The Model 4090 AuioGun is used for reading Sensus
TouchRead® System encudets, lemolfi, TRIPL pi! lid mnduies.
and similar compatible much Iype reading units from other manu-
facturers. If Lhz AuloGun is being used in Stand Alone reading
mode, the dam let up is 99 readings remains stored in is memnry
until the AuicGun is linked to an AumRead HandHeld Device
(ARJ'IHD).
ii the AutoGun is being used in cnnjuncfion with the AEHHD
while reading and the twn units are already linked, me data is
automatically forwarded to (he AR~HHD as the meters are being
read. Whether the AutoGun and AR-HHD are communicating via
a Shari range radio link or are physimiiy connected using a hard-
wire cord, the Ma units must nevertheless be virtually linked —
“instmcxed” to communicate with each other (via the built-in sak-
ware menus) by file user, The linking procedure is described in
Section _‘. Linking and Relinkingi
The AulsGun includes a law power indie frequency (RF) signal
transceiver (or communicafing with an AR-HHD. The low power
RF signal range is approximately 30 feet, so a connecting cord
between the two is (hex-elm nni normally needed.

However, there may he situations where ouiside radio signal inter-
ference may create eommunimtions problems hetween lhe two
units, or lhe meter reader may prefer using a cord.
Communimfions porls and for optional corded use are therefore
included in the design.
Charging ——The AumGun is equipped wiih memory and soft»
ware for collecting, storing. and transferring reading dam collected
from system compatible meters. Whether used wilh a cord or cords
less. the AutoGun relies on its own builI-in power supply which
must be periodically recherged using a charging cable connected
to an AutoRead communications/charging stand. See Appendix x
of this manual for charging details.
Sleep Mode _To help conserve battery power, the AukoGun is
designed to go into a sleep mode after 30 seconds of inactivity.
The sleep mode can be terminated by briefly pressing and releas-
ing any of the AutoGun’s bunons or trigger.
CAUTION - A quick DIES and release cf lhe button or trigger is all
that is needed to tenninete lhe sleep mode. Holding down a but—
(on or trigger too long will return the gun from its sleep mode and
also activate additional actions, such 3 unintennonel scrolling ii
the UP or DOWN arrow button is used, or the unit may attempt to
take a reading if the trigger is used. For more information see
