This is used for multimedia storage and the HBM-30 fully supports the white MagicGateMemory Stick Duo.-Memory Stick Duo is blue and is not equipped with MagicGate. Getting started 8Draft for Sony Ericsson Internal Use OnlyGetting startedBefore you can use your HBM-30 Bluetooth Music Handsfree, you must first:• Rotate the battery door to open, see picture “3” on page 4.• Insert an AAA battery with the positive (+) end of the battery first.• Close the battery door by rotating it.• Insert the Memory Stick Duo into the slot until it clicks into place.• Turn on the HBM-30. Press and hold   for 3 seconds.• Connect the headphones, see picture “5” on page 5• Pair the HBM-30 with a mobile phone. See “Pairing” on page 9.• Turn off. Press and hold  .Note: The first time the HBM-30 Bluetooth Music Handsfree is turned on, it will automatically be ready for pairing.Adjusting the volumeYou can adjust the HBM-30 speaker volume both during a call or when playing music.To adjust the volume• To increase the volume, press  .• To decrease the volume, press  .Locking buttonsThis function locks the buttons to prevent accidental operation when you carry the HBM-30.To lock the buttons• Press and hold   for 3 seconds to lock the HBM-30 buttons, except   and  . 9 Pairing Draft for Sony Ericsson Internal Use Onlychange battery to prevent corruption of your Memory Stick Duo.Note: Removal of the battery during operation will delete all unsaved user settings and may corrupt the content of your memory stick.PairingYou can connect your HBM-30 to your mobile phone or any device with Bluetooth wireless technology that supports the headset profile.Pairing the HBM-30 with a phoneYou pair the HBM-30 with the phone by adding it to a list of paired devices in the phone. The two devices then recognize each other when they connect. Once you have paired your HBM-30 with the phone, you do not need to pair it again until you want to use it with another device.When the HBM-30 is paired to more than one phone, an incoming call is accepted from each of the paired phones and an outgoing call is performed via the preferred phone (i.e. the last paired phone).To pair the HBM-30 with a Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone1. With the HBM-30 turned off, press and hold   and  until the display shows Pairing mode. Press  .Enter the HBM-30 passkey (0000),  . The phone pairing procedure starts.4. You may now replace the given HBM-30 name with a personal name tag,  . When pairing has been completed, the icon   appears and the text Pairable disappears from the display.Note: To pair the HBM-30 with another make of phone, see the phone’s user documentation on pairing. The HBM-30 passkey is 0000.Resetting the HBM-30HBM-30 can be reset to its default settings. Insert the MagicGate Memory Stick Duo into the slot. If the memory stick is inserted correctly the display shows Read MP3 or Read ATRAC3 according to current preferred format. See “Changing settings” on page 12.2. To remove the memory stick, slightly push and release the memory stick. The display shows MS out for 3 seconds. See picture “3” on page 4Note: With a Duo adapter the memory stick can be used in a standard sized memory stick slot.To listen to music1. Insert a recorded Memory Stick Duo into your HBM-30.2. Press   to start or pause playback. The display shows for ATRAC3 the track title and the artist name as stored on memory stick. For MP3 it shows the track title and artist name (if available otherwise filemane). In playback mode, press MENU to enter the playback menu mode. Edit is displayed.Note: You can edit ATRAC3 track titles, but not MP3 track titles. An ATRAC3 track title can be 128 characters.2. No.3. Use  or  to choose Yes, and press  . All existing files and directories on the memory stick will be deleted and new \MP3 and \HIFI directories will automatically be created.4. Press MENU to leave playback menu.Note:  Use this function only when your MagicGate Memory Stick contents have accidentally become corrupted. All your music will be lost, but you can use your memory stick to record new music tracks.Record musicThe HBM-30 supports recording from analog sound sources.In recording mode, the music from your sound source is also available in the headphones.Recording is only possible in ATRAC3 music format on MagicGate Memory Stick Duo. If other makes of memory stick is used, the HBM-30 will remain in recording mode but will not record tracks.Note: Please do not remove the battery while HBM-30 is active. Your memory stick contents might become corrupted.To record with default settings1. Connect your HBM-30 to a music source using the recording cable.2. Press and hold REC for up to 4 seconds and the HBM-30 changes to recording mode. Press   or   to adjust the recording level.4. Press   to start recording. The HBM-30 will assign a default track title and the display shows the current recording time.Note:  It is not possible to adjust recording level during recording, but it is possible to adjust the listening volume.5. Press   to finish recording and go back to recording mode. The display shows Busy for a few seconds.6. Press and hold REC again and the HBM-30 will change back to playback mode. The music volume will then automatically change to default volume.Note: To prevent disruption of your recording, it is not possible to receive incoming calls or start outgoing calls with the HBM-30 during recording.Changing record settingsBefore actual recording is started it is possible to select the recording quality level. The highest quality level delivers near CD quality but requires more storage capacity. The user can select the following bit rates for a Memory Stick Duo. For a 64 MB Memory Stick Duo following recording times are possible:To change quality level1. While in record mode, press MENU.2. Scroll to Quality with the  , and press  .Use  or  to choose Lo (low), Md (medium), or Hi (high), and press  . 