A Gemng to Know Your PhonB Getting In Knnw Your Phone 0 END/ (D Key 9 Connector This is where you connect your charging dewce. it is also used to connect ear-microphone which includes an earpiece and microphone in a convenient light weight unit so you can converse without using your hands This key performs several important functions: 0 Press and hoidto turn on your phone 0 Press and hoid to turn off your phone 0 Press this key to disconnect a cail or to return to Standby mode from any menu. 0 Gentiy pry open the top of the cover to expose the connector 9 Speaker Speaker for listening to voice conversations and voice dialing prompts Charging the Battery Vour phone comes with a builtrin, rechargeable battery. You must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. Note: Only use Samsung-approved chargers. These chargers are designed to maximize battery life. Using other chargers will invalidate your warranty and may cause damage as well. Checking the Battery Level Vou can tell whether or not your battery needs to be recharged by checking the (E indicator (it's located in the upper-right corner of the display). The presence 01 all three bars indicates a full charge, two bars indicates a smaller charge, and one bar indicates an even smaller charge. No bars lthe battery icon is empty! means your battery must be charged, When the battery charge level is almost empty, the battery sensor blinks an empty battery iconl n n ) and sounds a tone. The Empty Battery Icon Two to three minutes before the battery charge level gets too low to operate the phone. the battery sensor will let you know by blinking an empty battery icon ( n R ). sounding a tone, and displaying a warning Ehulglng the Battery message. If you continue to operate the phone without charging. the phone will turn off automatically (after the two to three minute delay). If this happens. your wireless call will be ended, But if you plug into a charging device. you can continue your call. Be sure to monitor the battery strength icon and make sure your battery is adequately charged Charging with the Travel Charger The supplied travel charger allows you to charge your phone’s battery from a standard wall outlet. Also. using the travel charger allows you to make a phone call while the battery is charging The travel charger will fully charge an "empty“ battery in about xxx hours. Here’s how to do it 1, Plug the travel charger into the wall and the other end of the cable into the connector at Ute side of the phone. The battery will begin charging. Make a phone call anytime you’d like. The travel charger will continue charging the battery even when you are making phone calls ! 4. For the absolute fastest charging time turn the phone off while the battery is charging. The battery charges fastest when the phone is turned offr Using Ear- microphone With the earphone. you can talk without using your hands When you connect the earphone to the connector at the left side of the phone the ear microphone operates in the same way as the phone’s speaker and microphone The button on the earphone allows you to answer or end a call without pressing a button on the phone, If you receive a second call, press the button to end the first call and answer the second call. None: You can use the ear-microphone while the phone is charging. When a signal is found the Till icon appears and your phone enters Standby mode The Standby mode screen is shown below and always contains the following four things- FII' 0 Signal strength indicator m . 0 Battery strength indicator , 0 Current time 0 Current date You can make and receive calls now. 1umlng yum Phone on and off Turning It Off To turn your phone oft, press and hold 8 until the power off graphics begin to play. The power off sounds will then play and the display goes blank. Notice that when the phone is off, nothing is displayed on the screen, and the backlight is off Mole: If your phone is on and 8 is pressed for less than one second, the phone will not turn oil. This feature helps keep your phone from being accidentally turned on. Your Phone’s Modes Standby Mode Standby is the most basrc state of your phone, The phone goes into Standby mode soon after you tum it on, or if your phone is on, whenever you briefly press 3 When your phone is in Standby mode, you will see the time/date and the active top line icons. Press 3 at any time to return to Standby mode, but be careful; if you're on a call when you press 5“, you'll return to Standby mode but you’ll also disconnect the call, Press 6 several times or hold it down to return to Standby mode without ending a call, The Main Menu is accesseduwhen you are in Standby mode by pressing é See “(our Phone‘s Main Menu‘ on page KXK for a listing oi the Main Menu items Talk Mode Vou can place and answer calls only when your phone is powered on. Your Phone's Mods Power Save Mode Your phone comes with a Power Save feature that will automatically