Safety precautions

Information for parents

Please read the operating instructions and safety precautions carefully before use.

Explain the content and the hazards associated with using the phone to your children.

Remember to comply with legal

requirements and local restric-

tions when using the phone. For

example in aeroplanes, petrol

stations, hospitals or while

driving.

Mobile phones can interfere

with the functioning of medical

devices such as hearing aids or

pacemakers. Keep at least

20 cm/9 inches between phone

and pacemaker. When using

the mobile phone hold it to the

ear which is further away from

the pacemaker. For more infor-

mation consult your doctor.

Small parts such as the SIM

card, sealing stop, lens ring and

lens cap can be dismantled and

swallowed by small children.

The phone must therefore be

stored out of the reach of small

children.

The mains voltage specified on

the power supply unit (V) must

not be exceeded. Otherwise the

charging device may be

destroyed.

The power supply must be

plugged into an easily accessi-

ble AC mains power socket

when charging the battery. The

only way to turn off the charging

device after charging the battery

is to unplug it.

The ringtone (page 44), info

tones and handsfree talking are

reproduced through the loud-

speaker. Do not hold the phone

to your ear when it rings or when

you have switched on the

handsfree function (page 20).

Otherwise you risk serious per-

manent damage to your

hearing.

Do not use an optical magnifier

to look at the activated infrared

interface [Class 1 LED product

(classification as per

IEC 60825-1)].

Only use original Siemens bat-

teries (100 % mercury-free) and

– charging devices. Otherwise

you risk serious damage to

health and property. The battery

could explode, for instance.

You may only open the phone to

replace the battery (100 % mer-

cury-free) or SIM card. You

must not open the battery under

any circumstances. All other

changes to this device are strict-

ly prohibited and will invalidate

the guarantee.

tial risks to health or property

Improper use will invalidate the guarantee!

Improved data transmission

In order for your phone to be able to trans-

mit data at higher speeds, it is necessary to

have a good connection to the network.

Transmitting data can be delayed by the

process of establishing a connection. To

comply with guidelines on the effects of ra-

dio waves, you should keep the phone a

distance of 22 mm from your body while

transmitting data.

joystick to start an application

or function.

I Scroll left, right, up and down

to navigate in the menus.

2 A Call key

Make calls, take incoming calls, most

recent calls displayed.

• Switched off: press and hold to

switch on.

• Press to end a call during conversa-

tion or to reject an incoming call.

•Press briefly to go back to the stand-

by mode.

• Press and hold to switch off.

4 <>/øù Soft keys

The current functions of these keys are

shown in the bottom line of the display

as §Text§/symbol (e.g. p). (The keys

below the display also function as

soft keys.)

5 —˜ Volume keys

• In standby mode: Press to increase

or decrease the ringer volume level.

• During a call: Press to increase or

decrease the earpiece volume level.

• Receiving a call: Press either of the

keys briefly to mute the ringer.

Press and hold either of the keys to

reject the incoming call.

Changing to camera mode:

To change the phone from the phone mode

to the camera mode:

1 Flip the clamshell gently 180° to the

right (anti-clockwise) until it is on the

reverse side 1.

2 Close the clamshell 2.

The camera switches automatically to the

camera mode.

Additional information

The display can only be turned

anti-clockwise!

Warning!

Follow the handling instructions carefully to

avoid causing damage to the display hinge.

Pay special attention to the correct direction

to turn the display!

• Press to take a photo.

• Press again to save the photo in the

picture album.

2 —˜ Volume keys

• In camera preview: Press to activate /

deactivate the Flash to take a picture

or to use as a torch.

3 öZoom in key

• Zoom in the preview image.

• In menus: Press to go back a level in

the list menu.

4 õ Zoom out key

• Zoom out from the preview image.

• In menus: Press to go forward a level

in the list menu.

5 ù Menu key

• Press to open the camera options

menu.

• In menus: Press to go forward a level.

6 ø Landscape/Portrait key

• Press to switch between the land-

scape and portrait orientation.

Additional information

It is not possible to make a call when the

phone is in camera mode!

Additional information

If you receive a call, a notification will be dis-

played, but you need to change the phone to

the phone mode to accept the call!

Getting started

Inserting the SIM

card/battery

The service provider supplies you

with a SIM card that stores all the

important data for your connection.

Remove the SIM card from its holder

before inserting it into the phone.

• Press the back cover button on the

short side of the upper end of the

phone 1 until the latch comes

out of the slot, and remove the

cover 2.

• Insert the SIM card under the met-

al clip, with the contact surface

facing downwards, until it is in

place. 3 (Ensure that the cham-

fered corner is in the correct posi-

tion.) Press the metal clip over the

SIM card 4.

• Place the battery sideways in the

slots. First insert its right side

against the right edge of the

phone 5, then press it down-

wards 6 until it clips.

