Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standard previously set by both U.S. and international standards bodies. The design of this phone complies with the FCC guidelines and these international standards. Use only the supplied or an approved antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could impair call quality, damage the phone, or result in violation of FCC regulations. Do not use the phone with a damaged antenna. If a damaged antenna comes into contact with the skin, a minor burn may result. Please contact your local dealer for replacement antenna. Body-worn Operation This device was tested for typical body-worn operations with the back of the phone kept 1.5 cm. from the body. To maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements, use only belt-clips, holsters or similar accessories that maintain a 1.5 cm. separation distance between the user’s body and the back of the phone, including the antenna, whether extended or retracted. The use of belt-clips, holsters and similar accessories should not contain metallic components in its assembly. 4Safety Precautions Compliance with Safety Standards The Samsung Cellular phone meets all standards and recommendations for the protection of the public from exposure to radio frequency(RF) electromagnetic energy established by governmental bodies and other qualified organizations. To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious personal injury, or property damage, please follow these guidelines: Driving Using a wireless phone while driving is illegal in some states and countries. Know the laws and regulations for your area, and pull off the road and park if you need to make a call. If you must use the phone while driving, purchase and install the optional Hands-Free Car Kit. Electronic Devices Your wireless telephone is a radio transmitter and receiver. When the power is on, the phone receives and sends out RF energy. Most modern electronic equipment, such as equipment and cars, contains an RF signal shield. RF energy may affect some inadequately shielded electronic equipment. Turn off tour phone in health care facilities, and always request pacemakers and hearing aids, to determine if they are shielded adequately from external RF signals. Note if there are any regulations posted in area regarding the operation of wireless phones, and learn where you can use them safely within facility. Aircraft Turn off your phone before boarding any aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that you have prior permission from the crew to use your phone while the plane is on the ground. FCC regulations prohibit using your phone is in the air. Do not use your phone at any time while traveling on board a plane. Blasting Areas Construction crews often use remote-control RF devices to set off explosives. 8Power button : Press to turn the phone on / off. Contrast adjust button : Press to control the contrast of the display. Scroll button : Displays text and other information that extends beyond the area of the screen. Pressing the lower half of the scroll button scrolls down to view information below the viewing area, and pressing the upper half of the button scrolls up to view the information above the viewing area. Application buttons : Activates the individual applications the correspond to the icons on the buttons: Date Book, Address Book, To Do List, and Memo Pad. Earphone jack : Connects the optional microphone. Record button : Press to record the voice of the other party during conversation, and press and hold to record the voice memo. Volume Keys : Press to adjust voice volume during conversation, and adjust key beep volume in standby mode. IR port : Uses infrared technology to transmit data to and receive data from other Palm Computing platform handhelds, and to perform HotSync operations. Accessory connector : Connects your phone to the cradle, which in turn connects to the back of your computer and through the AC adapter to the wall current. Top screen : A secondary screen for phone features. Interface Tapping and Typing Like using a mouse to click elements on a computer screen, using the stylus to tap elements on your phone screen is the basic action that gets things done on your phone. Always use the point of the stylus for tapping or making strokes on the phone screen. Never use an actual pen, pencil, or other sharp object to write on the phone screen.
9Opening applications You can open the four main applications - Date Book, Address Book, To Do List, and Memo Pad - with the application buttons on the front panel of your phone. You can also use the Application Launcher to open any application installed on your phone. Tap the icon of the application that you want to open. If you have may applications installed on your phone, to the scroll bar to see all of your applications. Using menus Menus on your phone are easy to use. Once you have mastered them in one application, you can use them the same way in all other applications. -To open the menu bar: 1. Open an application. 2. Tap the Menu icon or Tap on the inverted title area at the top of the screen. -Choosing a menu After you open the menu bar for an application, tap the menu that contains the command you want to use. The menus and menu commands that are available depend on the commands vary depending on which part of the application you're currently using. For example, in Memo Pad, the menus are different for the Memo list screen and the Memo screen.