be activated it your phone is unable to find a signal after is minutes of searching While this feature is active, the phone's battery charge is conserved The phone Will automatically recheck for a signal periodically A message on the display will let you know when your phone is operating in Power Save mode The Top Line of the Dbphy Display indicators (or icons) appear across the top of your phone's display screen. Four lines indicate maximum strength, and one line indicates least strength. f 9 Service indicator: This icon indicates a call is in progress If there is trouble with signal strength, this indicator will have a diagonal line through it. The Top Lin- ur the Dlsplay 6 Vibrating Ringer: This icon indicates that an incoming call will vibrate the phone rather than ring it This feature can be used for quiet situations where you don't want your ringer to disturb others or for loud situations where the ringer cannot be heard. 0 Battery strength This icon is always displayed when your phone is on and shows the level of your battery charge The more black bars you see. the greater the charge, When the battery becomes very low an empty box appears and the phone flashes an alert, this indicates your phone is about to turn itself off. Basic Voice Call Functions Entering Phone Number i In Standby mode, press the navrgation key O to display the on-screen number pad 2. Making a Voioe Call 1. Enter the phone number (up to 32 digitsl. For details, see page xx. 2. Press 13 at the right side of the phone. The phone places the call to the entered phone number. You can also make voice calls: 0 From your Phone Book (see " Shortcuts to Memory Dialing" on page xx), 0 From your Call Logs list (see “ Reviewing Outgoing. Incoming. or Missed Calls“ on page xx). 0 By using One. Two- or Three-Touch Dialing isee “Shortcuts to Memory Dialing" on page xx). Bash: Voice Call Funcrl Ending a Call To end a call, press 8. If you end a call. the call time (length of the call] displays. along With the name and number of the called party lif available). Also. if the number is not stored in your Phone Book. your phone prompts you to save the number. If you do nothing. the phone automatically returns to Standby mode after approximately ten seconds. Incoming Call Notification Your phone signals an incoming call or message in the foliowrng ways: 0 The backlight illuminates 0 The ringer sounds (unless you have set the ringer to Vibrate or Off]. Incoming call notification continues until one of the following events occurs: 0 You answer the call. 0 You press 8 to silence the ringer before answering the call. 0 The calling party ends the call. 0 The call is sent to Voicemail. Your phone provides the following voice call notification features: 0 Six ring volume settings including Vibrate. Off, and irBeep. 0 Nine unique ring types and four melody tones isee ' Ringer Type Setting for Voice Calls“ on page xx). Basic Volne Cull Funmms 0 Name display with Caller ID (if the name is programmed into your Phone Book). 0 Automatic storage of an incoming calls information in the Call Logs (the last 10 calls you answered are stored in the Incoming Call logs and the last 10 calls you missed are stored in the Missed Call Logs). See “Missed Calls" on page xx. Redi ing Calls To redial the last call you made, press 3 twice. Vou can also easily redial any of your last ten incoming. outgoing or missed calls by accessrng the Call Logs listings (see ' Reviewing Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed Calls' on page xx]. Answering a Call There are two ways to answer an incoming call. They're all easy. so 0 Press D , 0 Press any key except 8 (when the Any Key Answer menu option is selected.) 5m Vour phone is preset to answer when you press D Vou can easily change how your phone answers by setting the Call Answer feature as explained here: 1. Press 6 to display the Main Menu. Basic Voloe call Functions 2. Slide Q down to scroll to Setup. then press Q to confirm it. 3, Slide Q down to scroll to Call Answer. then press 6) to confirm it. 4. Slide @ up or down to toggle between Any Key. orSEND key. 5. Press G to save the setting. Automatic Call Answer Your phone contains an automatic answer feature for use with the optional Hands-Free Car Kit. If your phone is installed in the Handerree Car Kit cradle. and this feature is turned on. then an incoming call will be answered automatically, Here‘s how to set this feature, 1, Press é to display the Main Menu. 2. Slide 63 down to scroll to Setup. then press O to confirm it. 3. Slide @ down to scroll to Auto Answer. then press @ to confirm it. 4. Use Q to toggle between- 0 Car Kit Only Ves . an incoming call will be answered automatically after two rings 0 Car Kit Only No ~ an incoming call must be answered manually. 