• To remove the battery, press the

inner clips one after another and

lift the battery from the right edge

of the phone.

• To replace the back cover, hook

the clips onto the hinges on the

bottom of the phone 7 and press

the cover down 8 until the latch

catches.

Charging the battery

Charging procedure

The battery is not fully charged

when delivered. Plug the charger

cable into the bottom of the phone

9, plug the power supply unit into a

mains power socket and charge for

at least two hours.

Charging time

A flat battery is fully charged after

about 3 hours. Charging is only possi-

ble within a temperature range of

0 °C to 45 °C. If the temperature ris-

es/falls 5°C above/below this, the

charge symbol flashes a warning.

The mains voltage specified on the

power supply unit must not be

exceeded.

Additional information

Please switch off your phone before re-

moving the battery!

Only 3-V SIM cards are supported. Please

contact your service provider if you have an

older card.

Operating time

The operating time depends upon

the conditions of use. Extreme tem-

peratures considerably reduce the

phone’s standby time. Avoid placing

the phone in the sun or on a heater.

Talktime: 140 to 400 minutes

Standby time: 160 to 400 hours

Charge icon not visible

If the battery has been discharged

fully, the charge icon is not immedi-

ately visible when the power supply

is plugged in. It will appear with two

hours. In this case the battery is fully

charged after 3 to 5 hours.

Only use the power supply unit included

in the delivery!

Display while in use

Charge level display during opera-

tion (flat-fully charged):

V W X

A beep sounds when the battery is

nearly flat. The charge level of the

battery is only displayed correctly

after an uninterrupted charging/

discharging cycle. You should

therefore not remove the battery unnec-

essarily and where possible not finish

the charging process prematurely.

Additional information

The power supply unit heats up when used

for long periods. This is normal and not

dangerous.

If the battery is removed for longer than

30 seconds, the clock must be reset.

Switching phone on/off

BPress and hold.

Entering the PIN

The SIM card can be protected with a

4-8 digit PIN.

JEnter the PIN using the

number keys. The charac-

ters appear as **** to en-

sure that nobody else can

read your PIN code on the

display. Correct with ].

CConfirm by pressing the

joystick. Logging on to

the network will take a

few seconds.

Emergency number

(SOS)

Only to be used in real emergencies!

By pressing the §SOS§ soft key you can

make an emergency call on any net-

work without a SIM card and without

entering a PIN. (Please note that this

option is not available in all

countries.)

Switching on your phone

for the first time

Time/date

During initial set up, the phone first

prompts you to check the date and

time. After that, you can set the

clock so that it displays the correct

time. You will not have to make this

setting again.

JFirst enter the date

(day/month/year),

then the time

(24-hour format).

CPress this key. The time

and date are updated.

Copying SIM addresses

The first time the SIM card is insert-

ed, the entries on it can be copied

into the Addressbook memory.You

can interrupt the copying procedure

to, for example, receive a call, and

then relaunch the copying process

from settings in Phonebook.

You can also copy data from the

SIM card at a later time (see

page 23).

The phone and SIM card are protect-

ed against misuse by several security

codes.

PIN control

The PIN is usually requested each

time the phone is switched on. You

can deactivate this feature but if you

do so, you risk unauthorised use of

the phone. To be able to use all avail-

able security codes, you must have

the PIN control activated. Some serv-

ice providers do not permit deacti-

vating the control.

"T9" combines the correct word from

the various key inputs.

#Activate/deactivate T9.

Write with T9

It is best if you finish a word without

looking at the display.

You simply press the keys where the

relevant letter is located once.

1/EA blank space or moving

to the right ends the

word.

Do not use special characters such

as Ä. Instead use the standard char-

acters such as A and T9 will do the

rest for you.

T9 word suggestions

If several options are found in the

dictionary for a word, the most prob-

able is displayed first.

Phonebook

You can save e.g., the names and

numbers of your acquaintances in

your phone as contacts. You can

save the contacts either in the mem-

ory of the SIM card (Phonebook op-

tion) or in the phone memory

(Addressbook option). The Address-

book option is set as standard.

To save your contacts, select:

clearly, arrange your entries. You

can select a group when creating a

You can transmit and receive

very long messages (up to 760

characters) on your phone. They

are automatically composed of

several "normal" SMS messages of

160 characters (note the higher

charges).

You can also send pictures and

sounds with or without accompany-

ing text in an SMS. Also, SMS does

not support all types of pictures

and/or sounds.

The Multimedia Messaging Service

enables you to send texts, pictures

and sounds in a combined message

to another mobile phone or to an

e-mail address.

Depending on your phone settings,

you will either receive the complete

message or only a notification with

sender details and size. The actual

MMS can then be downloaded man-

ually later.

