The information in this manual modifies the RS-232 programming cable used on some models of the V1500X-

SCCS System Controller as stated in the manual, XX201.

On some versions of the system controller, the pin for the RS-232 GND connection is not wired according to the

standard RS-232 and must be modified when programming the system console using a standard RS-232 cable.

To know if you have one of these units:

1. Turn the unit so that the bottom side is facing up.

2. Locate the DIP port hole and remove the black cover.

3. If there are jumpers around the DIP switch, this indicates that the RS-232 cable must be modified.

There are two options to “work around” the GND wiring.

1. Use a standard RS-232 cable but connect a separate ground jumper wire (with alligator clips on either

side) between the chassis of the system console and the chassis of the programming PC.

Note: The grounding scheme to the PC chassis may vary from one model to another; therefore, option 1 may not

work. In this case, proceed to option 2.

2. Create a custom cable and connect the pins of the connectors as shown in the user manual that is

supplied with the system console (refer to Flash Upgrade Software) except on the keypad side, connect

the GND wire to pin 7 instead of pin 5.