5. Press (D to save the setting Basic Voice Call Functlnns Adjusting Voice Volume During a Call You can adjust the earpiece volume during a call using @. Briefly slide it up or down to increase or decrease the volume. Current voice volume level is displayed. To Mute the Microphone During a Call You can mute the microphone during a conversation by selecting the Mute option from the inUse Menu. When Mute is active. ' MUTE“ displays. The phone resets this condition to the default iUniMute setting at the end of your cail. To mute the microphone during a caii: 1. During a conversation, press 6 to dispiay the InUse Menu. 2. Press @ to access iUnlMute option. You will hear the other party's conversation, but they will not hear your conversation, ‘MUTE' displays on the screen. 3. To "unmute' the microphone during the same conversation. repeat steps 1 and 2. Selecting the (Un)Mute option toggles Mute on and off. Basic aneu Cult Funnflurfl Silencing the Ringer During an Incoming Call When the phone is ringing, press 3 to silence (or mute! the ringer. You can also set the ringer to remain off. See ” Ringer Type Setting for Voice Calis” on page xx, Using Caller ID Note: You may need to Contact your service provider to setup the Caller ID Sen/Ice Your Samsung phone will support Caller D as explained below. This feature tells you who is calling you by displaying the caller's number when the phone rings. If a caller‘s name and number are stored in your Phone Book. the corresponding name is also displayed. If you call someone who has this feature. your phone number is displayed on their phone. To block your phone number lrom being displayed on your next outgoing call. follow these steps‘, 1, Press @ to display the on-screen number pad. For information on entering number using the on screen number pad. see page xx. 2.Enter*y 6. 7, 3. Enter the phone number, and then press 8 Baslc Vales Call Functinns To activate Block Own Number permanently contact your serVice provider. Some serVice providers allow you to temporarily unblock a permanently blocked number, To temporarily unblock the number: 1, Press @ to display the on-screen number pad For information on entering number using the on- screen number pad. see page xx. Z.Enter.. 8, 2. 3, Enter the phone number. and then press 8 call Waiting Note: You may need to Contact your service provider to setup me Call Waiting service. Vour Samsung phone will support Call Waiting as explained below. Call Waiting lets you receive a second call during conversation. When a Call Waiting call comes in, the incoming call alert sounds (this sound is audible to you but not your first caller). and a text notification displays. Vour phone provides the option of turning the Call Waiting feature on or off. Call Waiting is on by default. If you choose to have an undisturbed conversation. simply turn off the feature for the current call. Basic Voice call Funcflnns Answering a Call Waiting Call To answer a Call Walting call: 1. Press 8 . The phone connects the calling party and places the current party on hold, 2. Press 8 again to switch between the two parties. Note: If you do not respond to a Call Waiting notification, the phone logs the call in the Missed Calls Log and then sends the call to your voicemail To turn off Call Waiting. contact your service provider. Disabling Call Wait'mg To turn off Call Waiting on your next call: 1. Press 6) to display the on-screen number pad. For information on entering number using the on- screen numbei pad. see page xx. 2. Enter before dialing the number. When you complete your call and hang up. the Call Waiting feature is automatically turned back on. To turn off Call Waiting permanently contact your serVice proxider. Basic Voice Call Functions Using Three-Way Calling Note: You may need to contact your service provtder to setup the Three-Way Calling sewice. Your Samsung phone will support Three-Way Calling as explained below. Three-Way Calling lets you talk with two different people at the same time. When you use this feature, you will be charged normal airtime rates for each of the two calls you make. The phone records each called party in the Outgoing Calls Log. During a three~way call. if one of the callers hangs up. you and the remaining caller will stay connected. Ifyou initiated the call and you hang up first. all three parties are disconnected. There are two methods for making a threerway call. the SEND key method and by using the InUse Menu. Using the SEND key to place a three-way call: 1. During a conversation. simply press 8 , The phone places the current call on hold. 2. Press ® to display the onscreen number pad. For information on entering number using the on- screen number pad. see page xx. 3. Enter the, number for the third party, and press D 4 When you‘ re connected to the mird party, press D again to begin your three way call. Basic Valca Cull Functions Using the Inuse Menu to place a three-way call: 1, During a conversation, srrnply press @ to display the InUse Menu. 2. Slide 9 down to scroll to SrWay Call, then press ® to access it 