3. 1Print Media InformationSelecting Print MediaOne of the most important things you can do to assure the best possibleprint quality from your printer is to select the correct paper. Your printerproduces A4 quality output on most plain bond papers, including cotton bond and photocopying papers; it does not require special papers. However, the print quality varies with different paper types. Be sure totest a small quantity of paper before you purchase a large quantity.Media Sizes and CapacitiesTable 3.1 shows the ML-6100 supported media sizes and input capacities.* Depending on paper thickness, maximum capacity may be reduced. If you are experiencing excessive jamming, feed one sheet at a time.SizePaperLetter (8.5 x 11 in.)Legal (8.5 x 14 in.)Executive (7.25 x 10.5 in.)Folio (8.5 x 13 in.)A4 (210 x 297 mm)ISO-B5 (176 x 250 mm)A5 (148 x 210 mm)EnvelopesCom-10 (4.125 x 9.5 in.)Monarch (3.875 x 7.5 in.)C5 (162 x 229 mm)DL (110 x 220 mm)B5 (176 x 250 mm)Card stock†Transparency film†Labels†Input Source/Capacity*Cassette or Option cassette MP Tray250250250250250250-100100100100100100100-----1010101010-103025Table 3.1
3. 2Print Media InformationBasic Guidelines When selecting or loading paper, envelopes, or other special media, keepthese guidelines in mind:¥ Attempting to print on damp, curled, wrinkled, or torn paper can causepaper jams and poor print quality.¥ Use cut-sheet paper only. You cannot use multipart paper.¥ Use only high quality, copier grade paper. Avoid paper with embossedlettering, perforations, or texture that is too smooth or too rough.¥ Colored paper should be of the same high quality as white photocopypaper. The pigments must withstand the printerÕs fusing temperatureof 400oF (205oC) for 0.1 second without deterioration. Do not use paperwith a colored coating that was added after the paper was produced.¥ Preprinted forms must be printed with nonflammable, heat-resistantinks that do not melt, vaporize, or release hazardous emissions whensubject to the printerÕs approximately 400oF (205oC) fusing temperaturefor 0.1 second.¥ Store paper in its ream wrapper until ready to use. Place cartons on pallets or shelves, not on the floor. Do not place heavy objects on top ofthe paper, whether it is packaged or unpackaged. Keep it away frommoisture, or other conditions that can cause it to wrinkle or curl.
3. 3Print Media InformationHow To Adjust Paper GuidesLENGTH GUIDESThere are two main guides and one auxiliary guide for adjusting paperlength. Please refer to the diagram below. One of main guides is for legal,A4, or folio size. The other is for letter (LTR), executive (EXEC), or B5 sizepaper. It is recommended that you use the auxiliary guide on the upperright corner of the cassette, in conjunction with the appropriate main guide, when loading letter size paper. To adjust for legal, or folio size paper, squeeze the right guide, then slidethe guide until it lightly rests against the edge of the paper stack.Use for letter, executive, B5 size paperUse for A4, legal, Folio size paperAuxiliary guide for lettersize paperTo adjust for letter (LTR), executive (EXEC), JIS B5, or ISO B5 size paper, squeeze the left guide and slide it until it lightly rests against the paperstack.

3. 5Print Media InformationUsing the MP(Multi-Purpose) TrayThe MP tray is located in the front of your printer. It can be closed whenyou are not using it, making the printer more compact. The MP tray can hold several sizes and types of paper, such as transparencies, post cards, note cards, and envelopes. You may also wantto use the MP tray for single page print jobs on letterhead, colored paperfor use as separator sheets, or other special paper you do not keep in apaper cassette. You can load approximately 100 sheets of paper, 10 envelopes, 30 transparencies, or 25 paper labels at a time. Print material is loadedface up in the MP tray. When you print from the MP tray, you must select the paper source fromyour software application, and then select the paper size and type fromthe software application for the print material you have loaded.MP Tray Guidelines¥ Load only one size of paper or envelopes at a time in the MP tray.¥ To achieve the best possible print quality, use only high-quality printmedia that is designed for use in laser printers. ¥ To prevent paper jams, do not add paper when there is still paper in theMP tray. This applies to other types of print materials, too.¥ Print material should be loaded face up with the top of the print material going into the MP tray first.¥ Do not place objects on the MP tray. Also avoid pressing down orapplying excessive force on it.
3. 6Print Media InformationLoading Paper into the MP Tray1. To open the MP tray, hold both sides of the tray and pull it outtoward you.2. Pull the extender to extend the tray to its full-length position to holdlonger paper.3. Prepare the print material for loading.¥ For paper and envelopes:Flex paper or fan envelopes back and forth. Do not fold or crease thepaper. Straighten the edges on a level surface.Note: If envelopes jam while printing, try reducing the number of envelopes inthe MP tray.
3. 7Print Media Information¥ For transparencies:Hold the transparencies by the edges and avoid touching the printside.Fan the stack of transparencies to prevent feeding failures. Be carefulnot to scratch or leave fingerprints on the print side.4. Notice the print materials stack height limit mark on the innerside of the paper guide. Use it as a guide for stack height when loading print materials.
3. 8Print Media Information5. Load one type of print material in the MP tray. Do not mix types. See the following directions to load each type of print material.¥ Load paper with the left edge of the stack against the left edge of thetray with the print side face up.¥ Load envelopes with the flap side down. The stamp area is on the leftside. The end of the envelope with the stamp area enters the MP trayfirst.Note:¥ Do not feed stamped envelopes. The stamp is shown for placement only.¥ Never use envelopes with clasps, snaps, windows, coated lining, or self-stickadhesives. These envelopes may severely damage the printer.¥ Load transparencies or label sheet with a paper backing, load with thepaper side down.
3. 9Print Media Information¥ Load letterhead paper with the design face up. The top edge of thesheet with the logo should enter the printer first.XXXXXXXXXX6. Slide the print material into the MP tray as far as it will go. Do notforce it. Forcing causes buckling of the print material.7. Make sure you have not loaded too much print material. The stackshould be under the stack height limit mark. The print material bucklesif you load a stack that is too deep or push the stack in too far.8. Slide the paper width guide to the left until it lightly touches thestack of print material. Do not bend the print material.
