The [JIRECTV‘ HighlJefinitron Receiver uses an optional RF lradio frequency) remote control antenna that allows
you to control your receiver from other rooms in your house.

l. Plug the RF remote control cable into the RF REMOTE connector on the DIHECTV Receiver rear panel,

Changes the aspect ratio options of the OIRECTV‘ Higthelinition
Receivet When you view a picture With a wide (15:9) aspect ratio in 480i
or 4BOp format, the button changes the WIDE MODE options to Letterbox,
Cropped or Squeezed. When you view a picture with a standard (4:3)
aspect ratio in 720p or 1080i format, the button changes the WIDE MODE
options to Normal. Wide, Panorama, Zoom or CINE- Zoom. When you View
a picture with a a wide (15:5) aspect ratio in 720p or 108m format, the
button changes the WIDE MODE options to Standard, Expand, Shrink .
Detailed descriptions of WIDE MODE options are given in section 2.4 or in
the WIDE MODE section of the Preferences menu
@ CC (Closed Caption) button
Changes the Closed Caption options of the DIRECTV HO Receiver. The
closed caption mode can be selected in the Closed Caption section of the
Preferences menu You can aiso change the date of the Advanced Program
Gurde by pressing the CC button when the Guide is displayed

Opens the on-screen Help menu when no tin-screen displays are open. You can
also see the help description at a menu item when that menu is open by press-
ing and holding the HELP button.

Shows the signal strength of the cunent digital over-the-air channel or satellite
channel. The signal strength may be improved by adjusting the over-the-air anten-
na or satellite dish antenna as directed by the antenna installation instructions.

4-3. Programming THE REMOTE CONTROL
The RM—Y822 remote control is a universal remote control that can be programmed to control

1. Find the code(sl lor the brand of the device you went to operate with this remote
control.
You can find these codes on pages 39—40.
2. Press the CODE SET button

3. Press the 0-9 buttons to input the brand code, then press the ENTER button.

8. CUSTOMIZATION
8-23. Remote Control Setup
Your DIRECTV' High-Definition Receivers remote control can be used in two ways. One rs IR
type, another is RF type. Let you change the IR/RF remote control receiver ID.
To choose the Remote Control type:

Press the MENU button on the Remote Control to display the tin-screen menu.
Scroll down using “V" on the remote control.
Select the System menu by pressing ‘-é '
Scroll down to Remote Control usrng “V"
Pressing " t . Remote Control Setup Wizard erI be displayed,
Choose the IR type or RF type using “A', “V“.

Press the EXIT button on the remote control to return to TV viewrng.

Normal picture but no sound.

SOLUTIONS
» Check volume levels.
Make sure the TV is not muted.
Check that the DIRECTV' High-Definition Receiver is connected properly,
Make sure the proper format is selected (see section 2-3]
Make sure the proper aspect ratio is selected. fsee section 2-4]
Make sure the video output is connected to the TV. {see section 3-5)
If you are a DIHECTV customer you can add a channel by running the
~Manual Ch. Add" from the SETUP menu or find all available channels by
running the ~Auto Program~ in the SETUP menu (see section H-7l
Otherwise, if the DIRECTV Receiver is in the ANT/CABLE mode, the only
way that you can find all the available channels is by running the “Auto
Program" in the SETUP menu. (see section 8-7)
Aspect ratio depends on both the incoming program format and the FDR-
MAT button on the front panel, Once the button for the format is set to a
standard definition (ABOi/AGDp] and the incoming program is standard
definition, the aspect ratio can not be adjusted and a warning message
wrll appear on the screen. (see section B-lZl
- Similar to the above mse, once the button for a format is set to high
definition f720p/1080i) and an incoming program is high definition, the
aspect ratro can not be adjusted and a warning message will appear on the
screen, (see section 8-12]
Make sure the batteries are fresh and installed properly
~ Form the remote control unit at the remote control sensor,
- Check if the correct operating mode on the remote control is selected
- Make sure the clock is set properly. (see section 8-9)

- If you subscribe to satellite service, contact your servrce provrder to
arrange for the password to be re-set
, If you do not subscribe to satellite servrce and the DIRECTV HD Receiver
is in the ANT/CABLE mode. enter the master password "7777".
