Why do we have environmentally-labelled monitors?
In many countries, environmental labelling has become an establlshed method for encouraging the ﬁammion ol
goods and services to the environmenl.The main problem as lar as monitors and other electronic equipment are
concsmed is that environmentally harmiul substances are used both in the products and during their manufacture.
Since it has not been possible so far lor the maiortty ol electronic equipment to be recycled in a satisfactory way,
most oi these potentially damaging submanoes sooner or later enter Nature.
There are also other characteristics of a monitor, such as energy consumption levels. that are important from both
the working and natural environment viewpoim. Since all types oi conventional eleclrlolty generation have a
negative ellect on the environment (acidic and climateinlluencing emissions. radioactive waste, etc.) it is vital to
conserve energy. Electronic equipment in olnces consumes an enormous amount of energy. since it is onen

What does labelling involve?
This product meets the requirements for the males scheme, which provides for international environmental
labelling of monitors. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint often by the 700 (The Swedish coniederation |
oi Proleseional Employees). Nallirskyddslorenlngen (The Swedish Society tor Namre conservation) and NUTEK
(The National Board ior industrial and Technical nevelopmanl in Sweden).
The requirements cover a wide range oi issues: environment. ergonomlcs, usability, emission oi electrical and
magnetic ﬁelds, energy consumption and electrical and tire saleiy.
