Compliance Notice U.S. Regulatory Approvals EchoPoint MobileReader SMR-640P-101 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Notice The Federal Communications Commission has established technical standards regarding radio frequency energy emitted by computer devices. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Introduction The EchoPoint SMR-640P-101 MobileReader is a compact, lightweight, attachment unit that can be used with many off the shelf handheld or notebook computer, providing a simple wireless communication with all EchoPoint 600/640 tag product series. The SMR-640P-101 MobileReader includes the following items: • RFID Pod unit with integrated antenna, rechargeable battery and serial cable with standard RS232C, DB-9 connector • Handstrap mounting clip (optional) • AC to DC wall adapter (110/220V) for charging internal reader battery RFID Pod with integrated antenna and rechargeable battery AC to DC wall adapterStandard serial cable for communication to handheld computer
Copyright © 2001, Savi Technology, Inc. 3 Version 0.6 II. Battery Charging Before using the SMR-640P-101 MobileReader it is strongly recommended to fully charge the unit’s internal battery. Note that the unit’s internal battery is not user replaceable. To charge the battery use provided AC to DC wall adapter and connect it to the unit’s power jack as shown on the following picture. It is important to use Savi provided adapter to ensure correct battery charging and to avoid overheating of the unit. Note that there is no visual indication signaling when the RFID Module battery is fully charged therefore it is recommended to connect unit to the handheld computer to observe the current status of the battery charging. The reader is configured as a DCE device and therefore does not require NULL modem adapter when connected to the PC. Serial cable with female DB9 connector

Using the RFID SMR-640P MobileReader The following pictures show examples of connecting and using the reader with off the shelf handheld device. When using the SMR-640P MobileReader for scanning EchoPoint tag(s) it is recommended to keep hand off of the top unit’s cover for best communication range. User Properties such as Signpost ID uniquely define RFID module during the RF communication. To allow handheld to receive ‘other’ tags (beacon, alarm or interrogated by other Signpost) clear the Signpost filter check box.
