for a certain amount of time. The available modes are“On,” “Standby,” “Suspend,” and “Off”.This system operates with a VESA DPMS compliant videocard installed in your computer. You use a software utilityinstalled on your computer to set up this feature.
