2 Getting to know the SOMAport

Amber The SOMApon is oooting and running its internal diagnostics
Flashing Amber The SOMAport is upgrading its llrrnware.
Green The SOMApon is powered and operating norrnally
Red An error occurred.
The SOMAport is not currently lunctional
Network Light
on The SOMAport is not receiving power.
Aincer The SOMAport is attempting to locate a base station
Flashing Arnber The SOMAport cannot locate a base Station
Flashing Green The SOMAport has located a base station and is attempting
to establish a connection
Grccri lric SOMAport has located a base station and
has established connection
When choosing a location for the SOMAport, follow these guidelines to
optimize the Signal strength
I Allow at least 46 cm (18 inches) at space around the SOMAport
I Put the SOMAport on an upper floor of the building. ll possible
I Place the SOMAport higher up in a roorn, such as on a desk or a shell
rather than on the floor
I Place the SOMAport near a Window.
I Avaid piacmg the SOMAport close to certain electronic devtces.
such as computer monitors, as this may cause interference.
I AVOld pissing the SOMAport in a horizontal orientation to protect it from
overheating

Ethernet status lights and cable
The Ethernet cable is supplied With the SOMAport.
The Ethernet Status light is on the Ethernet port This light works only if you
use Ethernet to connect your computer to the SOMAport.

On The computer IS connected to the SOMAport
Oil The computer is not connected to the SOMAport
Ethernet Status Amber Light
on No data is being transmitted between the SOMAport
and the computer
Flashing Data is being transmitted between the SOMAport and
the computer
1 Insert the connector of the power cord that is attached to the power
supply into the power lack on the SOMAport o
2 Insert the socket end or the Ac power cord into the power supplye
3 Posmon and orient the SOMAport in the location in which you plan on
keeping it
4 Insert the plug end oi the AC power cord into a power outlet.

The SOMAport takes up to five rninutes to start, Connect to your service
proylder s network, and acquire a radio signal The light on the power
supply indicates whether or not it is receiving power.
Wait until the Network light on the top of the SOMAport turns green before
you begin connecting equipment to the SOMAport.
6 Connect your telephone
If your service provider does not offer teIephone service, or it you are not
connecting a teiephone to the SOMAport. go to step 7 to connect your
computer
1 Insert the teiephone cord into the tower jack (linei) on the back of
the SOMAport.
I If your teiephone service includes one teiephone Iine onIy,
use this lack
I If your teiephone service includes two teiephone lines
the teiephone you connect to this lack wiII be sen/iced by Iinei
2 To connect a second teiephone, do one of the toIIOWing:
I If your teiephone sewice includes two teiephone lines.
insert the cord oi the second teiephone into upper lack (Iine2)
on the back of the SOMAport
I it your teiephone sewice includes one teiephone Iirle oniy, you must
use a dupiex adapter.
3 Pick up the handset and Iisten for a dial tone
I If you hear a series of tones (not a diai tone), the SOMAport is stilt
booting. Hang up and try again when the status Ilght turns green
I it you hear siience, make sure the cord ls secureiy connected to the
teiephone and the SOMAport See the SOMAporl User Guide for
troubieshooting iniorrnation.
7 Connect your computer
FoIIow this procedure if you are usmg Ethernet. II you want to connect
severaI cornputers to the SOMAport via a hub or a SWitch. see the
SOMAport User Guide
1 Insert one end of the Ethernet caoie into the Ethernet port
on the SOMAport. o
2 Insert the other end into the Ethernet port on the computer. 0
8 Activate full service
1 Restart your computer.
2 Launch a Web browser on the computer connected to the SOMAport.
3 Direct your browser to a known vaIid Internet address
(such as wvi/wgoogiecoi'n)
I It the page opens. tuII service has aiready been activated and you
can begin using your SOMAport for Internet service
I it you are redirected to your sen/ice proVider’s Web page.
you must compiete the sign—up procedure on the Web site to
activate tuii service

if you used Ethernet to connect the computer to the SOMAport.

9 Run the connection wizard

information about changing network settings.
If your version of Windows 95 does not have the Get on the Internet option
or it you prevtously had a diaI-up connection. you cannot use the Wizard