3. Press MENU to go back to record mode.Selecting auto track markIn order to record multiple tracks on the Memory Stick Duo in one recording session, for example, a complete CD, the HBM-30 supports auto track mark. When a period of silence is detected between tracks, the HBM-30 regards this as a track change. Press MENU to go back to record mode.Store musicFile structureYou can copy tracks to and from the Memory Stick Duo using a computer equipped with Memory Stick or Memory Stick Duo drive. In order to play MP3 files from the memory stick, the files must be stored in a dedicated directory of the memory stick called “\MP3”.Note: You should not change the contents of any other directory than “\MP3”.Because of the technical differences between how ATRAC3 and MP3 files are stored on the memory stick, only one format can be handled at the time. Based on user preference, the HBM-30 starts in the selected format (ATRAC3 or MP3). If no files of the preferred format are found, but if files of the other format are detected, the HBM-30 automatically switches to the other format. Playback of ATRAC3 files is the default setting. Handle phone calls 16Draft for Sony Ericsson Internal Use OnlyNote: To avoid damaging data, do not release the memory stick or unplug the recording cable during reading or writing data.Handle phone callsOnce you have paired the HBM-30 with your phone, you can make and receive calls using the HBM-30 as long as it is turned on and within range of the phone –up to 10 m (30 ft) outdoors or up to 5 m (15 ft) indoors with no solid objects in between. For best performance, use the HBM-30 and phone in the same room. See picture “4” on page 4.If your Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone supports voice dialling and it is activated, you can use this feature with the HBM-30.Note: Always make sure the Bluetooth operation mode in the phone is on when using the Bluetooth Music Handsfree.Making and answering callsPhone functionality is still available when the HBM-30 is playing music. You can make and answer calls using the buttons on the HBM-30. Press   for at least 2 seconds to enable voice dialling.2. After the beeps, perform voice dialling as you normally would.3. End the call by pressing  . The HBM-30 will start playing again. The display will show track information, followed by elapsed time of the current track.Note: For more information on voice dialling, please refer to the phone’s user documentation.To answer a call1. When the HBM-30 receives a call, the HBM-30 pauses the music and rings. Press   to accept the call.Note:  If the phone rings first, wait until the HBM-30 rings, then press .2. Press   to end the call. If the HBM-30 was playing music, it will start playing again. The display will show track information, followed by elapsed time of the current track.Note: If your phone supports Calling Line Identification (CLI), the display of your HBM-30 will show the telephone number of the person calling you.To answer a second call• You have to use the phone keypad to answer and handle a second call, but you can still use the HBM-30 for talking and listening. You cannot use the HBM-30 buttons during a second call. Refer to the phone's user documentation on how to handle more than one call simultaneously.To reject a call• Press  . The HBM-30 will continue playing.Transferring sound from phone to HBM-30Depending on the type of phone, you can transfer the sound to the HBM-30 from the phone during a call. The HBM-30 has to be on, paired with the phone, and within range.To transfer the sound to the HBM-30• During a call, press  . A repeated beep is heard while the microphone is muted.• Press and release both   and   again to resume the conversation.TroubleshootingNo sound contact between HBM-30 and phoneThe HBM-30 and the phone you are using with it have to be:• paired to recognize each other• within range of each other. Make sure that there are no solid objects, such as walls or furniture, in between the HBM-30 and the phone.• Bluetooth operation mode in the phone has to be on.Note: If the HBM-30 has been in pairing mode for more than 10 minutes but no pairing is completed, the HBM-30 leaves the pairing mode and the Bluetooth function can not be used.Some functions do not work according to the instructionsIf you notice that you cannot make use of all the features in the HBM-30, please refer to the phone´s user documentation, or check with a Sony Ericsson service partner. Insert a new battery.Memory Stick Duo• The HBM-30 supports white MagicGate Memory Stick Duo for both playback and recording. • The HBM-30 supports blue Memory Sticks only for playback of MP3 files.• When recording make sure the memory stick is not locked. Check the lock function on the back of the memory stick. See picture “3” on page 4• If the Memory Stick Duo runs out of memory (MS FULL is displayed), you can erase tracks. Check that both ATRAC3 and MP3 tracks are deleted. See page 12.ATRAC3 and MP3 files• If an 8 character MP3 file name shows in the display, there is no track title added for the MP3 file. See “Changing settings” on page 12.• The HBM-30 does not support playback of MP3 files recorded at a bitrate higher than 192 kbps.Unreadable Memory Stick   If the display shows Wrong MS, the contents of your MagicGate Memory Stick Duo may have become corrupted. Use the format function to recover your memory stick, see page 13. Your memory stick can be used again for ATRAC3 recording or for storage of MP3 tracks.    