ULTRASPA ™ ULTIMATE PROFESSIONAL QUALITY JEWELRY CLEANING SYSTEM GemOro Superior Instruments 2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Congratulations on your purchase of the GemOro UltraSpa! The UltraSpa has been factory tested for performance as well as safety, and does an incredible job cleaning jewelry and more via its two-stage cleaning process using professional grade ultrasonic technology as well as high-pressure steam. Please be aware that not all jewelry or other items may be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner or in a steam cleaner. Always confirm if the jewelry or other item may be cleaned in either an ultrasonic or with steam (or both) prior to cleaning it with the UltraSpa. INCLUDED PARTS 1. Steamer fill cap (black). 2. Full size perforated removable ultrasonic basket and clear plastic evaporation resistant cover. 3. Measuring fill cup for ultrasonic and steam cleaner. Please note that there is a built-in funnel under the steamer fill cap and that water may be slowly poured into this funnel. 4. Stainless steel jewelry holding tweezers (may be stored in the rear storage compartment slot). 5. Diamond Saver Basket for holding small pieces of jewelry such as ear studs, rings, etc. (may be stored on the rear storage compartment hook). 6. Large basket with handle for holding a number of jewelry items you’d like to clean together. 7. Steam Residue Mat (place in front of steamer under nozzle to protect your counter). UltraSpa Manual 3 SPECIFICATIONS Power Voltage: 110-120V AC Rated Frequency: 60Hz Rated Power: 1000W Pressure: 0-50PSI Maximum Steamer Tank Water Fill Capacity: 10oz (two 5oz fill cups) Maximum Ultrasonic Tank Water Fill Capacity: 15oz (approximately three 5oz fill cups or to MAX fill line on tank) QUICK START GUIDE DO NOT PLUG IN YET! 1. Place the UltraSpa with the Steam Residue Mat positioned on your counter under the nozzle, or position it over the edge of your sink or counter and forego the use of the Steam Residue Mat. 2. Carefully unscrew the black fill cap. 3. Fill the measuring cup with water to the indicated 5oz mark (two 5oz cups are required to reach the optimal steamer tank capacity) and slowly pour it in to the steamer tank funnel opening in the rear of the unit where the fill cap was inserted. Dry the excess water within the funnel area. GemOro Superior Instruments 4 UltraSpa Manual 5 4. After two 5oz cups of water have been poured into the steamer tank, replace the black steamer fill cap by hand tightening. Do not overtighten. 5. Fill the ultrasonic tank with water or for best results, fill the tank with water that has been mixed with an ultrasonic cleaning solution to the MAX fill mark on the back of the ultrasonic tank (remove the perforated basket to see the fill mark). This will require filling the measuring cup to the 5oz. mark approximately three times. Note: In place of a professional ultrasonic cleaning solution, a household dishwashing soap that has a degreasing agent in it may be substituted. 6. Plug the UltraSpa into a grounded electrical outlet. GemOro Superior Instruments 6 TO TURN ON THE ULTRASPA POWER AND STEAMER flip the switch located on the right side bottom of the appliance from the “0” mark to the “|” mark. · The STEAMER POWER blue LED on the control panel will illuminate. · When it has heated up sufficiently to produce steam (in approximately 6 minutes) the STEAMER READY green LED on the control panel will illuminate. UltraSpa Manual 7 TO TURN ON AND USE THE ULTRASONIC CLEANER press the button on the top of the appliance labeled ULTRASONIC POWER / TIMER. · The blue LED within the ultrasonic tank compartment will illuminate. · Place jewelry in the black perforated ultrasonic basket and then submerge it in the tank. Alternatively place appropriate sized rings, earrings, diamond ear studs or charms with tiny stones in the small Diamond Saver Basket and submerge it in the ultrasonic basket within the tank. · Jewelry that is very dirty should be cleaned first in the ultrasonic compartment and then with the steamer. · The ultrasonic compartment will operate for a 6-minute cleaning cycle and then automatically shut off. You can shut off the ultrasonic function manually by pressing the button a second time. GemOro Superior Instruments 8 TO USE THE STEAMER · The steamer may be used as soon as it has built up sufficient pressure to illuminate the green LED STEAMER READY indicator. · Using the tweezers, hold jewelry approximately one inch beneath the steam nozzle. Be aware that the steam is HOT. · Then press down on the steam activation lever on the top rear, behind the fill cap, to release the steam. · It is recommended to use short, one or two second bursts to prolong maximum steam pressure. UltraSpa Manual 9 WHEN IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO REFILL · Turn the unit off by flipping the power switch located on the right side bottom of the machine to the “0” position. · Unplug it from the power outlet. · Allow