40OTHER FEATURESCommercial Advance®COMMERCIAL ADVANCE is patented technology that detectsand marks most commercials on your tape for any recording thatis more than 15 minutes long. After recording, the VCR rewindsthe tape to the beginning of the recording and determines wherethe commercials are located. It then marks the beginning and endof the detected commercial segments, and when finished, returnsthe tape to the end of the recording. It does not erasecommercials from the tape.During playback, the VCR automatically skips the detectedcommercial segments, or you can chose to manually skip them. This feature reduces three minutes of commercials toapproximately 8-12 seconds of fast forwarding in the SLP speed. You can select a background display of blue or see the video asthe commercials are skipped.Because television signals do not indicate where commercials arelocated, this feature finds and marks them through a set offormulas based on how television is broadcast today. Sincetelevision stations broadcast differently and insert their owncommercials, you may experience some variations in this feature’seffectiveness. Station promotions, identifications, andannouncements are not considered commercials, but might beskipped.
