When the unit isvery dirty, clean it with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a milddetergent solution and finish with a dry cloth.• Do not use alcohol, thinner, or benzine to clean the unit. If you doso, the finish of the unit may be damaged or the coating maycome off.• When you use a chemical-impregnated cloth, use it according tothe directions provided.• Do not spray a volatile solvent such as insecticide toward the unit,or place rubber or vinyl products on the unit for a long time. If virus protection software isactive, the installation may not be completed properly.4Download the FeliCa Reader/Writer software from our Website (http://www.sony.co.jp/Products/felica/pcrw/).5Click the downloaded file and install it according to theinstructions shown on the display.6If an instruction requesting you to restart the computerappears, restart the computer.7Install other programs, if needed.<Tips>• If the installation does not complete successfully, remove theFeliCa Reader/Writer software using [Add/RemoveApplications] (if you use Windows XP, [Add/RemovePrograms]), restart the computer, and then perform theprocedure from step 2 again.• For details on the installation procedure, refer to our Web site(http://www.sony.co.jp/Products/felica/pcrw/).2Plug the Reader/Writer into the USB port on yourcomputer.Insert the connector on the cable of the Reader/Writer to theUSB port on your computer.NoteIf you connect a USB hub between the Reader/Writer and thecomputer, the Reader/Writer may not be recognized properly.Using the Reader/Writer1Stand the Reader/Writer upright using the tiltstand, and then release the cable from thegroove.NoteYou can use the Reader/Writer laid down. However, in this case, makesure the surface on which you put the Reader/Writer is not made ofmetal. Otherwise, the Reader/Writer may not operate properly.2Put your card on the Reader/Writer.Put the card on in landscape orientation.Notes• Make sure to put only one card on the read/write surface. If you putmore than one card on this surface at one time, the Reader/Writerdoes not operate properly.• The timing for placing the card is defined by the service you use.Follow the instructions shown on the display.3Confirm the reliability of the operation using theself-diagnosis function.1Put your card on the Reader/Writer (For details, see “Usingthe Reader/Writer”).2Click the Windows Start button, point to [Programs] (if youuse Windows XP, [All programs]), point to [Sony FeliCaReader/Writer], and then click [Self-Diagnosis of Reader/Writer].3Carry out the self-diagnosis according to the instructionsshown on the display.<Tip>The self-diagnosis program can be used even if you do not puta card on the Reader/Writer.