sufficient cooling time of between 45 to 60 minutes prior to refilling the tank. As a safety feature, the black fill cap can not be removed until it has sufficiently cooled. · While maintaining an arms length distance from the machine slowly unscrew the black fill cap in the back. As you are unscrewing the black fill cap the remaining pressure will release from around it. Press down on the steam activation lever in the rear of the appliance to more quickly release the remaining steam in its tank. Remove the black fill cap. · Remove the ultrasonics transparent cover and basket from the tank. · Lift the entire appliance by holding the handles on either side. · Turn the appliance upside down over a sink to drain the steamer and ultrasonic tanks. To fully drain the steamer tank, while holding upside down, press the steam activation lever. · Follow the instructions 1-6 on the Quick Start Guide above to refill the UltraSpa. GemOro Superior Instruments 10 COMPLETE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS – Steps 1 through 11 (WARNING: DO NOT PLUG IN OR TURN ON UNTIL YOU REACH STEP 5). 1. Place the UltraSpa upright on a flat, dry, level surface. Position the Steam Residue Mat on your counter just under the nozzle of the UltraSpa. Alternatively, you may position the UltraSpa’s nozzle over the edge of your sink or counter and not use the Steam Residue Mat. 2. Assuring that the steamer is cool, unscrew the black fill cap and remove it. After removing the black fill cap, fill the measuring cup with water to the 5oz mark (two 5oz cups are required to reach the optimal steamer tank capacity) and slowly pour it into the built-in funnel above the steamer tank. Do not overfill the tank. Because there is a vacuum inside the tank, water must be poured slowly allowing air to release from the tank opening; to speed up this process, pour water into the tank while holding down the steam activation lever which is located in the rear of the machine, behind the black fill cap. Never overfill the tank or allow excess water to spill onto the UltraSpa or its power cord. 3. Dry any excess water within the funnel area. Replace the black fill cap by hand tightening. Do not over-tighten. 4. Remove the clear plastic ultrasonic cover and the black perforated plastic ultrasonic basket. Fill the measuring cup up to the 5oz mark and pour it into the ultrasonic tank. Repeat this process approximately 3 times until the water reaches the MAX fill mark on the rear of the ultrasonic tank wall. Never overfill the ultrasonic tank or allow the water level in the tank to evaporate below the MAX fill mark. 5. Plug the UltraSpa into a grounded electrical outlet. Turn the UltraSpa steamer to the “I” or on position by flipping the power switch located on the right side bottom of the machine. The STEAMER POWER blue LED on the control panel will then illuminate. The STEAMER READY green LED on the control panel will illuminate once it has warmed up and is ready to be used. To turn on the UltraSpa ultrasonic mode, press the button on the control panel UltraSpa Manual 11 6. 7. 8. 9. labeled ULTRASONIC POWER/TIMER. The ultrasonic will operate for a timed 6-minute cleaning cycle period and then automatically shut off. Alternatively, it can be shut off manually by pressing the control panel button. Using the stainless steel jewelry holding tweezers (which may be stored in the rear storage compartment slot), firmly yet carefully grasp the item being cleaned and hold it approximately one inch beneath the steam nozzle. The UltraSpa is also supplied with a small handheld Diamond Saver Basket (which may be stored on the rear storage compartment hook). This basket is ideal for holding small items such as rings, earrings, diamond ear studs, charms, and jewelry with tiny stones. Jewelry that is dirty from body oil might only require steaming to bring back its luster. Jewelry that is very dirty from makeup, grime or dirt should be cleaned in a two stage cleaning process; first cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner and then followed by cleaning it with the steamer. Once the steamer has built up sufficient pressure and the green “STEAMER READY” LED has illuminated, press the steam activation lever, located on the top rear behind the black fill cap. The steamer works best when using short, one or two second bursts. Allowing a brief delay between bursts gives the steamer time to rebuild steam pressure. To clean an item on all sides, rotate the item under the nozzle. Allow the jewelry time to cool before wearing. When it becomes necessary to refill the UltraSpa steamer, first turn the unit off by flipping the power switch located on the right side bottom of the appliance and then unplug it from the power outlet. Allow sufficient cooling time of between 45 to 60 minutes prior to attempting to refill the tank. As a safety feature, the black fill cap can not be removed until it has sufficiently cooled. Unscrew the black fill cap slowly at an arms