Create

An MMS consists of the address

header and the content. The content

may be several pages long. Each

page may contain a text, a picture

and a sound. Remember that pic-

tures and sounds may be protected.

You can use the browser to download applica-

tions (e.g. ringtones, games, images, animations)

from the Internet.

Siemens excludes all warranty and liability claims

in respect of or in connection with any applica-

tions subsequently installed by the customer and

any software not included in the original delivery

package. This also applies to functions enabled

subsequently at the customer's instigation. The

purchaser bears sole risk for the loss of, damage

to, and any defects arising in, this device or the

1 minute beep

During the call, you (and only you)

will hear a beep every minute so you

can check the call's duration.

Silent alert

Activate/deactivate the silent alert.

You can activate the silent alert func-

tion as an alternative to the ring

tone. This function is deactivated

when the battery is being charged

and accessories are connected (ex-

cept the Headset).

SMS/MMS ringer

Activate/deactivate the SMS/MMS

ringer if you wish the phone to signal

Care and maintenance

Your phone has been designed and manu-

factured to the highest of standards and

should be treated with great care. The sug-

gestions below will help you enjoy your

phone for many years.

• Protect your phone from moisture and hu-

midity! Precipitation, humidity and liquids

contain minerals that will corrode electron-

ic circuits. Should your phone nonetheless

become wet, disconnect it immediately

from any power supply, remove the battery

and leave the open phone to dry at room

temperature!

• Do not use or store the phone in dusty,

dirty areas. Its moving parts may become

damaged.

• Do not store your phone in hot areas. High

temperatures can shorten the life of elec-

tronic devices, damage batteries and warp

or melt certain plastics.

• Do not store your phone in cold areas.

When the phone warms up again (to its

normal ambient temperature), moisture

can form inside the phone, which may

damage electronic circuit boards.

• Do not drop, knock or shake your phone.

Rough handling can damage internal cir-

cuit boards!

• Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning sol-

vents, or strong detergents to clean the

phone!

The suggestions given above apply equally

to your phone, battery, charger and all ac-

cessories. If any of these parts are not work-

ing properly, take them to your nearest

qualified service outlet. The personnel there

will assist you and, if necessary, repair the

device.

Battery quality

declaration

The capacity of your mobile phone battery

will reduce each time it is charged/dis-

charged. Storing the battery at temperatures

that are too high or too low also causes a

gradual loss of capacity. As a result the oper-

ating time of your mobile phone may be con-

siderably reduced, even after the battery has

been fully charged.

The battery is, however, designed to be ca-

pable of being charged and discharged for a

period of six months from the date when the

phone was purchased. Following this six-

month period, we recommend replacing your

battery if you experience a significant drop in

performance. Please buy only Siemens orig-

inal batteries.

Display quality

declaration

For technological reasons, a few small dots

with different colours may appear in the dis-

play in exceptional cases.

Please note that the appearance of brighter

or darker dots generally does not mean that

a fault has occurred.

Without prejudice to any claim the user

(customer) may have in relation to the dealer

or retailer, the customer shall be granted a

manufacturer's Guarantee under the condi-

tions set out below:

• In the case of new devices and their com-

ponents exhibiting defects resulting from

manufacturing and/or material faults within

24 months of purchase, Siemens shall, at

its own option and free of charge, either re-

place the device with another device re-

flecting the current state of the art, or

repair the said device. In respect of parts

subject to wear and tear (including but not

limited to, batteries, keypads, casings,

small parts on casings, protective cover-

ings where included in the scope of deliv-

ery), this warranty shall be valid for six

months from the date of purchase.

• This Guarantee shall be invalid if the de-

vice defect is attributable to improper treat-

ment and/or failure to comply with

information contained in the user manuals.

• This Guarantee shall not apply to or ex-

tend to services performed by the author-

ised dealer or the customer themselves

(e.g. installation, configuration, software

downloads). User manuals and any soft-

ware supplied on a separate data medium

shall be excluded from the Guarantee.

• The purchase receipt, together with the

date of purchase, shall be required as evi-

dence for invoking the Guarantee. Claims

under the Guarantee must be submitted

within two months of the Guarantee de-

fault becoming evident.

• Ownership of devices or components re-

placed by and returned to Siemens shall

vest in Siemens.

• This Guarantee shall apply to new devices

purchased in the European Union. For

Products sold in the United Kingdom the

Guarantee is issued by Siemens plc, Sie-

mens House, Oldbury, Bracknell, Berk-

shire, RG12 8FZ.

• Any other claims resulting out of or in con-

nection with the device shall be excluded

antee shall attempt to limit or exclude a

Customers Statutory Rights, nor the man-

• Devices fitted with accessories not author-

ised by Siemens.

• This Guarantee shall not apply to or ex-
