Use of cellular amplifiers with antennas having more than 7dBi is in violation of FCC regulations. WARNING: Do not power up the amplifier without a properly connected dual-band cellular antenna having maximum 3dB (7dBi) gain. Damage could result that is not covered by warranty. Step 5: Connect 12/24 VDC Power Step 1: Selecting a location for the CA-NEX Be extremely careful that the polarity of your installation is correct and that the amplifier’s RED lead connects to battery positive (+) and that the amplifier’s BLACK lead connects to battery negative (-). NOTICE: Directly wired vehicle antennas must be mounted a minimum distance of 20 cm (7.87") away from the body of any user or nearby persons and the antenna. Choose a mounting location for the CA-NEX that is clean and dry, and away from fuel vapors and excessive heat. The amplifier should be within 5' of the cell phone, and not mounted on the outside of the boat or vehicle. Do not mount the CA-NEX near the engine. For safety, disconnect the electrical system before continuing by removing the negative (-) lead. The amplifier should be connected to a circuit that is powered down with the vessel or vehicle. For vehicles, choose a circuit that is fused or circuit-breaker protected and ignition-switched (often referred to as “accessory output”). For boats, connect the amplifier to a circuit breaker or the power panel. It should not be connected through the ignition circuits on boats. After double-checking that polarity is correct, reconnect the electrical system ground. The CA-NEX works with 12/24 volt systems only. Step 2: Mounting the CA-NEX Use machine screws, wood screws, etc., as appropriate to mount the amplifier securely. Use caution to avoid drilling through or near fuel lines, fuel tanks, hydraulic lines, or electrical wiring. Mount the CA-NEX so that it does not interfere with safe operation of the vessel or vehicle. Do not apply DC power before connecting the antenna. WARNING: Use only a 3-amp replacement fuse. Use of a higher value fuse will cause serious damage to the amplifier and/or your vessel’s or vehicle’s electrical system and is not covered by warranty. Cell phone Step 3: Connect your cellular antenna 5412-P Cellular antenna For optimum performance and compatibility with cellular service provider requirements, the CA-NEX requires a dual-band antenna of no more than 3dB (7dBi) gain. Shakespeare’s Galaxy® series antennas (sold separately) offer lengths and configurations for most application. To meet the FCC exposure guidelines, the antenna should be installed so there is at least 20 cm of separation between the body of the user or nearby persons and the antenna CA-NEX amplifier Cell phone adapter cable Cable to antenna Cellular ANT Step 4: Connect your phone’s adapter cable ® CA-NEX PHONE Attach the TNC connector from the antenna to the amplifier’s “ANT” terminal. +12/24 VDC (RED) Attach a Shakespeare Cell Phone Adapter cable (sold separately) to the amplifier’s “PHONE” terminal.