length distance while allowing the tank to very gradually release any remaining tank pressure from around the black fill cap. To remove the remaining pressure more quickly, press the GemOro Superior Instruments 12 steam activation lever to release the remaining steam from the tank. 10. When it becomes necessary to replace the water in the ultrasonic tank, first turn off and unplug the UltraSpa. Remove the ultrasonic’s transparent cover and basket, and then grasp the appliance with both hands while holding the built-in handles on either side. Turn it upside down over a sink to drain the tank. Always take a paper towel and clean the remaining residue inside the tank before refilling, as this will prolong the life of the tank. 11. Prior to storing the UltraSpa after use, turn the appliance off by flipping the power switch located on the right side bottom of the machine to the “0” position. Unplug it from the power outlet. Allow 45 to 60 minutes of cooling time before storing. When storing the UltraSpa for a prolonged period, empty the water in the ultrasonic tank and clean it, then dry it thoroughly. Then remove the black fill cap by unscrewing it slowly while maintaining an arms length distance from it, allowing the tank to very gradually release its pressure. To release the pressure faster prior to removing the black fill cap, you may press the steam activation lever on the top rear of the unit just behind the black fill cap. Lift the UltraSpa by its handles and pour out the remaining water from its ultrasonic tank and steamer tank. To fully drain the steamer tank, while holding upside down, press the steam activation lever as it is draining. PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS 1. The UltraSpa is specifically designed for cleaning jewelry. Although there are many other cleaning applications for the UltraSpa (such as for cleaning dentures, eye glasses, hand tools, small parts, etc.), caution and common sense should be used at all times as the UltraSpa could damage the item and/or the operator. 2. Use caution: the steam cleaner releases very hot steam under high pressure. Never touch the steam nozzle or the area surrounding it, as you may get burnt. UltraSpa Manual 13 3. The UltraSpa ultrasonic will clean well with regular tap water. However, for best results use a combination of a professional ultrasonic cleaning solution mixed with tap water. We recommend any of the excellent ultrasonic cleaning solutions in the GemOro line, especially the Sparkle Pak® (see below). Note: In place of a professional ultrasonic cleaning solution, a household dishwashing soap that has a degreasing agent in it may be substituted. 4. Never place items to be cleaned in the ultrasonic directly on the bottom of the ultrasonic tank. Use the supplied basket or tweezers. Note: the Diamond Saver Basket should be placed in the perforated black ultrasonic basket and not directly on the tank bottom. 5. Never operate the UltraSpa ultrasonic without sufficient water in its tank. 6. Be certain that the black fill cap with its built-in safety release valve is screwed on by hand prior to use. Do not overtighten. Never operate the UltraSpa steam cleaner without the fill cap properly installed. 7. The UltraSpa steam cleaner may only be used with pure regular tap water or distilled water. Never add any type of chemicals or cleaning agents to the water in the tank prior to steaming. 8. The UltraSpa steam cleaner is designed to operate with a maximum of 10oz of water in its tank, which produces a dry steam. Do not overfill the steam cleaner tank. To do so will produce a potentially hazardous sputtering of water and wet steam. 9. Always dry all excess water from within the funnel area prior to replacing the black fill cap. Any excess remaining water in the funnel area will boil out from around the black fill cap (giving the appearance that the tank is leaking) until it has all evaporated. Never touch this boiling water or you may get burnt. 10. Never plug in and attempt to operate the UltraSpa steamer without water in its tank. If the UltraSpa runs out of steam during operation, turn it off and unplug it. Remove the ultrasonic’s transparent cover and basket. Then allow 45-60 minutes time to cool prior to refilling the tank to its 10oz water capacity (if water is GemOro Superior Instruments 14 still in the tank, while unplugged and cool, hold the UltraSpa upside down over a sink to drain the remaining water in its tank prior to adding 10oz of water). When removing the black fill cap after the UltraSpa has cooled, always unscrew it slowly while maintaining an arms length distance from it, allowing the steamer tank to very gradually release its pressure until fully released. 11. Never attempt to unscrew the black fill cap and refill the UltraSpa steam cleaner tank while it is still hot and under pressure. There is a built-in safety feature that prevents the black fill cap from being removed while the steam cleaner is hot. 12. Lift or move the UltraSpa only by its easy-lift handles. 