10-Graffiti menu commands Most menu commands have an equivalent Graffiti command stroke, which is similar to the keyboard shortcuts used to execute commands on computers. Four ways to enter data - Using the onscreen keyboard - Using Graffiti writing - Entering or importing data in Palm Desktop software and then synchronizing with your phone. - Using an external keyboard
11Phone application Samsung phone gives you advanced phone capabilities. Open the phone screen by tapping the Phone icon in home screen. Indicators : Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the better the signal strength. : Appears when a call is in progress. : Appears when you are out of your home area and have registered with a different network. : Appears when a new text message has been received. : Appears when the phone is set to vibration mode. : Shows the level of your battery. : Appears when the phone application is off. Menu icons Tap the Home icon to move home. Tap the Menu icon to open the menu items. Tap the Address icon to access the address book. Tap the Outgoing Call icon to open the outgoing call log. Tap the Keyguard icon for a second to start/stop working. Tap the Speed Dial icon to move Speed Dial. Indicators Menu icons
12Making a call Key in the phone number by tapping the number digits in the Phone screen with the stylus and the Talk button to dial the number. Ending a call Tap the END button. Answering a call When somebody calls you, the phone rings. If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number(or name if prestored in your Address book) is displayed. To answer the call, tap any button on the Phone screen(except END). You can answer a call while using another application. The screen alert you with the incoming call message Tap Yes to answer the call, or No to reject the call. Redialing Calls Tap Talk for a second. In-call options Your phone provides a number of functions that you can use during a call. Tap the menu icon to see the conversation menu list(Record, Mute, Silence Key Tones, DTMF Tones, Version). Standby options Calls – Outgoing/Incoming/Missed/Address/Speed dial/Voice dial/DTMF Tones Message – Voicemail/ page/text / Web Alerts Options – Preferences/ Security / Phone Off / Version /About Phone
13SMS Application Using the SMS Application When you are on the Phone Application, tap the Menu button and you can access the Messages menu and on the SMS Application, you can manage the category of SMS, Unfiled, Summary, Voicemail, Page/Text, Sent, Draft, Outbox, Web Alerts, or Edit Categories by tapping the category pick. Writing and Sending a Message You can write a new message on Page/Text or Sent category. When the Page/Text category selected, tap the New button to write a message. When the Sent category selected, tap the FW button to forward the message, and tap the RE button to reply the message. Enter the recipient’s mobile phone number, the message’s priority, Callback number and contents then tap the Send button. Receiving messages The SMS service enables you to receive short messages. Three kinds of messages are available: voicemail, text and numeric pages. When you receive a message, the screen alert you with the incoming message window . To call to the sender directly, tap the Call button. To close the window, tap the Cancel button. If an urgent messages received, the notification include the word. “Urgent!”. New message indicator also displays on the top of the screen. You can launch the message application with tapping this indicator.
14Viewing/Sorting/Calling/Deleting (a) message(s) When you open the message application, you can see the list of messages. To change the category, tap the category pick. To sort the list, tap the Sort button. It’s available to sort by Date, To/From, Message, Type or Urgency To view the detail information of a message, tap on the message. When you see the detail information of the message, you can call to the sender by tapping the Call button, or delete the message by tapping the Delete button. Another Applications Address Book This enables you to keep names, addresses, phone numbers and other information about your personal or business contacts. Calculator This enables you to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Date Book This lets you quickly and easily schedule appointments or any kind of activity associated with a time and date. Expense This lets you keep track of your expenses and then transfer the information to a spreadsheet on your computer. Memo Pad This provides a place to take notes that are not associated with records in Date Book, Address Book, or to Do List.
15 To Do List This is a convenient place to create reminders and prioritize the things that you have to do. Security Your phone comes with this application so that unauthorized users cannot view the entries you wish to protect. Lock and turn off your phone so that it does not operate until you enter the correct password. Make all records that you mark as private so the information appears greyed out. Hide all records that you mark as private so they do not appear on any screen. Setting Preferences for Your Phone The Prefs screens enables you to customize the configuration options on your phone. General – Set the date and time, the auto-shut-off interval, the Stay on in cradle feature, the Beam Receive feature and the system, alarm, and sound. Formats – Set the country default and the formats for dates, times, calendar, and numbers. Connections – Configure serial, modem, and infrared communication settings. Owner – Assign your name, phone number, and other owner information to your organizer. Buttons – Assign different applications to the buttons on the front panel of your organizer and the HotSync button on the cradle, and reassign the full-screen pen stroke command. Shortcuts – Defined list of Graffiti abbreviations. Digitizer – Calibrate the screen on your phone. Network – Configure your phone for use with a network.
16Communications Mail Using your phone, you can read, reply to, compose, and delete e-mail from your desktop E-Mail application while you’re away form your desk. IR beaming The infrared port located at the top of your organizer lets you send data from your phone –including entire applications – to any other Palm Computing platform handheld that’s close by and also equipped with an IR port. HotSync HotSync technology enables you to synchronize data between one or more Plam Computing platform handhelds and Palm Desktop software or another PIM such as Microsoft Outlook. To synchronize data, you must connect your phone and Palm Desktop software. You can synchronize your data either directly or indirectly. Direct methods include placing your phone in the cradle attached to your computer, or using infrared communications. Indirect methods include using a modem, or using network HotSync technology.
