Introduction, Glossary, and Safety – Money System
FCC Labels Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
labels that identify the license for the tran-
sponder identification system. These labels
are located near each transponder, such as
on the Additional Coin Magazine connection
board, in the Coin Magazine Drawer and
beside the Coin Vault.
Feed/Cut Unit Feed/Cut Units perform two functions. They
feed tickets from ticket stock rolls into the
printer and cut the tickets to a precise, pre-
defined length.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) The Internet's file transfer protocol. FTP,
which has been used for more than two
decades, is a standard protocol for accessing
files on servers all over the world.
Filter A Filter selects data under special criterion.
Firmware Computer programs and data loaded into
read-only memory that cannot be modified by
the computer during normal operation and
that is not erased by loss of power.
Flash Card The Flash Card is a memory storage module
(PCMCIA) used for AFC machine initialization
and backup storage.
FMV See “Fare Media Validator”.
Freetext Record The application process receives input data
from the customer or agent/service technician
as tariff data or operational data. With this
data the application process or service pro-
cess generates a freetext record.
Front Door Lock See “Door Lock”.
Front Panel Typically, there are three front panels bolted to
the outside of the outside of an AFC machine
Door — the Customer Service Map Front
Panel, Touch Screen Front Panel or Screen
Reference Buttons, and the Currency Front
Panel. The panels provide information to the
customer via raised graphics and Braille sym-
bols.
