Congratulations! You have just purmased a T0095 approved and labelled Droduvl!
Your choice has provided you with a product developed lor professional use.
Your purchase has also contributed to reducing the burden on the environment and to
the runher development of environmentaliyadapted electronic products.
Why do we have envlronmentaIIy-labelled monitors?
In many oountrles, environmental labelling has become an established method for encouraging the adaplallon of
goods and services to the environmenLTlte maln problem as tar as monitors and other eiectrontc equipment are
concerned is that environmentally hanniut aubstances are used both in the products and during their manufaclnie.
smce it has not been possible so tor for the moiorlty oi electronic equipment to be recycled In a salislavlary way,
most oi theee potentially damaalng substances sooner or later enter Nature,
There are also other oharacterislics of a monitor. such as energy consumplion levels. that are Important from both
the working and natural environment viewpoints. Since all types at conventional electricity generation have a
negative eitect on the environment (acidic and climate-Influencing emissions. radioactive waste, etc.) it is vital to
conserve energy. Eledronlc equipment In emcee consumes an enormous antounl or energy. since it is often
routlneiy leit running conhnuously.
What does labelling Involve?
This product meets the requirements for the T0095 scheme, which provides ror inlemafional environmental ’
labehlng of monitors. The labelling scheme was developed as a 10th alert by the TCO (The Swedish Confederation
of Professional Employees), Naturekyddsforeningen (The Swedlsh Society for Nature Conservation) and NUTEK
(The National Board for Industrial and Technical Development in Sweden).
The requirements cover a wide range of Issues: environment. ergonomics, usablllty, emlssion of electrical and
magnetic fields, energy consumpllon and electrical and fire safety
The environmental demands concern among other things restrictions on the presence and use oi heavy metals,
brorntnated and chlorinated name retardants. ares (treone). and chlorinated solvents The product must be
prepared ior recycling and the manufacturer is obliged to have an environmental plan, which must be adhered to in
each country where the company conducts its operations policy,
The energy requirements include a demand that the monitor afler a certain period at Inactlvlty shall reduce its power
consumption to a lower level, in one or more stages. The length of time to reactivate the monitor shall be
reasonable for the user. Labelled products must meet strict environmental demands, for example in reaped of the
reduction of eleotrlc and magnetic fields‘ along with physlcal and visual ergonomics and good usability.

Why do we have environmentally labelled computers?
In many countries. environmental labelling has become an established method for encouraging the adaptation of
goods and services to the environment. The main problem, as far as computers and other electronics equipment
are concerned, Is that environmentally harmful substances are used both in the products and during their
manuiecture. Slnce it is not so iar possible to satisfactorily recycle the majority cl electronics equipment. most of
these ponentially damaging substances sooner or later enter nature.
There are also other characteristics of a computer. such as energy consumption levels, that are important from the
viewpoints oi both the work iintemal) and natural (external) environments.
Since all methods oi electricity generation have a negative eiteot on the environment (e.g. acidic and climate-
iniluencing emissions. radioactive waste), it is vital to save energy. Electronics equipment in oiiloes is olten ieii
running continuously and thereby consumes a lot or energy.
What does labelling Involve?
The environmental demands has been developed by Svenska Naturskyddsforeningen (The Swedish Society lor
Nature Conservation). These demands impose restrictions on the presence and use of heavy metals, bromlnated
and chlorinated llame retardants. CFCs(freans)and chlorinated solvents. among other things. The product must be
prepared for recyotlng and the manuiachrrer is obliged to have an environmental policy which must be adhered to in
each country where the company implements its operational policy.
The energy requirements include a demand that the computer and/or display, alter a certain period oi inactivity,
shall reduce its power consumption to a lower level in one or more stages. The length of time to reactivate the
computer shall be reasonable lor the user.

Flame retardants
Fleme retardants are presenl In printed u‘rcuit boards. tables. wires, caslngs and housings. Their purpose is to
prevent, or at least to delay the spread of fire. up to 30% of the plastic in a comer casing can consist of flame
retardant substances. Most flame retardants mtain bromine or chloride, and lhose llama retardants are chemically
related to another group of environmental toxins, PCES. Both the flame retardants Conlalnlng bromine or chloride
and the PCBS are suspected of giving rise to severe health etlecta. induding reproductive damage In fish-eating
blrds and mammals. due to the bio—aooumuletive' processes. Flame retardants have been found in human blood
and researchers fear that dlsturbanoes in foetus development may occur,
The relevant TCO'99 demand regulres that plastic components weighing more than 25 grams must not contain
flame retardants with organically hound bromine or chlorine. Flame retardants are allwred in the primd cirouil
boards since no substlluies are avaitable.
Cadmium“
Cadmium is present in rechargeable badenes and in the colour-genemling layers or certain computer displays
Cadmltlm damages the nervous system and ie toxlc in high doses, The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that
batteries the colourgenerattng layers or display screens and the electrical or electronics components must not
contain any cadmium,
Mercury"
Mercury Is sometimes found in batteries. relays and switches. ll damages the nervous system and is toxic in high
doses. The relevant T0099 requirement slales that batteries may not contaln any mercury. It also demands that
mercury is not presenl In any at lhe electrical or electronics components associated with the labelled unit. There is
however one exception. Mercury Is. for the time being. pennilted in the back light system of llat panel monitors as
today there is no commercially available allemative. Tco alms on removing this exception when a Mercury lree
altematlve is available.
CFOs (mans)
The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that neither CFOs nor HCFCs may be used during the manuiaoture and
assembly of the product CFCs (freons) are sometimes used tor washing printed circuit boards. CFCs break down
ozone and thereby damage the ozone layer in the stratosphere. causing increased reception on earth oi ultraviolet
light with e.g. increased risks oi sldn cancer (malignant melanoma) as a consequence.
Lead“
Lead oan be iound in picture tubes, display screens, spiders and capacitors. Lead damages the nervous system
and in higher doses, causes lead poisoning. The relevant TCO'99 requirement pennite the Incluslon oi lead since no