Use this function only when your MagicGate Memory Stick contents have accidentally become corrupted. Use of non-original accessories may result in loss of performance, damage to the product, fire, electric shock or injury. The warranty does not cover product failures which have been caused by use of non-original accessories.• Do not attempt to disassemble your product. Remove the battery.Radio frequency exposureYour HBM-30 is a radio transmitter and receiver. When in operation, it communicates with a Bluetooth equipped mobile device by receiving and transmitting radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (microwaves) in the frequency range 2400 to 2500 MHz. The output power of the radio transmitter is low, 0.001 watt.Your HBM-30 is designed to operate in compliance with the RF exposure guidelines and limits set by national authorities and international health agencies when used with any compatible Sony Ericsson or Ericsson mobile phone.DrivingCheck the laws and regulations on the use of mobile phones, handsfree equipment, and music players in the areas where you drive. Always give full attention to driving and pull off the road and park before making or answering a call if driving conditions so require.RF energy may affect some electronic systems in motor vehicles such as car stereo, safety equipment etc. Check with your vehicle manufacturer's representative to be sure that your mobile phone or HBM-30 will not affect the electronic systems in your vehicle.Electronic equipmentMost modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF energy. However, certain electronic equipment is not, therefore:Do not use your HBM-30 near medical equipment without requesting permission. If you are using any personal medical devices, e.g. a pacemaker or a hearing aid, please read in your mobile phone's User's Guide for further information.AircraftTurn your HBM-30 OFF before boarding any aircraft. Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives.Potentially explosive atmospheresTurn off your electronic device when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It is rare, but your electronic device could generate sparks. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often, but not always, clearly marked. PlacingSony Ericsson recommends that the HBM-30 is worn in positions where it will not be subject to pressure since such pressure may result in bodily injury or damage to the product.ChildrenDo not allow children to play with your HBM-30 since it contains small parts that could become detached and create a choking hazard.Emergency callsIMPORTANT!This HBM-30 and the electronic device connected to the hands- free operate using radio signals, cellular and landline networks as well as user-programmed functions, which cannot guarantee connection under all conditions. Therefore you should never rely solely upon any electronic device for essential communications (e.g. medical emergencies). Remember, in order to make or receive calls, the hands-free and the electronic device connected to the hands free must be switched on and in a service area with adequate cellular signal strength. Emergency calls may not be possible on all cellular phone networks or when certain network services and/or phone features are in use. Check with your local service provider.Battery informationPreferred battery types for your HBM-30 are Duracell AAA.A new battery or one that has not been used for a long period of time could have reduced capacity.Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures, never above +55°C (+131°F). For maximum battery capacity, use the battery in room temperature. If the battery is used in low temperatures, the battery capacity will be reduced.Recycling the battery in your HBM-30The battery in your HBM-30 must be disposed of properly and should never be placed in municipal waste. The Ericsson Service Partner removing the battery will dispose of it according to local regulations.Limited Warranty Subject to the conditions of this Limited Warranty, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (Sony Ericsson), S-221 88 Lund, Sweden warrants this product to be free from defects in design, material and workmanship at the time of its original purchase by a consumer, and for a subsequent period of one (1) year. If Sony Ericsson repairs or replaces the Product, the repaired or replaced Product shall be warranted for the remaining time of the original warranty period or for ninety (90) days from the date of repair, whichever is longer. Repair or replacement may involve the use of functionally equivalent reconditioned units. Replaced parts or components will become the property of Sony Ericsson.3. This warranty does not cover any failure of the Product due to normal wear and tear, or due to misuse, including but not limited to use in other than the normal and customary manner, in accordance with instructions for use and maintenance of the Product. Nor does this warranty cover any failure of the product due to accident, modification or adjustment, acts of God or damage resulting from liquid.4. This warranty does not cover Product failures due to improper repair installations, modifications or service performed by a non-Sony Ericsson authorized person.5. Tampering with any of the seals on the Product will void the warranty.6. THERE ARE NO EXPRESS WARRANTIES, WHETHER WRITTEN OR ORAL, OTHER THAN THIS PRINTED LIMITED WARRANTY. ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THIS LIMITED WARRANTY.