3. Next enter the number for the third party and press D The phone places the current call on hold 4. When you re connected to the third party press Dagain to begin your three way call Basic Value Cull Functions Using Call forwarding Note: Vou may need to contact your service prowder to setup the Call Forwarding service. Vour Samsung phone will support Call Forwarding as explained below, With Call Fen/warding. you can have all of your incoming calls fonnarded to another phone number - even if your phone is turned off. When Call FonNarding is used, you can still make calls from your phone, To use Call Forwarding: 1. Press 6) to display the on-screen number pad. For information on entering number using the one screen number pad, see page xx. 2.Enter., 7,|Z|. 3. Enter the 11-digit phone number (1+ area code 4 phone number) to which your calls should be ion/varded. 4, Press 5 . You will hear a tone (or message] that confirms you’ve enabled Call Forwarding, Note: Per-minute charges ma a pl for Call Forwarding. Press . 2 , 0 . then press 8 [or your service provider code) to disable Call Forwarding. Once again, you‘ll hear a tone (or message) confirming that Call Forwarding is disabled. Basic Vales call Funcunns Displaying Your Phone Number Vou can easily display your phone number by two methods. To View your phone number from Standby mode- 1. Press é to display the Main Menu 2 Slide @ down to scroll to Phone Book, then press (9 to access it. 3. Slide @ down to scroll to My Phone#, then press 6) to access it 4 Press 6 to return to the previous screen, or 8 to return to Standby mode. To view your phone number while in a conversation, 1. Press 5 to display the inUse Menu 2, Slide @ down to scroll to Phone Book, then press @ to access it. 3, Slide @ down to scroll to My Phoneii, then press ® to access it, Bush: Vales Call Funnlnns Missed Calls Your phone keeps a list of calls that you do not answer when the phone is on and serVice is available. The phone indicates a missed call by displaying a text notification on the screen. Additionally, if caller information is available, a Missed Call Log entry is created. and the screen displays the phone number of the most recent missed call Your phone gives you two very convenient options when you have missed a call: 0 Press 8 to call the displayed number. 0 Press 69 to save the number in the Phone Book To view a list of your missed cells. see ' Reviewing Outgoing. Incoming, or Missed Calls“ on page xx. 0 Press 67 to clear the ”Missed Call“ message from the display and return to Standby mode. Dropped Calls A dropped call can occur during a conversation in response to a signal fade or leaving a service area, in this case, the call ends and “ Signal Faded“ displays, Press 3 to clear the message and return to Standby mode, It the dropped call was an outgoing call from your phone. you Egan redial the number automatically by pressing D tWice. Easlc Vales Call Functions Failed Calls A failed call can occur if your phone is out of calling range or the network is temporarily busy. Vour phone responds to a failed call by displaying an appropriate text message: "Call Failed Out of Range“ or "Call Failed Network Busy’, Cancel the call attempt and return to Standby mode by pressing E or U and try the call again later. A two second pause stops the dialing sequence for two seconds and then automatically sends the remaining digits. Your phone has two pause dialing methods: pause dialing from the Phone Book (see "Pause Dialing from a Stored Phone Book Entry" on page 36), and manual pause dialing (see “ Manual Pause Dialing' on page xxl. Secret Phone Book Numbers Your phone allows you to hide a confidential number so mat only a person with your phone's lock code can view the number and name. At 100% capacity. the screen displays a text notification and rejects additional incoming messages until you erase the stored messages Messages and lock Mode Incoming messages are received even when your phone is in Lock mode. To enter a new lock code: 1. Press © to display the Main Menu, 2. Slide ® down to scroll to Setup then press G to access it. 3 Slide 69 down to scroll to Security, then press O to access it. 4, The phone prompts you to enter lock code. To enter your current lock code: Slide @ to the right or left to change the number. When the first digit displays correctly. press O to ® confirm it. The next digit blinks. This can be a useful feature for controlling what numbers can be dialed from your phone, Your Phnna's Sucurity Factums Dialing Special Numbers in lock Mode To dial special numbers in Lock mode: 1. Your Phuns's Security Features Resetting Your Phone Resetting the phone returns all setup options to the factory default settings and erases your Call Logs. All of your important personal settings (Phone Book. Messages. and Calendar] are not affected by resetting your phone, To reset the phone: 1, Press © to display the Main Menu. 2.