13. Always turn off and unplug the UltraSpa when not in use. 14. This appliance is not for space heating purposes. 15. DO NOT IMMERSE IN WATER. 16. FOR INDOOR USE ONLY. UltraSpa Manual 15 MAINTENANCE Your UltraSpa is designed to be a very low maintenance appliance. The durable ABS plastic exterior portion of the UltraSpa may be cleaned by hand using a soft cloth and a mild household cleaner that is suitable to be used on plastic. The ultrasonic tank, stainless steel front panel and nozzle may be cleaned with any household cleaner that is designed to safely clean stainless steel. Wipe dry using a soft cloth when finished. UltraSpa Manual 17 IMPORTANT - READ BEFORE CLEANING ANY TYPE OF JEWELRY Prior to using the UltraSpa, always confirm if the jewelry in question may be cleaned either in an ultrasonic and/or steam cleaner. While some general guidelines are noted below for what may or may not be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner, the guidelines are not represented as being complete and are not meant to be used as your final determination as to whether or not the jewelry in question is suitable for being cleaned by the UltraSpa. Before cleaning any piece of jewelry or gemstone, you should consult with a professional to correctly identify the item you desire to clean and confirm that it is suitable to be cleaned in and by an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. GemOro disclaims, to the maximum extent permissible, (a) any responsibility for damage to jewelry or any other item, and (b) any responsibility for direct, special, incidental or consequential damages under any legal theory. For more information on jewelry care and cleaning, or assistance with finding qualified professionals with whom you may consult regarding the potential cleaning of your jewelry, visit the following jewelry industry websites: American Gem Society (AGS) Guide to Fine Jewelry Care http://www.ags.org Gemological Institute of America (GIA) http://www.gia.edu/ Jewelers of America (JA) http://www.jewelers.org/ GemOro Superior Instruments 18 Never place items to be cleaned directly on the bottom of the ultrasonic tank. To do so will void the warranty. Rather, to prevent damage to the tank, its transducer or the item being cleaned, always suspend items in the ultrasonic tank or use the provided baskets or tweezers that are made for the purpose. Always inspect the setting for loose stones prior to cleaning. Stones that are insecurely set may fall out when cleaned in an ultrasonic or by a steam cleaner. Prior to cleaning, carefully touch the stone with a small probe (like a toothpick); the stone should not shift or wiggle. If a stone falls out as a result of being cleaned in an ultrasonic or by a steam cleaner, please be aware that the stone would have eventually fallen out anyway. Most consider it better to have a stone fall out in a reasonably controlled environment as opposed to at random while wearing it. The following types of jewelry should only be cleaned by a knowledgeable professional: · Antique jewelry · Enamel jewelry · Paste jewelry (which is common with costume jewelry) · Costume jewelry · Jewelry containing stones that have been set with glue UltraSpa Manual 19 PRELIMINARY GUIDELINE FOR GEMSTONE CLEANING GEMSTONE TOUGHNESS STEAM ULTRASONIC Alexandrite excellent usually usually Amazonite poor never never Amber poor never never Amethyst good risky usually Aquamarine good usually usually Citrine good risky usually Coral fair risky risky Diamond good usually usually Emerald poor never never Garnet fair never usually Iolite fair risky risky Lapis Lazuli fair never risky Opal fair never never Pearl good never never Peridot fair never risky Ruby excellent usually usually Sapphire excellent usually usually Spinel good usually usually Tanzanite fair never never Topaz poor never never Tourmaline fair risky risky Turquoise fair never never Variscite fair never never Zircon fair risky risky GemOro Superior Instruments 20 WARRANTY Your UltraSpa features a 90 DAY LIMITED WARRANTY. In either case, the applicable warranty period begins on the date that your UltraSpa is purchased, as noted on the bill of sale (if supplied) or through the UltraSpa serial number tracking system, as interpreted by the factory (the “Warranty Commencement Date”). The 90 DAY LIMITED WARRANTY begins on the Warranty Commencement Date and expires 90 days thereafter (the “90 Day Warranty Period”), and the ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY begins on the Warranty Commencement Date and expires one year thereafter (the “One Year Warranty Period”). During the applicable 90 Day or One Year Warranty Period, the UltraSpa is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship under normal and intended use. A replacement product/part assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes GemOro’s property. If and when a refund is given, your product becomes GemOro’s property.
